I could tell from the leaves it was a whitebeam but not the swedish part. So that will be Sorbus x intermedia.

Well if it was the day for the beach it would have been nice at 30 with a breeze. ? Was felling some rather overgrown holly "bushes" in the shade so wasn't too bad, though perspiration levels were rather high.

Lots of butterflies out at the moment, not seen so many in a while. Red Admirals, Meadow Browns, small Whites, saw one the other days on the roses but couldn't identify it. Was impressively large and colourful with white background.

Bit of the old SBD with a small beech branch today. However there were also some signs of major old squirrel damage on the same branch. Wretched blighters. Was about 24c this afternoon and supposed to go upto 30c tomorrow. Potentially its going to be cold bath weather.

Was a bit breezy last night, the ash trees are showing signs of losing quite a bit of foliage. Hot again today though. ?

Thanks David, And within the London city itself I am assuming they have to have some pretty major buffers in place with the old plane trees that are along the streets and roads. This must be a major thing to tackle. Don't envy those that have to look after those trees. Does it affect all of the Platanus species? -

Have seen it happen with atlas cedar ends of long branches break off middle of summer.

Indeed. I tried the woodchip and biochar. There might be a difference in this year's foliage, but too early to tell.

A shrub of some sort, looks like either of the two earlier responses.

In addition to the sponge heartwood, when felling, it became obvious that there were a number of small brackets about 8-10cm on some of the branches. Here are some shots. Potentially fairly regular bracket though probably old as they have desiccated.
