  1. If it is only 1.6kw then it sure cuts above its size, near the end of the video he cross cuts with it, and it held up very well.
  2. Wondering if anyone knows what this saw is, its a Stiga SP386, but for its advertised cc 's it seems to cut like a bigger saw. The Muffler looks to have the same mounting pattern as a Makita EA4300 / Dolmar 421 but not exact same muffler. Does anyone know if this is a Makita or Dolmar in disguise, is it a split case or plastic clam. Here is it being repaired then used,

Echo CS-4310SX 16 OAKLEYSGARDENMACHINERY.CO.UK The ECHO CS-4310SX is a professional grade, mid sized chain saw suitable for a wide range of applications, including felling... Very pricy for what it is.
  4. That is not good, slow it down, turn out the high needle, see how it runs, if it is lively enough now on the low end with good throttle response then you can probably leave the low screw alone, but don't run it at the current speed, and make SURE the saw is warm before adjusting it, other ways the tune will change when it does warm up.
  5. A few second hand ones here and they are looking 160.00 , not worth it when I got a new one for not a lot more, I think my one has no cat, and I could see no restrictors on the carb, so although it was new it must have been made for a zone where eco warriors have not got their way.
  6. Yes, they went to the dark side too, off to china to join the rest, One dealer here told me their small saws were being made there, he gave up selling them and took on Echo products, of course this I found out after I bought my china doll.
  7. Lots of people around here have them for farm work, and they seem to keep on going, they were quite a bit cheaper than the big two, but they are not so now, I seen them advertised for crazy money new in Italy, 620 euro in one place, 520 here, no way are they worth that, too close to Stihl territory for a 50cc saw. I just want it to wind people up, wondering how it runs so strong, am sure a few heads will turn.
  8. Wes did a good job on it, it was the first one he did, so he had to figure it all out himself. That is the stock chain too, they always bind up in a transverse cut until they get the first sharpening, after that they are completely transformed.
  9. I bought it online, thinking it was made in Italy, its made in china and assembled in Italy, I would class it as a china saw, not like the Efco of old, or any of its off spring. I would not call it a bad saw, its as good as any stihl made in china, not as good as the Makita I replaced with it, which was also made in china. I edited my initial post to reflect what you said, it is indeed not a non brand saw, but a saw not many have ported, at least none that I have seen, fair play to the man who took it on. I am happy with it for its intended purpose.
  10. I found a brave man willing to take on this saw, very happy with the results.
  11. Could you explain what the difference is between a choke flap for a purge bulb setup and a non purge setup. I don't like purge bulbs as I see just another point of failure, I do however like not having to destroy a starter and a shoulder pulling to get fuel to the carb.

    Jonsered ID Help.

Does anyone else see what looks like writing beside the oil cap, on the metal case, stamped on there.
  13. I keep some for the Zombie apocalypse, better safe that sorry, Thank you Aspen, Thank you Stihl, and no thanks to you china for the zombie virus. Now where did I put my chainsaw holster.
  14. I heard many conflicting views on Ultra, some say it is listed as FD on the bottle and FB in their catalog. Others say its a different mix depending on where in the world you are. I certainly would not be afraid to use FB certified oil.
  15. I cant see why Ultra wouldn't work fine, it is FD rated so should burn clean, and it full synthetic so should protect well.
  16. I wonder if there is bean oil in, back to the old Castor.

@spudulike are you innterested, or know of anyone who wants to dabble with an off brand saw.
  20. Maybe because the Stihl Ultra is bio degradable, so when opened it begins the process, albeit a a slower rate, two years.
  21. I think this is the coil for the Echo 4910, others have ported both saws and changed the coils over and got identical times when cutting, the coil used made no difference.

Hi all, I have a saw I can not sell, no one wants it, so am going to port it, are you sitting down, its an Efco MT5200, its new, it has a split crank case, stuffed into a plastick box. I don't expect anything crazy, a woods type port so I can use it for firewood duties, torque more than speed, I could delete the base gasket, shave 10 thou off the flywheel key, but I have no intention of investing in fordom or the likes to try my hand, cant even gut the muffler as I had to sell the big tools, couldn't store them so no mig. If anyone is interested in this maybe send me a PM. Thank you kindly for looking in,

    which pole saw

    Or hire one out.
  24. A lot or people sheared the key by slamming on the brake too, I would be using a torque wrench to the manufacturers spec.
