  1. Just recently on our local village facebook page there has been umpteen people asking if there is anyone in the village who fixes punctures on bikes. It infuriates me that people cant do this a very simple task for themselves. Basic knowledge of any small repairs will soon be a long gone thing.
  2. How important is the paint on the inside of the crankcases, the area where the bearings are? Ive rebuilt saws that have had scratches and gouges in this area due to broken up bearings and such like but never one like ive see today that the paint looks like its had paint stripper on it. Ive removed it and its all back to bare metal. Would this be ok to rebuild like this or does it need some sort of paint on?
  3. Ive never done any milling in my life but i would say the oil and fuel needs to be filled from the same side.
  4. Its not just gasket it will need though, if i were doing it it would also get cylinder gasket and crank seals, and new crank bearings as there is no point putting the old ones back in since youve got it apart. It all adds up very quickly.
  5. Not restarting once warm is IMO an invite to remove the exhaust and have a look at the piston, its a classic sign of a lean seizure.
  6. To make good money selling parts you need to be getting the saws free and not sell on ebay. I was watching a MS361 for spares or repairs on the bay as ive got a new P+C on the shelf and deeply regret seling my 361 years ago. It went for £240 plus £20 postage. About 3 weeks later a business seller listed loads of 361 bits and a picture of the saw they came off, the saw was the one i was watching, so i added up all cost of the parts, deducted the cost of saw an all ebays fees and he was making about £40 if everything sold. Guessing there was 5 hours work stripping, cleaning and listing. Now if he had got the saw for free that would make it worthwhile.
  7. Its been running far too long with the brake on, looks like the brake band has snapped just in time before it melts the plastic around it completely and the saw becomes unusable. I i wouldnt be surprised if the roller bearing cage is also damaged along with needing new clutch springs. Is it your first chainsaw?
  8. 80-1 id be whipping the exhaust off for a peek
  9. +1 for the Lidl flora best sharpener
  10. IHSCT Incredibly Hard Self Cutting Thread
  11. Whats wrong with just measuring them?
  12. I wouldnt know about that, only reason i know about the different seals is because my local dealer asked me which ones i wanted when i was building my 170. As it was already completely stripped down i opted for those so i couldnt say what the difference is between the two types
  13. You can remove and install the seals without splitting the engine, there are 2 types of seals, one set you use when splitting the engine and the other type you use when not splitting the engine.
  14. ive seen a video on this site of someone modifying the factory fitted oil pump to pump more oil. For the life of me i cant find it but a google search shows forums with pictures of what to do.
  15. Have you changed the coil recently?
  16. More than likely the filter inside the tank has fallen off and its sucked shite into the pump like others have said.
  17. @Gav73 if the offer is still open, the ebay one turned up and its the choke version, the seller says the picture is of the non choke version but they are no longer available. So im after the carb if youre willing to let it go.
  18. After much trawling on ebay and enlarging every photo ive found one, Twice the price of the ones with the choke though. Thanks for the offer.
  19. The hole is deffinately supposed to be there, there is only 1 pipe leading from the primer into the carb, there is no return. From what i can make out it pushes air in to the fuel bowl and forces a little petrol out through the main jet to prime as it doesnt have a choke. The only way i can see for the primer to get full of fuel is the float isnt shutting the needle off fully and eventually overnight its filling up. Trying to find spare carb parts is proving tricky. The engine looks like a rv150 thats on some mowers but they have a different carb.
  20. Been gifted a used one that was leaking fuel from carb area, it appears to be leaking from the hole in the primer bubble. I dont think that this bubble should have fuel in it as it seems to be an air purge system as there is supposed to be a hole in the bubble. Am i correct in thinking this?
  21. Does it start and rev up and the blades still dont move? Usual problem of the blades not moving is the pin on the main drive gear has snapped.
  22. My pal did run his ebay account as a business account even though he wasnt, ebay forced him to do so because he was selling so much of his deceased fathers stuff he opened a shop on there so it was easier to list, sort and keep an eye on. He put a good clean 084 on there and it sold for £600 plus £25 postage, 2 weeks later the buyer got in tough wanting to return it saying its bigger than he thought and was worried about using it (changed his mind) as a business and distance selling regulations he had to accept the return by law. The saw arrived back and it had done 2 weeks solid sawing, the guy who bought it had a free saw for 2 weeks and obviously got all his big logs cut up.
  23. Hes pulling your leg, let ebay decide the outcome. Big mistake sending him pictures of it apart though. When ebay ask for evidence or somewhere you can write about the case, state that parts needed to be removed to service like it was stated in the sellers description of needing a service and its then it exposed the saw as fit for the scrap.
  24. I saw that one and was instantly drawn to the clamp on the inlet manifold which doesn't look like its fitted correctly
