  1. Not many forwarders in back gardens ?
  2. Ah, I thought entry was through the leaves only, not the new stalks. Pretty much they have no hope then. I wonder if Elm will come back one day or will the cycle of young trees getting reinfected be infinite...
  3. Yeah that wasn't meant as a theory of how to tackle it, my knowledge is limited to writing a short report the life cycle of Chalara during my level 3 diploma ?
  4. As the infection is annual, chalara needs healthy trees to infect is my understanding? Therefore if it gets so bad that trees get so bad that they wont come into leaf then all it takes is those mature tree with a root stock large enough to survive one or two years of having no canopy? Does that then mean that even of all ash gets hit then by default larger trees will survive?

  6. If every ash tree didnt come into leaf for 1 year we'd be rid of it, right?
  7. I've not been in the game long enough to track my Ash trees but I've got 4 mature 20m ash out the back of my house, they were fine last summer but all show mass die back and a lot of epigormoc at all all the major unions. Are people witnessing trees fighting it off o er a few years (due to lack of leaves meaning lack of ability for it to deploy spores on spring as there isn't as much infected leaf matter ). I'm tempted to rigidly burn all leaves as they fall this autumn to see if it makes a difference next year, but with it being windborne I'm not holding much hope.
  8. I don't understand how people believe it. I'm going to do some tests, wheres my tin foil hat?
  9. Bad luck mate, hopefully someone didn't get buy them all to sell on for profit, whole point of posting here was to help lads out.
  10. Important Message This item is no longer available from the seller you selected. Click below to continue shopping. Easiest 1750 quid I ever made! ???
  11. They seem to have pretty good reviews over a few years of being on Amazon, hopefully all goes well and you've had yourself a steal! I was going to buy another one but I really need something bigger!
  12. Not sure how legit this is, they might be mk1s, makes me sick as I paid double but there is 7 available so passing on the love: https://www.amazon.co.uk/HUSQVARNA-Professional-Chainsaw-550-XP/dp/B00IA1QBWW?SubscriptionId=AKIAJA54JMESX73IGPXQ&amp=&ascsubtag=390870569-14-1913477362.1536262536&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B00IA1QBWW&linkCode=xm2&tag=besdeatod00-21
  13. Anyone running one? How do they compare to 372s? I need to step up from my 550 and 560/562 is too close in cc to warrant buying a new saw. Alternatively does anyone know anywhere in the world that has 572s stocked? ?
  14. Was only going to do it roughly, whats the finish of bitumen like? (I should have asked that before painting!)
  15. Thanks, just put the first layer on of bitumen, stuff is like tar! Once she's dry i'll sand it all down and get a second coat on and upload some pics ?
  16. What paint do you guys use for wooden parts of your vehicles? Ideally I'd like something as hard wearing as my chassis paint, can I apply metal paints such as that to wood? Cheers.
  17. Yeah that's only 2/3 of the ram up, I get a 55-60 degree angle roughly.
  18. And after 3 months of evenings head scratching and learning to weld, here is the after shot Just the bed/chip box to sort out now (which will be in wood to start with, much more comfortable using it and this thing needs to get out and earn me some money!)
  19. Bought a 55 plate Ford Ranger Single Cab for use as an Arb Truck, here's the before shot:

  21. Hi Paul,

I was having a browse on the AA website earlier and in the Career Progression section there is no mention of any Academic Awards (FdSc, BSc Arb), only TreeLife's Level 4 & 6 awards.

It's maybe perhaps an oversight, but it does feel like you are only endorsing TreeLife & your own training as a method of advancing into consultancy. A lot of people look to AA as the standard for all things tree related, including our academia, and the current information displayed does seem to devalue degrees over vocational training.

Aside from all that, hope all is well and I look forward to attending the Trees & Fungi day in Swansea next month!

    Thanks,

    Mark Wileman

Hi Mark, thanks for your contact.

If I'm looking at the same section of the website that you refer to it doesn't mention TreeLife specifically, and of course the Training Tree and several Land-based Colleges offer the ABC Awards L4 & L6. However you are quite right that the academic FdSc / BSc options aren't mentioned but this may be because that page, I suspect, is actually quite old/dated and before those qualifications were main-stream as they are now.

I will flag this up to my colleague, Jess, and she update the page to better reflect the current position.

Hoping you enjoy the Trees and Fungi Day.

      Kind regards,

      Paul

      Hi Mark,

The website has now been updated to include reference to the higher level academic qualifications see https://www.trees.org.uk/Careers/Progress-your-Career

      regards

      Paul

      Thanks Paul, nice one! ?

  22. Oh, and regarding qualifications, if I where you mate I'd get my UA1,2.1,2.2 and try and get a job with a utility firm. If you want to cut trees exclusively, that is probably the best way of going about it. I see a fair bit advertised around your area, too.
  23. You just need to learn how to sell yourself, from what I just read you are an Aerial/Platform Tree Worker with 7 years experience in one of the largest grounds maintenance companies in the UK working in sensitive sites to a high H&S standard. After 7 years of 20% Arb related stuff that is (not including holidays etc..) around 500 days of tree work! Don't think that because you don't walk around with your chest out with an arbortech T-shirt on that you aren't worth money.
