  1. Refrigerator lorry box is probably your best bet. Containers will always rot. I'm even considering a 4-6m3 kiln Made from ply and celotex. There are many threads on tinternet about people making kilns. [emoji106]
  2. As for the chain. It depends on top plate angle, the more above 0 the more lateral chatter. Different tooth length will only increase chatter and vibrations. Different depth gauge heights will also increase chatter and vibrations. However you can mill with different top plates, tooth length and depth gauges. As long as the mill runs flat. Teeth sharper on one side will try to curve cut, but don't push it and it will always cut straight but very slowly. [emoji106]
  3. Sometimes if a log isn't vertical grown it has incredibly strong tension and compression. Try milling a large branch. It can bend the plank you're cutting as you cut. Either it pulls the cut closed (Bed slats are good) Or it pulls open. Lifting the rear of the plank. Your photo doesn't make sense. Were you milling uphill from left to right? The cuts from right to left appear ok.
  4. Any metal/nails in the wood? That'll stop a mill.
  5. I air dry, but most of my stock gets sold green to woodworkers and furniture makers. Build a kiln! If you have an electric supply, A small 1-4m3 kiln is pretty straight forward. [emoji106]
  6. Can't find the tumble weed emoji... [emoji12]
  7. Where abouts you based Steve?
  8. As above, Clean air filter in hot soapy water and dry overnight. If you're flush, get a new spark plug, Using a "non flammable solvent" Or chain oil 50/50 with diesel and flush out the oil tank. Run the saw with fresh 50/50 to clean out the oil pipes. Check the controls are free from chip and dust, as a blocked earth connection means you can't turn your saw off.[emoji3] Pop the e clip off the clutch housing, Take off the clutch drum and needle bearings, check for wear and play on the crank and bearings. Grease needle drum liberally. Check your bar for irregularities, File off burrs, clean out grooves. Clean oil holes. A paint brush and a bamboo chopstick are my preferred weapon of choice against the ever present attack of the gummy oily sawdust. (The bamboo won't scratch paint or metal.) 9. Milled loads of sweet chestnut. Just mill it green as it does start to harden quickly. But not as bad as ash. Retail s.c at £600-£800 m3 or more. Kiln dried Makes great planks if a little dull. Lime only if it's big. Squaredy is spot on. [emoji106]
  10. More photos if possible
  11. You put the wedges in too deep, lifting the rear. Or when you enter the log your not level? Maybe[emoji848]?

  13. Got a long few days ahead, Made dates wrapped in streaky bacon. In the oven 180-200 for about 15-20 mins. [emoji106] Sustenance and cheer in a bite. Anyone making tasty snacks? Recipes and photos if possible [emoji3][emoji106]
  14. I would have suggested a stihl 261 but it's a husky thread... Maybe the OP just wanted a second rate saw?.... [emoji12] I'll be in my bunker.... [emoji12][emoji23][emoji3][emoji106]
  15. 346 the only small husky I'd pick up.[emoji106]
  16. In Japan, You see everyone's bicycle is locked up with the tiniest little plastic lock. But every bicycle is stamped with a registration number. Random spot checks by police. You are looking at serious time for stealing a bike if caught. Works in Japan... [emoji848]
  17. Chestnut is much easier to split than oak. And finding grade oak in this country is difficult. It's a lot heavier too. Serious work. [emoji106]
  18. I'm thinking teepee poles or big tents. [emoji106]
