  1. Happens all the time if you dont keep up on checking the valve clearences every 20 hours use or so. It will be pretty much a write off, valve guide will be knackered, valve seat will be dented so a new valve wont seal and as these are parts of the cylinder it makes a uneconomical repair, piston will probable have half the valve stuck in it, con rod will possibly be slightly bent. 38mm dia piston is a km90, 40mm is a km100 and 43mm diameter is km130.
  2. ebay purchase? I'll be 99 percent sure the piston is scored. As above take exhaust off and check the state of the piston before spending any money on anything else.
  3. The way it used to work was to direct you to the official GOV.UK site and then your reference number wouldnt be accepted so you ring the number and this is the scammers, they then take the reference number and start calling you by your name and give you your address because they have your details registered under that reference number, they then try and get you to make the outstanding payment by debit card over the phone. Then once theyve got the payment and youve hung up they go to town and take what ever else is in your account.
  4. Ive a 4mm three armed mulcher on a Stihl FS400, it batters most things put in front of it but i wouldnt attempt to knock down anything like 1 inch Blackthorn with it. I dont use the mounting cup as i like to skim the blade across the ground so everything is cut at ground level. It does wear the cutter down but a quick sharpen with the angle grinder every half hour keeps it sharp.

no, i mean the flywheel side.

MS260 with a good few years behind it, id be checking the flywheel side crank seal.
  7. The ergo spring is as weak as piss and will fail when you need the blower the most, from what i was told that too much fuel mixture was entering the cylinder and creating too much compression (kind of hydro lock) if you missed the pop on choke or gave it too many pulls causing the ergo spring to fail. go on ebay and search for bg86 spring and see how many have been sold, it tells you all you need to know how weak they are.
  8. The 86's are ok if you pull out the ergo easy start system or what ever they are calling it now and replace it with the conventional starter. If youre buying from a half decent dealer they will do it for you foc.
  9. for how long whilst it was running? the clutch will get hot if it was running a while with the brake engaged and any crud in there will soon start to smoke.
  10. Why run it at 33/1 mix? are you using cheap oil? Id fix it with a aftermarket piston if the cylinder can be saved.
  11. should be nice and smooth, and not have what looks like rough melted vertical lines in it
  12. Youve had an air leak then, i would take the exhaust off and have a look at the condition of the piston through the exhaust port.
  13. Ive been told that 12 hp at the pto is not enough run a flail
  14. Does anyone use or have any feedback on the towed flail mowers? Ive considered getting one to tow behind the b7100 as i would like to cut the grass less frequent and the topper struggles when its got too long.
  15. Spark on these saws is very hard to see, they need to be pulled over fast in a darkened room.
  16. Always use parcelforce, i dont know whats gone on there recently but their prices have dramatically reduced, i was sending saws on 48 for 16 quid, same size and weight is now 9 quid.
  17. Local agricultural dealers charge £5 a chain if its off the saw, £7.50 if you turn up with it still on the saw and do them whilst you wait. Mostly farmers chains who only take them in when there going for something else. Garden machinery centre up the road charge £8 up to 18 inches and you get then back when they are done, they will not do a one off whilst you wait, they wait till they have a few and do them all at once, sometimes takes a week to get them back. I believe this is a ploy to sell more chains.
  18. how often do you re set the valve clearences and do you leave it stored upright?
  19. Put a pic or two up of the parts and saw where it should be adjusted, im pretty sure i recall a thread about the castings in them not been cleaned up properly (had the flashing removed) and the hole to the adjusting screw just needed to be broken through
  20. Everyone pretty much uses L and S Engineers for online parts supply but parts from all places are taking a while to arrive, i ordered some fuel pipes for a dolmar from the dealer up the road and they took 6 weeks to arrive, I usually get them with in 5 days of ordering.
  21. it will be the white U shaped hook that the control shaft sits in, it will be either well worn or snapped off. if its worn there is a fix with a 1.5mm drill hole and a bit of wire, if its snapped the fix is the same but a lot more fiddley
  22. Is it left for long periods with fuel in? If so its more than likely needs the carb cleaning.
  23. If you ever knacker the first couple of threads on a plug hole these are one of the best tools to have for a quick fix 14mm Reverse Action Spark Plug Thread Chaser - Repair Damaged Spark Plug Threads | eBay ive repaired a few where a cack handed owner has realised they are going in cross threaded and then stopped after a few turns.
