Thanks rough hewn, The bar i have on it reads 3005 000 6309 but cant make anything else out on it [emoji30] visually it looks thin, 3/8 1.1 or 1.3mm but cant be sure? The maintenance / owners manual states 14” 3/8 but tells ya no more. As its not my saw i darent risk taking a punt on it being 1.1 or 1.3mm for obvious reasons. My gut feeling is 1.3mm but could do with being sure [emoji37][emoji106]

You running an additional adaptor inline to your gunson gauge / line? That can cause a questionable reading, often lower that what is realistic. Spuds the man tho [emoji106]

Hi guys, can anyone help please, had a lad drop a 009 off with me that was bogging down under revs. Fit new carb kit and saw now runs sweet. Hes requested i source and fit a new chain, only thing is i cant get any info on what chain it should run? The bar is in very good condition with visible part number stamped 3005 000 6309. Its a 14” bar, from what info i can get from the maintenance manual, and it states its 3/8 pitch, but cant get any more info than that? Can anyone help with a specific part number for the chain please, he wants it to be a genuine stihl chain too. There are no markings on the original chain at all so i cant even decide from that ?!! It has been filed to the max so is desperate to be replaced. I’m thinking it should be part number 3617 000 0050, can anyone concur? Thanks guys.

Did ponder on some pants with sawn in braces, gets frustrating keep pulling ya pants up and re fettling yaself, and you look odd to passers by [emoji6]? some husky pants on bob richardson tools & fastners website at £65 that looked ok for the money, but then i get baffled with class ‘a’ ‘b’ ‘c’ etc. I just take it that the more expensive ones will be better ??

Anyone rate the lower priced chainsaw trousers £60 - £100 price range, promised to buy myself some for obvious reasons. You never know what could happen when using your tools, i’m not a pro like most of you guys so dont want to invest hundreds in to clothing but do appreciate the dangers so want to buy something. Any advice is much appreciated [emoji106]

Well i’m no pro, its all purely for myself what i do, not cos i’m selfish or owt. I’m a hgv mechanic through the day, house bashing and wood cutting on an evening and weekends. Been using my chainsaws to deal with the bulk, a bomb for odd knotty bits with the help of a wedge (rough i know [emoji51]) and electric / hydraulic splitter for some, rest of it with an old rusty axe my dad gave me. Thats hard work tho cos it has a short handle like you say and rattles me a bit every now and then. Be happy spending £40 - £60 on something, possibly a tadge more if ya can recommend owt? I’m 5’10” 12.5 stone quite broad and can, to be honest in my own opinion, swing a sledge / mell fairly well, (was brought up on a farm and made to knock posts in from an early age whilst balancing off old milk crates [emoji15]?) any ideas would be great. Cheers

@neiln, would you stick with the traditional wood shaft, or do you rate the fibre reinforced shafts? I’m thinking more for vibration / shock reasons, only because i have an odd bad day here and there with my fingers and hands due to 20+ yrs of spannering and working in all environments.

Single glazed on mine. Don’t think I’ve ever seen a double glazed door now you’ve come to mention it [emoji848] will keep my eyes peeled tho for future, not something i’d really take in to consideration either till you’ve said it. Whats the difference without stating the obvious, if there is any? Are they Literally just thicker? Just thinking from an intense heat point of view, surely it couldn’t withstand the heat if it was like a traditional double glazed unit? The inner air/gas of the unit combined with heat would cause it to break surely? [emoji848][emoji848][emoji848] -

Get calls every now and then off local farmers and friends with a tree down. Just go and muller it, give them what they want (if they want any of it) take the rest for myself and split it / store it at home. Bag all my sawdust and give it back to local farmers as bedding. Enjoy using my stihl toys and axe, keeps me fit (ish) and most importantly...... stops the misses moaning in winter that shes cold! [emoji108] -
I’m just a little old fashioned i suppose stubby, i like a bit of curvature here and there [emoji6] not all straight lines and all that. I do prefer a single door too.
