  2. Any of you running something like one of these. Looking for recommendations and general feed back on them as thinking of buying one. There are several on the market from the likes of Giant Cast Toro Looked at the Sherpa on line but doesn’t look great. The one in the library image is the Giant 25D I would run it with a grab 90 percent of the time I suspect. They seem quite reasonable price wise. Cheers all
  3. Still running a cracking 064AV on a Regular basis. Just given it to Honey Bros to keep it in tip top shape for me. Love that saw. Has made in West Germany on the side so has a certain vintage to it. I run it on a 25” bar and it’s great. I’d honestly rather have it than the new 500i on the same bar. The older Stihls are superb. Not so keen on their new stuff. Mostly I’ve gone Husky and Echo now although the 881 is enticing .....

  5. Just use a wood owl. Doesn’t matter what the drill is you will cream through it. Unbelievable kit. Why put threaded bar into a tree though. ??
  6. All dead wood is far less forgiving to fell or cut, being hollow with rot exaggerates this no end. Learn a little about the different types of rot and how they affect the structure of the timber. That might help you with how you go about cutting. As previously mention use mechanical advantage to help. A portable winch or just setting up a double / triple purchase can really help. A lot of it will come down to simply how it feels as you begin making cuts. Watch the crown as well as the cut , it will tell you a lot about what’s happening as you are cutting. I don’t think there is a real problem solving answer for you. Just keep safety top of the list when dealing with these sorts of trees and if it goes wrong at least you shouldn’t get hurt [emoji106]
  7. Spud ported my 353. Cracking saw. That would be your best and most economical bet. Ported that saw will most likely outcut a new 550 by some margin.
  8. There’s isn’t a lot of redistributing a jam packed load of chip. Get a 7.5 t and save the worry
  9. If the sticker is to be believed .. But even as a single cab when modified you will not be as per the factory spec. I assume you would want a tool locker behind the cab ? Don’t forget passengers and tools are going to reduce that factory spec payload by say 150 to 200 kilos ..... so straight away you are under a tonne of available load left. Add a tool locker. That’s another 150 kilos maybe ... say you have 800 kg load left. That’s only half full at best in chip stating legit...
  10. If you fit load sensors you will most likely be telling yourself that everyday your vans are overweight. 3.5t tippers have a very small legal payload. The sticker in my transit double cab states 600kg payload left on the back with the driver in the cab. That ain’t a lot of Woodchip... stick another guy in the cab and load it with tools and it’s even lower again. sticking to the correct weight limits would really impact on your viability and how you have to price and time factor a lot of jobs. If a van looks overweight it’s far more likely to be pulled over. It’s very cheap to get up rated springs and barns doors fabricated. Less than the cost of load sensors. If you look legit you’ll be left alone. Ie lights all working , seatbelts on at all times etc. I’m really not condoning driving overweight in anyway shape or form but pretty much every tree surgery 3.5t vehicle is overweight every day, save for days being full with hedge trimming etc If you want be totally legit I would pursue options that keep you legal and commercially profitable. Trailers- my latest tipper trailer has a payload of 2.7t. It’s on gas struts and tows a dream when full. Look at 7.5t vehicles. They are a fraction of the cost of a 3.5t and you won’t worry about payload. Small enough to get on pretty much most sites still. Even if your driver needs a licence it’s cheaper to sort that than load sensors and most jobs you won’t have to run loads of chip to empty during the day Far less hassle than expensive sensors and multiple trips to tip from site I totally understand and admire your approach to stay within the rules but I think you might be setting yourself up for disappointment and future frustrations. You have probably considered my suggestions anyway but if you haven’t do give them some consideration All the best.
  11. His channel was good about 10 years ago. Since it went commercial it got really sh1t. Totally sold himself out. Hey it’s his income so hard to blame him but it’s a shame. The early days on his channel were nice viewing.
  12. Take a look at the today’s job thread. I used blue sky tree care’s grapple truck. On Thursday this week. Have chat to Julian. Drop me a PM if you want his mobile number. Very good bloke. I was very happy with the days work and fair price. Will use him again for sure. I’ve also used Al Wallace. Also a very decent guy.
  13. Took down this compromised Beech Tree today. Dismantled and cleared away In 6 hours thanks to my buddies grapple saw truck saving me a load of rigging and hard work. Some nice big pieces kept for milling and making garden furniture for the customer. A good day in the office. Back tomorrow to grind the stump out. HiCap with us again today [emoji106]
  14. By the looks of it he’s after the cm-w (heated handles). This list is the CM - non heated variation.
  15. The new TR8 55 diesel is stage 5. On the whole I’m pleased with mine. Chips like a beast. Few little niggles on the newly designed machine but Först have been excellent at resolving any minor bits very well. Nothing to do with the engine either. Worth a demo. They also gave me nearly double the px value on my outgoing Timberwolf which certainly sweetened the deal up. Keen to get your business they are. .. I think forst have a 10 inch in the pipeline so hopefully in a couple of years the TR8 will go back in against one of those [emoji4].

I tried that idea , inadvertently bought the most powerful 2 stroke going and scared myself stupid on it. Sold that pretty quick before I really hurt myself. Was fun jumping the wood chip piles though. At least they had a soft landing if it went wrong [emoji38]

  20. Good era though wasn’t it. The last sports bike I rode was the BMW 1000 rr. Epic performance but about the same size as my Ninja B1H. Bloody uncomfortable. The ninja was wonderful on track though. Way to hard sprung on the rd. I’m starting to hanker after an old zx9r , sports tourer by modern standards but I like em.

  23. I’ll have to see what’s written on my BFG Tyre’s on the hilux and compare to the transit ones. Would be interesting if they are viable. They last forever too Best thing these 3.5 t tippers could have is a diff lock. That would help this time of year. All to easy to get one side spinning up and the other doing nowt.
  24. Can’t fault my transit. Super reliable , very good torque. Parts are cheap and on the shelf. Mechanics find them easy to work on. Got to go a long way to beat it. Less sure about the most recent incarnation. Iveco is also very good Up rated rear springs are a must. And a set of barn doors to hide the naughty loads ...
  25. Mud terrains aren’t load rated high enough unfortunately but yes I’ve heard the thought before.
