    Lewis winch

has anyone got much experience with a Lewis Winch? considering buying one as they look great for the price.
  6. Have you checked that the cutters are all the same both sides with a gauge? even if new worth a check? I don't see how it can be anything other than bar, chain (usually chain) or maybe Stubby is correct and it's left handed wood.

    Birds of prey .

Plenty of Buzzards and Kites have recently started nesting in the area (Clwyds, North Wales). I've got a sparrow hawk that seems to like my garden... I've also got 2 tawny Owls that like shouting in the trees around the house most nights. love seeing them all and definitely an increase of all Raptors in the area!
  8. I've got a cheap Forrest master that take 4" and I've hammered it to be honest and it still runs a treat! I never expected it to last like it has or to take the work I give it and (touch wood) it's still running great and easily one of the best investments I made. As for hedge trimmings, I don't chip them, I drop onto a tarp and drag into the trailer as that quicker and easier than putting through a chipper IMHO.
  9. Where are you based? I have 3 big Sycamores to take down at home so could plan this in. I'm based in North Wales near Mold
  10. I Had issues with mine yesterday, I had it running pretty much none stop for a full tank then when I went to restart it, it refused until it cooled down! I put it down to overheating but it really shouldn't be the case!? Mine's only about 4 months old and I clean filters etc every week! Mines running fine now so don't want to take back to dealer for them to tell me it's ok...
  11. I use one of these and it's fantastic, runs all day and get through a serious amount of stuff! made my life so much easier! 6.5hp Petrol Wood Timber Chipper Shredder Mulcher
  12. I'll gladly help! When I'm not playing with chainsaws I'm an IT consultant specialising in such stuff
  13. If people keep doing it, Customers will keep seeing it and wanting it and it does appear to have become a common trend... I do wonder if some of it is lack of education from the person carrying out the work as well as the customer? I refused to top a mature tree the other week as it was perfectly healthy, I said enjoy the tree and I'll do some pruning on it for now. they were happy with this and all is well! some will listen!

    Small chippers

I bought one of these and it's fair to say I'm very impressed with it! it runs all day long and gets through a lot of timber! It's not so keen on some wood but then you just have to listen to the engine and be a bit more sensible! Next step will have to be a big 8" job that's not gravity fed though
  15. Ask local farmers if they want chippings for bedding live stock! it's allowed and farmers like free stuff!
  16. These are great and the rubber doesn't come off! I was recomended them by an instructor and I'm Very impressed so far! Towa Active Grip Advance - Oil Grip Performance - Sizes S-XL

    Small chippers

Thanks Steve! Agree with that in so many things in life... I'll get one and post some feedback soon for others in my position.

    Small chippers

Cheers Steve! Looks like someone has one and thinks it's ok! I'm not expecting miracles from it TBH just something to get me started.
  20. Hi, I'm just getting started and need to get chipping to help on job clean ups. I can't yet afford a big thing and struggle to warrant one as I log most timber over 3-4" anyway... I've found this that seems to look good and will cope with what I want but wondering if anyone has a view or experience with such sized chippers? http://arrows-uk.com/65hp-petrol-wood-timber-chipper-shredder-mulcher-p-697.html?gclid=CjwKEAiArvTFBRCLq5-7-MSJ0jMSJABHBvp0PTjdHKeys4zwhFBX2D7BgzUHQqYQPx9Vv_XIQ2EP8hoCDlzw_wcB Maybe one day I'll get a big one on tracks
