  1. Moving on kevs shabby little list of acusations out of pure guess work against a total stranger ! I love this one it’s a real do’sy ! in this one single comment, stacked high as we all have now seen with BS ! he proceeded to acuse me of being young ! Haa ha ha ! of just maybe entering a career in tree work hahahaaa ! If only! To be fare i’m gunna jus leave that one hanging ther ! that is the best joke i’v heared in my entire life !(65) kev ya must be starting to feel a bit of a fool ? Do you want to come back and apologise?
  2. Dam i’m enjoying this ! So kev let’s ‘deal’ with my grammar and spelling! when I came on this site, a week ago I promised to be honest with no ‘bull’ i’m days ahead of you! before enyone asked! I apologised for my spelling (that’s me being humble and honest) ahead of your slur. I made a Joke of it! And said hell if I could spell i’d of ended up behind a desk! Thank god that did’nt happen! look at the second vid ! That’s my working type of environment! Eat your hart out. so it’s not enough that i’v done all that work you think I should brush my academic ability? go on then i’l give you a chance ! Do you want to come back and apologise? Dont ever ever attempt to distory a respectable mans reputation. I’m not even counting the points! What do you think ya doing? shame on you!!!
  3. Kev’s third point. He’s still clearly not paying attention ! The mans a safety hazard ! The vidio was not me up the tree not my team, I was defending a climber I have great respect for ! And who is not in a position to defend him self here ! I reckon that’s worth 2 points against your reputation, 4 nil ! Your looking pretty shabby ! But hell the Audience seems entertained, wanna slink away behind the wood pile ?
  4. Ok kev you think you can have sarcasm at the expense of a mans 50 year reputation ! Shame on you! More fool you! Your reputation is going down the pan! Not mine! 3 nil to me.
  5. Ok so well we all wait for kev to get back to us ! Explaining his hundred million trees! Bs lets see what’s next there. next—- lamentable ecologically clearly your not paying attention (dangerous in our game!) dead Elm trees, forest thinings, dangerous amenitiey trees, and then let’s consider the amount we planted! I think I win that one ! Two nil
  6. Ha ha sweet, Kevin ! wow there’s a lot there! It’s easy to make an accusation and longer and harder to to defend ! Hell i’m jus sat here answering questions ! Phew where to start ! Firstly I did’nt know you could stack bs that high! Let’s do this step by step ! where the hell did you get the figure— ‘A hundred million’ from ? I think your credabilty fell at the first fence son.
  7. ThanksD your a goodun yes I love it all here. I could keep going! Truth be told ! There’s more than one recipe to make a cake . And your welcome is warmly appreciated debates as this are very important ! And positive ! We can all learn ! And big respect to the giant climbers I will defend them, as I am one! And survived ! the best safety equipment is in side our head not out side!
  8. ThanksD ! Ha ! Good man ! You spotted my achelles heel ! i’l concede on that one point ! For all you students with only 25 years experience yes to do that is high risk ! in my defence I’m posting on an iPhone small screen ! I looked ! I could’nt call it, dark shade in that area. plus camera angle could be deseptive unlike some comments ! I went for innocent until proven guilty, yes im old school !we all here chose a dangerous profession !!! Hell listening to some here! We might as well be hair dressers! Snigger, hell go on i’ll say it ! I love the danger ! Am addicted to it! Grow some nuts!
  9. Regarding the rigging system! As already stated the sole purpose of that rope was to prevent the possibility of the branch bounceing and catapulting (heavy end first) into the priceless gdn ornaments. If we’re going to minutely disect this short clip so be it ( but I think the less of you for it) let me draw your attention to the expertise of what that man did. Take a look ! he gaged the weight distribution ‘exactly’ 50/50 load on the rope and weight on the ground ! Not only in full control but reducing chance of shrapnel flying ! I suspect what this is ‘really about’ is a few here are testing the new boy out !
  10. Joe Newton Thanks for your contribution and view, some of which is incorrect. Firstly I have been very keen to engage with all the criticism — constutive, ill informed, and some abusive ! I note your silence on that and the bad example you set. it’s easy to criticise someone brave enough to take on the most dangerous and difficult tree works that are out there! but let’s be honest for every 200 people call them selves ‘tree surgeons ‘ only one will take on those biggest and dangerous trees! And even less will do that on a daily basis . As I have only been on this fantastic site one week, and have yet to work out who is who ? could you post a similar vid of your work. not a text book classic that would be dis honest. But a run of the mill, large tree in the difficult site! how little praise of the good points! None on the stunning gardens and setting glass half full or half empty ?
  11. Thank you five shires ! At one stage. I mentioned—- ‘’ you may be unaware of hidden facts’’ the expert commentators here, did’nt consider the simple fact that—- as one of the finest gardens in England ! The owner’s would not be hiring any cowboys to do this work! i will not name the firm with out permmision first ! But there from Wiltshire, and they are as good as eny body on this site! That’s a fact. Before this job they did a ‘ fantastic job’ 10 times harder and more spectacular. Both were done one hundred percent quality!
