  1. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Silverline-598559-Compression-Testing-5-Piece/dp/B0015NRKFE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1522180760&sr=8-2&keywords=engine+compression+tester I used this ^
  2. One of the cheap silverline ones off E-bay, I left my 550 in the work van or I'd test it against that.
  3. So did a compression test tonight and got a reading of 110 psi. Worth spending a bit of money doing her up or is that rubbish compression? I heard somewhere that anything over 100 is alright?
  4. Was looking for an excuse to fit a bigger cylinder
  5. I've just noticed the top fin on the cylinder has snapped off on the right hand side. I'm assuming this will mean the right hand side won't be able to dissipate heat as well and therefore get hotter than the left? Tempted to throw an AM 52mm pot on and see how she goes...
  6. Well knowing what cc it is will dictate what bar I run
  7. Hey, I've been meaning to do this for ages, but I have an old beat up Stihl 038 I bought for £50 a few years ago as my 'first saw', far too powerful and unreliable to do my felling courses with so ended up using my Dad's Husqvarna 435 for my CS30. Anyway I've decided to do it up using as any OEM parts as I can, it still has decent compression (can almost hold it by the starter cord without it unravelling) and from what I read online they are a great saw, it just needs some TLC. My first question is, how do I tell what type it is? Stihl 038's had the stock, AV and Magnum versions, the stickers have all long since worn off (the side plate reads "Made in West Germany" so pre 1989). I guess the difference would be cylinder sizes, but don't really want to take the top end off just to measure, are there any other ways to tell what type it is? I'm also struggling to find parts diagrams, and there are some differences between this saw and the MS381, so not confident to use 381 parts. Any help will be much appreciated, Mark
  8. Nice truck!
  9. To be fair I think the blue arrows imply "cold this way"... Sorry if I missed the irony of the post!
  10. My camera is doggers, but I used auto-fix on my laptop
  11. I file my teeth from 25-35 degrees, depending on my level of distraction whilst sharpening, I can tell you from experience that they don't cut too good!
  12. It's light there for 6:30 pm! This is a good idea for a new thread, daily canopy pics so we can all prove to each other that we do actually climb trees for a living :')
  13. Light snow in West Wales, don't think it's hitting properly until later though.
  14. Yeah I only use 7-8" GM at work, but I'm not going to remortgage my house, everyone has big chippers around here and no doubt charges the earth for using them. I'm going to bottom feed from the whole industry with my 1.5k venom!
  15. Do you think you'll be going with GM? I'd love to try a Venom out for the day and see just how much they are capable of.
  16. How do you find it R Mac?
  17. @Rough HewnDid you get anywhere with your decision mate? There was a guy on here who really rated the Rock Venom chippers, I'd be interested to see they are going after 2-3 years. That really would make up my mind, I really want to support Rock Machinery as they have so many (from the outside) great products.
  18. Oh yeah, they do look very similar to the RedMax GZ3500. I wonder if thats proper husky X-Torque then or just RedMax's version! Stay away I think, if it seems too good to be true....
  19. Never heard of this saw, was it ever released in the UK? Anyone use one, opinions?
  20. A list of all the different categories would be handy on the Forums tab on the desktop website, would save me 2 clicks
  21. I'm by no means an expert but I've worked out roughly how much it costs per day for business expenses, insurances, paying for equipment + buying new equipment in 3 years etc... that gives me a figure and I just add what I want to make as profit on top ? of course out of that profit goes all my personal bills, rent etc.. I'm probably not actually making money thinking about it..
  22. But I do like the roofers conveyor belt idea!
  23. Poor bloke just wants to hire a crane
  24. Good spot, these take a hammering but I wouldn't like to use one for my 9-5!
  25. Thanks for the reply. Basically I just mean a fancy looking e-mail selling myself I'll give mailchimp a bash, but I don't think I'll be targetting as many people as you! Thanks for the help.
