  1. Yup, thats no good. piston is scrap and cylinder will be worse on exhaust side than it is on inlet side, it may clean up with a bit of work but it may not. I assume you bought it off ebay. If you send it back they may be a honest seller with no knowledge of the lean seizure and refund you. If they advertised it as spares or repairs hoping this was their get out of jail card because they knew of the lean seizure and you tell them that the piston is scored they will know youve had it apart and will inform ebay of this and then they dont have to give you your money back if it goes to ebay to settle the dispute.
  2. on re assembly the oiler spring sits in the cut out in the clutch drum, the line on the top of the drum aids re- alignment
  3. is chain moving when pulled? ive seen one that was left ticking over with brake on for half an hour and everything around the clutch melted and stuck together.
  4. Yes, prize out the back plug with flat screwdriver and replace with the chain catcher, the other part or the catcher fits into the smaller hole to the left. You may need to prize off the white bumper strip aswell to get the plug out.
  5. You dont need a new side cover just for the chain catcher, there is a chain catcher available that fits in to the bottom av buffer. prt number 1123 656 7700
  6. Is the other ring the same?
  7. The only after market carb kit I bought was for a HS45 and the gasket was made out what I assume was the cardboard from a Chinese cornflake box. I fitted it, ran the machine and realised I'd left out the gauze filter so took it off and the gasket turned into a black mush. Never have bought a Chinese part for any of my machines since.
  8. Most likely not fake, you buy a big reel of chain and the boxes supplied with the reel are blank as you can make lots of different sized chains from the same reel. Then once they make your chain they put it in one of the blank boxes and write on it what size it is. Your local farm shop won't be making the chains from a reel they will be coming in from Stihl pre made and boxed.
  9. Does it just fire on easy start or does it continue running? I would say 125 psi is on the low side and would cause starting and running problems.
  10. If you're ordering any new parts I would also get a plug for that bottom AV mount as it's missing.
  11. If you look at the bottom of the pic, the brass colour is the worn away pump, below it is the black o ring on the oil connector, there is a small gap between the connector and pump. That's where its leaking from. As the main case is worn through a new pump and connector will not fix the leak.
  12. Has the clutch got a washer behind it? If not it will just cut through the epoxy in seconds like it has the plastic where the pump fits.
  13. He's got it sorted, thanked everyone on other site. It was needle valve. I await my personal thanks for hitting the problem in the first reply.?
  14. Three cleaned and re kitted carbs all doing the same thing points at wrong or faulty carb kits. How have you set the metering arm? I'm guessing it's fully depressed when you've assembled the carbs.
  15. It must be the needle in the carb letting fuel through, are they the correct carb kits?
  16. 0.1mm is a lot on close tolerance parts like that. In a past life we used to bruise shafts with a centre punch dot at 3 6 9 and 12 o clock then press into the bearing.
  17. They are as rare as hen's teeth, no longer available from Stihl along with many other parts for this saw. They do pop up on eBay now and then but usually the people selling them know how rare they are and command a good price. For some reason the Chinese have never produced this exhaust. Youre best off buying a full spares or repairs machine off eBay, keeping the bits you want and re selling the rest.
  18. L and S engineers.
  19. Coil is kaput or compression is poor and when you've been looking at the coil the engine has cooled enough to be able to start again.
  20. Ideally needs to be tested again once the inlet manifold is in place. Few times I've seen leaks on the inlet to cylinder.
  21. The way that series of saws is made it's easier to remove the exhaust than it is the spark plug.
  22. I would always remove exhaust and examine the condition if the piston, it's the easiest thing to do first and saves loads of time and head scratching if a seizure is the cause.
  23. "Came as a job lot and I'm selling off" and "was working fine when last used now won't start" is eBay code for its knackered and we know it is but don't want to put in items description what's really wrong with it. Go through the saw with a fine tooth comb, check and double check everything. As above, if damage on second cylinder matches the piston, someone has already been inside the saw and would appear to have given up on it.
  24. Without limit cap on h screw should be 1 and a half turns out. 3/4 is with cap on.
