  1. Any in free tip sites in Wigan @Steve Bullman always good to widen my contacts and tip sites etc.
  2. It ain’t too bad.
  3. @Wigan_TRAVif you want a price give us a shout I’m only in Wigan.
  4. Probably my shit humour! I said I’d hazard a guess the guy is from Wigan given his name Wigan_Trav ...... turns out the dudes from Chorley, next door mind.
  5. @Steve Bullmancan you change this guys name to Chorley_TRAV please?! ?
  6. Only going to hazard a guess here guys but judging by his name I’d lean towards him being in Wigan?
  7. Anybody?
  8. What’s out there guys and what do you use, looking for something with a work calendar, job sheets, invoicing/quoting and RAMS. I think arb pro looks to tick those boxes but seems pricey, is it worth the money?
  9. @silky fox is the man to answer that.
  10. I have and love the SJ3 however if you like the HC I’d wait and buy the new ZigZag when they release it as it’s basically a mechanical HC. My my thoughts on the ZZ are that it’s a great device and really simple to use straight out of the box, good all rounder. It’s 2 negatives are 1) you need a lot of rope through the device before it self tends and 2) they eat gloves if you climb in gloves. Sooo my thoughts on SJ3, brilliant device especially when paired with the rope guide, self tends like a dream with the rope guide and easy to use. It’s 2 negatives are 1) it hates friction so without a cambium saver/pulley saver/rope guide it’s god awful and 2) it needs upkeep ie new cams every now and then. I haven’t tried any other mech devices but my summary on these 2 are a ZZ is easier to get along with and ascending a tree where ladders won’t reach limbs and the throw bags out ZZ wins but in ideal set ups or trees where ladders will reach limbs SJ3 is sublime and you can literally climb the tree using hands and feet on limbs and the SJ glides up the rope on its own. Hope this helps.
  11. FB is ok for a company presence I hate it for everything else, I like Instagram as it’s pictures with a few words but again offers a presence. Arbtalk I love for its dry witted intimate humour, it’s as close to being in a pub as the internet will get. Not posted much recently as I have been super busy but do try to as much as possible when I can, whether I contribute anything or not.
  12. You don’t have to pass knowledge on, humour will do?
  13. Great post and it’s good to big people up when deserved.
  14. Thanks @stihlmadasever In my area I know a few ex council guys and they state it’s harder to get apps looked at and passed for them than the local private firms by the TO. Also our council guys are using rentakit and most of them who are decent are as you say 40+ and sadly institutionalised. People need to be careful what they wish for Sheffield as an example contracted everything out and we all know how that’s turned out. My opinion FWIW, if your determined to succeed and have the skill set to do so (if your shit your shit?) you will!
  15. I think @stihlmadasever may be able to offer some insight into this thread.
  16. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again your only as good/fast/efficient as your ground crew and personally I pay people what they are worth not what people perceive to be an industry standard.

    Bumpety bump.
  18. Mate honestly it matters not, ask any ex forces/forces guy who’s seen action the ones you’d think would be great under pressure or the ones who are trained to be great under pressure usually aren’t!!! Rely on yourself!! Cut small, don’t rush and value those underneath you! Any climber is as fast as his best groundie.
  19. I see where your coming from but again real world, UK trees, just climb the tree and stop over thinking. I get installing from the floor on absolutely massive trees however let’s be honest 90% of the time a ladder and a climb is quicker and easier than installing from the ground plus once you have your TIP you can easily throw a rope over another crotch for rescue.
  20. Why not just have an extra rope and throw it over a good TIP? You don’t need the fancy stuff, climb how your comfy and put a second line in the old fashioned way. If that’s your thing, real world you’ll get pissed off with installing and de installing a second line.
  21. You can have 5 climbers on a job but real world incident 4 of those could flap and go into shock upon a real world incident where a rescue is required and the 5th could be bleeding out. You can be as trained as you like and refreshed every 6 months but when needed I guarantee you things won’t go down as per risk assessment. If you climb solo know your limitations, if your in a gang your only as good as the guys beneath you, cut small think twice, don’t try to be fast and stay safe.
  22. Why don’t you just leave it all and let nature do it’s thing, if your not bothered like?

Hi guys I do an event every year and raise a bit of cash for charity, I either raise for a charity that’s been needed by people I know or for local charities that could do with a bit of a boost. Please check out my just giving page and donate if you can, no matter how small. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/wes-dawber1 The event I’m doing to raise money is Rat Races Man vs Mountain. http://ratrace.com/manvsmountain/ Thanks guys. Wes
  24. People need to remember/realise that pricing up is an art in itself and takes experience before you get to where you need to be. Id wager most of us have underpriced out of naivety/inexperience in our early days. What will be will be is how I look at work, you can’t win them all but the ones you do win make sure your not resenting yourself for underpricing yourself and your set up.
