    Fxcked Up!

Yesterday started horrible! Arrived at the job to remove 2 large conifers, small drop zone with sheds fences and a by line to contend with and instantly realised I had priced the job very wrong and only 1 was coming down on the 1st visit!! Gulp!! I had 2 options, 1 take a loss and crack on but the loss would have been substantial ( the odd time of its £100 quid out say I’ll crack on move on lesson learned) or 2 speak to the customer explain my self very apologetically and give them the option of us walking away whilst they go with quote number 2 or get more quotes. The customers knew I was genuine and could tell I was mortified a) because I’d Fxcked up but b) because I was potentially letting them down. We had a chat renegotiated on price compromised and cracked on. At the end of the day they where made up and understood the job needed 2 visits. We now have a good customer who has booked us in for 2 further jobs so the day ended well but started with a very humble beginning! my reason for posting is quite simple, we get quite a few threads on here of non payers and awkward customers etc but yesterday I experienced the good understanding type and relearned the lesson of being human and getting it wrong from time to time.
  7. Think you’d be better with a lock jack, that said I have a lock jack and do not get on with it.
  8. Same, was not interested in the slightest. His jab ran off and his punch output was shocking. Why he he felt the need to keep his hands/guard low against a fast counter puncher is beyond me. He he went in for the kill too quick after he dropped him, he should have stayed composed, played the long game and broke him down. Question is is will he want and have enough heart to take the rematch?!
  9. @kevinjohnsonmbe @Gary Prentice Think you have both both hit the nail on the head, as to being down to cuts to TO’s. For anything complex then yes agree get a report but it’s unfair to push the extra cost on the owner when they have no say on protecting the tree in the 1st place, and like you say if they want the tree out/reduced due to wanting a bit of sun a report is no good anyhow. If a tree is in obvious decline due to disease etc the surely a few pics on the application should be enough. I’m not one to get hung up over any app being refused etc I just move on to the next job, just curious to hear how other people’s LA’s work/act. I work mainly in 4 areas and 3 of the LA’s have great TO’s so cant grumble really the fourth did but I think is going through a change.
  10. Anybody else’s LA demanding Arb Reports alongside/as part of application’s to work on protected trees before issuing a response? Seems like tree owners may have to start paying twice to remove trees in my area.
  11. What you up to in Wigan Silks? BTW (I’m sure you already know mind) that stem is never fitting in the green bin!

    Birds/Nests

Again I’ll say it, not seeing many nests, hearing them and seeing them but not in the usual numbers still only moved one job! I’m conscientious too so I’ll inspect trees/hedges etc on the morning of the job as your never losing money just moving money if you find birds/nests etc seeems a strange start to spring for mine BUT I have thought for a good while now our seasons are slipping/moving.

    Birds/Nests

Are people seeing reduced numbers this year? Only have to move a couple of jobs so far, not complaining mind but slightly worrying on a nature front.
  14. I’d have clicked the van logo on the top of this page a couple of days before working in a new area and found a local top site.

Can’t answer for your age ☺️ But if your used to SJ3 and like it why change to something completely alien where you would be spending and re learning that in itself sounds hard work. Do you pair your SJ3 with a rope guide? I think it’s a great combo for size of trees we do.

SJ3 is awesome, I’m sending mine to HB who are sending it to ART to repair, personally thought about SRT but I don’t do enough large trees to justify the time money and effort converting. My bread and butter are between 30-60ft with the very odd larger one and for me the SJ3 tends that well its pointless.

Wow, have you side loaded that accidentally?

Emailed you guys about a replacement last night, if you could be so kind as to reply on whether you can source me a replacement it would be much appreciated. Thanks. Wes

    Kit Checks

It’s easy to become complacent and just chuck our kit on and crack on with the task in hand but kit checks are important and only take a few mins. I give my kit a quick once over before donning it but missed this today, spotted it as I was taking the top out at which point I was on strop chogging down anyway. Doesn’t look detrimental but one never knows.
  24. End of year returns, yes. Vat presume so as you have the option for it but I’ve always been employed and SE until last year so not vat reg’d but the way things are going I will be this year. Hope that helps
  25. Eggs just download Invoice2go and be done with it! It’s brilliant on iPad, you can do quoting invoicing and reports etc and you can also very easily edit quotes. You mark part payments and resend with remaining balance then record payed and resend marked as paid. Very easy to to use and a great app oh and if your on iPhone it syncs to that too so you can invoice/quote on the spot.
