  1. Hi Alex, yeah I've worked for someone from Tavistock, Horrabridge and just before Christmas I was working on the plym valley cycle path. I've also done a couple of my own jobs and have just got back from Germany
  2. As the title suggests, I'm looking for work in and around the Plymouth area. I have my own kit, transport and PL insurance. I've been qualified since September so not the fastest but always work hard
  3. Currently in Germany working
  4. Hi what pay are you offering climbers?
  5. There isn't any companies taking on full time employees here either. Forced my hand to subbie/free lance
  6. I've just bought a set of led headlights with drls for £189. Having them fitted tomorrow (wiring issues with my standard lights) will post some photos when they are done
  7. Hi Jon, just thought I'd say best of luck for the 2018 season. I'm a huge biking fan and love everything about them racing! I will try to keep an eye out for you and wiĺl keep my fingers crossed for a successful season. I'm soo jealous!! I sold my road going gixxer thou L0 earlier this year to fund a move into this line of work
  8. Had a quick check, the bases seem fine. Some dodgy old pruning wounds though
  9. So a client today asked me to prune her Apple trees, whilst I was doing this task I noticed a couple of trees have brown marks where I've pruned. There was another badly split and one with fungi growth. Any help would be great
  10. I think I've spent close to £700 setting up for srt. That's a new rope, RW, ZZ, Haas Velox clip n go and arbpro clip n step boots. Not used it yet as I got my last bits yesterday. From what I've seen/heard, should be worth the money! What's an apta?
  11. I bought a 550 at the beginning of the year, so far very happy with it. 'Touch wood'
  12. Looking for work in the Devon/Cornwall area. Preferably in the Plymouth area. Have all my own kit and transport. Hard working and reliable
  13. I'm working but I would like something with a better employment future. I'm not knocking the guy I work for but he's just starting up his business so at the moment it's not as settled. With a family, kids and a mortgage it's not easy to up sticks.
  14. I'm looking for more regular work but there doesn't seem to be much around where I live. Any of the jobs I've seen on here are further afield. It seems that sods law has kept the employers in separate areas to us guys that are keen
  15. You'd be lucky to pick one up for less than £12. Most of mine range between £25-35 each. There are some fish out there for around £500
  16. We don't suffer too much with evaporation. By the time our levels have dropped to anywhere near to needing topping up we are usually ready to do a water change. I know what you mean though, some people I've heard of have to do it regularly. I agree, the fish are amazing! Our lionfish has the best personality. I've managed to get him hand feeding [emoji16]. If anyone is considering a marine setup I'm happy to offer advice and where I can assist
  17. Thank you guys. In total everything has cost us around £3k. The live rock is one of the single biggest costs (other then the tank) Now it is established it doesn't take up much time. A 10% water change around every 14 days, feed the fish and corals every other day. The corals are pretty easy to look after/grow with the right lighting
  18. Here's my 400ltr marine tank setup
  19. I can second that. I've done my 1st years training with Lynher. They deal a lot with service leavers and ELCAS
  20. So I purchased my first ever landy yesterday. I've wanted one for years when so far not disappointed one bit [emoji2]
  21. I had a similar problem. I paid for all my own tickets and bought all my own kit. I qualified in August and my previous employer was reluctant to get me climbing. If you are confident in your own ability, do what I did and go subbieing. I'm always climbing now and on a good wage. The main thing I found is always be safe. Nobody can rush you and cause you to be in an unsafe predicament
  22. This would have to be my dream job! Such lovely horses
  23. So, I finished my climbing qualifications in August. My 1st aerial cutting exam I failed, the climb started with a 15mtr hip thrusting with nothing but a prussik. I was knackered!! (Due to being unfit) Anyway since then I have been climbing with a zigzag and when required, a hand and foot ascender. I've recently purchased an ART snake anchor, rope wrench setup and about to purchase a Haas Velox. Anyway as the title states, when do you experienced guys advice moving over to SRT? I was advised by a previous employer just to concentrate on prussiking. My argument is I'm 35, just starting out in this business, and would like to get up into the tree as fast and as easily as possible so I can get on with the job I'm being paid for
  24. The guy who I worked with was like marmite, either you got on with him or you didn't. I knew him from rugby so I got on with him. The other issue people had with him was his reluctance to pay a reasonable wage. With these 2 issues he's had around 58 guys come and go over the last couple of years. I may not have the experience but I work hard, turn up on time and keen to learn. I've got all my own kit and have made a lot of sacrifices to get my kit and pay the £3000 for the qualifications. I think paying a reasonable wage from the start for the right person is important.
  25. I didn't think this was a reasonable wage. I'm not expecting the earth but I'm 35 and still have bills to pay. All I was after was £10ph. I done an 11.5 hr shift and earnt £94.87. He has a subbie that only has basic lantra saw qualification and chipper and is on £90 for a 9hr day