  12. Hi guys, my turn to ask for advice! How come one of my comments keeps reaccuring ? Is it some thinking i’m doing wrong ? Help ! Dam computers never did like um ! But happy new year all !
  13. Re- wind and wind break— if the planting site is in a very exposed situation , there’s a strong chance of leaf scorch particularly in the first season as bound to be a bit of root damage/ stress from nusery transport and planting. for a perminat wind break to your site — google/YouTube — shelter belt planting (more detailed) for temp —grow tubes are good or windbreak netting (google) bit scientific but ‘mycorrhiza’ for planting new trees! If you know it great if not google ! lastly bare in mind the best walnuts come from the med more sun makes for an - oily nut, our lack of sun makes for higher water content but, good results with cultivars help. on that note I recommend smallholder magazines/sites! good luck and happy new year !!!
  14. Those are fare questions! the amount we felled—- I started felling due to Elm disease killing millions of trees in the West Country, went on clearing rail way trees, hospital grounds ect ect parks department private stuff I could go on! I don’t have a team now you lose the appetite for red tape and stuff! Hey we’re on the same side! I love what you guys do! Us old uns deserve a bit of respect to ya’know.
  15. Skyhuck Age 65 an a half haha ! yep fell the stem if you know what ya doing! That wasn’t me but my teams have dropped a couple of hundred thousand (no bull) I’m thinking of taking it up for a living !! cheer’s
  16. Trigger ok back to growing nut’s if they can put a home grown melon on the table at Xmas we can grow nuts in Scotland — if it’s windy plant a wind break. Get first class stock (we get what we pay for) get them local grown ! V important that ! Imported plants will not of evolved for your climate, good stuff in ya planting hole, so they come up fast and strong, no waterlogging. Make real real sure they don’t dry out esp first year. Grow single stemmed for squirrel protection, rabbit and deer proof. Hope that helps ! Send pics as ya go.
  17. Skyhuck Age 65 an a half haha ! yep fell the stem if you know what ya doing! That wasn’t me but my teams have dropped a couple of hundred thousand (no bull) I’m thinking of taking it up for a living !! cheer’s
  18. To all of the above comments ! You may be unaware of hidden facts! No big load on rope, it was used to prevent bounce ect regarding ‘A bit of pottery an some stone things’ break’m and you’d spend the rest of your life paying for um!!
  19. Trigger thanks! Take a while to google Iford Manor and take a look at images! It will blow your mind ! I’ll be mentioning the above. As I did a hell of lot there,I need to get photos scanned onto computer before I can show the orchards. Relivent point to this thread— get good at pruning fruit—- do fruit in gdns like this, to a fast high standard ! They will welcome you with open arms— then amenity trees—- forestry—- good working environment ! so where were we! Making one apple tree pay? How do we define pay. Long term v short term benifit!
  20. Peasgood thanks for that info some of that is correct some not. My favourites are garden/hygiene to break the breeding cycle, encouraging garden birds, the amount of pests a pair of feeding parent birds can deal with is huge! plus keeping your tree strong and healthy by pruning ! Like us humans it’s when we’re weak we fall prey to illness. A moribund tree will fall prey to pests and diseases! regarding bees v nicatenoids don’t forget bees will travel miles to good source crops and down wind of arable crops will be contaminated ! bees to! restrictions have been put in place ! But it’s a proven fact bee colony calapse is a sereous issue! Most of our fruit and veg are dependent on bees pollination! wild or honey ? bee !!
  21. Some espalier I restored a few years ago lots of walled garden trees. Plus 2 very old historical orchards. Years of neglect trees lost every storm. About 200 trees done over 3 years. Job done everyone happy.
  22. Openspaceman & Nepia it’s great that you take time to test me out ! an ole git ! good points there. Tree work is an expanding industry, getting more suffistacted as years go by. When i’m / we’re ‘on the road ‘ we see a huge amount of work that could/should be done! the potential is massive. Why am I so keen on fruit/orchards? —— you mention the work involved in one neglected Apple ! lets put that in proportion. i do fruit pruning workshops (couple a year) one venue a Somerset farm with cider orchards ! About 400 trees neglected, massive, some fall down each year ! look at the challenge, look at the cost effectiveness compared to your one tree ! And yet it can be made to be cost effective for all concerned! That’s the challenge for me here. I need to be out and about now! But i’m in no rush here. for me it’s a marathon not a sprint !
  23. That’s cool but we can always learn more, the day I stop learning is the day i’ll give up trees and take up something else! Never going to happen. just a small point, if you can prune fruit trees well how come the branch snapped the following year from overloaded fruit ! point taken on no fruit, my mistake ! Been a long day. And enjoyable, hope for you too.
