  1. Damm not my area ! I’v got friends in Somerset with a good network of contacts ! Regarding citizens advice, worth a try, google Saint Johns Trust they maybe able to give you the deposit for a flat ! smart move letting us know your situation, others have been helped here and gone from strength to strength ! most importantly keep in regular touch ! This is a big big network !
  2. What area are you in ? If your in my area I will ask around. I really hope something turns up for you. Have you got your name down on a council/housing association list. Keep strong, you clearly have the right attitude.?
  3. Thanks i’d love to see a photo it would make an ole man happy !
  4. It’s also important to close the canopy as soon as possible! Major ground vegetation growth coused by to much light can be a serious problem not least for access, brambles, hawthorn, blackthorn, sallow ect. When you see the weaker planted trees beginning to die, and the lower branches on the dominate and sub-dominate trees dieback from lack of light, that is the time to think of first thinning’s.
  5. Stubby what are you listening too? put a good one up? Dosnt matter what type, I love good music ? And you can tell a lot about a guy by his music ! And you’v got taste. Do you play guitar?
  6. I am no expert in this topic, but my heart is one hundred percent with you ! just a few random thoughts, am out of touch but years ago, great crested newts could be a factor in planning decisions! your near a canal ? It all helps. Another subject I know little of! —- internet ‘crowd funding’ ! This situation could get a lot of support, and funding ! A large ‘fighting fund would help immensely. Psychologically it would give you power and push back. Also perhaps a compromise could be found ? If they moved the new houses way back from the road, planted a wide shelter belt along the road with a path for dog walkers it would reduce the ‘impact’ on the woodland. Visually, environmentally (predatory cats/dogs ect) and would enhance the area. not least for the new houses. A good stout fence in there shelterbelt between path and road? Plus a bund on the new house side.
  7. Juniper chinnensis aurea !!! https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=juniper+chinensis+aurea&prmd=isnv&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiD2s7OhqbgAhUgXhUIHbz7BScQ_AUoAXoECAwQAQ&biw=320&bih=438#imgrc=hrlyHKYyNIhnHM:
  8. Yep that’s his son brilliant multi musician in his own right! Worth googling buena vista social club on you tube ! Farther and son film lovely music. ?
  9. On the Mendips here we’v got a foot deep ! Plus some drifting. put another log on the ? fire. This weathers a bugger on ceder trees. the weight of snow on large branches. can do a lot of damage.
  10. Just reporting back from Tesco! I’v been shopping there 4 times today and it’s been getting more busy each time. Disgraceful! No sereously. I hered they were jammed packed car park full to over flowing ! Brexit, snow warning ? Who knows ? I grow my own food an trade stuff meat comes off the back of a lorry. Real coffee ect got a years supply. I’m ready!
  11. We found it was a good ideal to envolve the police on anything lasting an hour or more. they never charged us ! It lent the job an air of aurthority . Basicly people would do what they were told ! And insisdently it would free up our team to do the ness, with police shortages i’m not sure it’s an option these day’s ! But they always enjoyed the excitement. A good time was had by all.
  12. If i’m the guy stopping the traffic. It makes my day to march into the road with an air of authority and stop a police car. I give them my sweetest smile, when the roads clear waved on and thank them warmly. They kind of know it’s payback time.
  13. When on Bristol parks dept. the trees in streets team had a near miss. dispite all the ness cordonning off, the climber up a Lime tree having nearly cut through a med sized limb to free fall, suddenly noticed a pedestrian walking right into the target area ! All he could do is grab the limb at the last moment delaying its fall by a secound or 2 ! saved the person being hit, but ripped several arm and stomach muscles. half asleep grounde ? Inadequate barrier don’t know was’nt there! But we can all learn from others mistakes ! my pet hate is moter cyclists ther like bleeden lemmings ! Think they can out race a falling tree ! My advice is make it physically impossible to chance it ! Then they have to stop !
  14. My first choice was going to be prunus, growing as suckers from a mature tree. We see them a lot! Is there a plum tree in the garden ! my secound guess! Tamarisk. it’s to hard to really see the scale of the tree. But the bark would be similar. Leaf shape would help.
  15. Hornets nest in a cavity is the worse thing ! i’d climbed Up a big parkland oak. And 5 mins into chainsawing deadwood. I saw a swarm of them 15’ below. The vibration of the saw had really annoyed them ! i’m thinking how the hell am I going to get down past them without being stung to hell. i had heard 4 hornet stings and your dead! not sure if it’s true, but did’nt want to find out. I scrambled out to the end of a big limb on far side, came down real fast, an ran like hell. i thought id’d put this up keep your eye’s open you just never know !!
  16. Yep i’m stockpiling big time, why wouldn’t I ? were all going to hell in a hand cart ! Those supermarket boss’s new what they were doing, signing that letter, any day now food prices will go through the roof. Empty selves, angry mobs, army called in. Marshall law declared. Civil war ! And from there on I reckon things will go down hill.
  17. And this one is pretty good too ! Check him out.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-HdorsEP3A&app=desktop
  18. Here’s a cool sound ! Check out all the rest of this guys stuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNmi-e6q6ZQ
  19. Assuming the photo was taken from the house, the view from your window will be similar ! Personaly I’d rather look out my window at a hundred year old oak tree, than look out at a ‘stump’ and a bleak treeless view of hard de-natured distopia! Was the tree there when you moved in! get it pruned occasionally ! Max and min hight, it will never cause a problem in your lifetime. Enjoy long summer evenings sipping wine in good company soft music and much laughter! Dont huddle around in what would look like a prison yard with out that tree. and remember most people giving advice have there own personal agenda ! Good luck
  20. Haveing ‘slept on this one’ i reckon you’v already made three good decisions! you decided to get unbiased advice from arbalk. You havent acted in hast to regret at leasure. And you put your cards on the table and been honest about your motives. I like your style! —- you’v made the right decision not rushing this, take a year or two, there seem to be 3 parts to this problem. 1. The structural aspect. 2 your personal preference and 3,the legal and environmental impact.
  21. Clearly this tree and your house have got on fine for a long time with no problem ! From the little we can see, it looks to have been well maintained! It also looks ‘of value ‘ in that area as there are few trees to be seen in photo. How long have you lived there? And why do you want to remove it ? conclusion—- strengthen foundations and regular maintence of tree !
  22. Wow you must be really proud of that ! You mate can walk with ya head held high. can I ask your age ? I would like to think, that you will see that grow to maturity! No matter if not your kids and grand kids will. How many do you think you personaly planted ?
