  1. Danequip. ( for the larger 25/27hp ) Their version is nigh on identical to the old dosko. Very simple and reliable machine. Good service at Danequip too.
  2. It’s not a point of who will enforce existing machines. It’s a point of if the engines can’t meet the levels required to be retailed anymore. If the engines don’t comply they can’t continue to sell them hence not available and having to switch to a cleaner engine for their chippers so forst are going to Doosan.
  3. Kubota have no diesel that size at the moment that will be future proof as such. When I looked at the Timberwolf 280 they are sending out the last of the diesel Kubota , Greenplant then told me Timberwolf will be petrol for their 8 inch chipper going forward. They buy / sell enough of them so I would take that as accurate We’re all doooooomed .... comes to mind.
  4. Well I’m not sure if I am glad I read through this post or not .... I was just getting geared up to purchase a TR8 from forst. Had a demo day with one and thought it was decent. But in fairness turning up with any brand new 8 inch chipper whatever flavour it is should leave any one impressed I suppose. One big factor was the trade in value of my old machine was way higher with Först. They must take a knock on that part of the deal to hook you in. One thing is that there are now no Kubota engined units available and the TR8 will come with a Doosan 55 Hp diesel. Emissions regs i gather. Anyway the Doosan is a dpf engine and I’m not sure about the regeneration process where temperatures will be very high in what could be a dusty machine with Woodchip in nooks and crannies. Is there a potential fire risk in operating conditions as opposed to a shiny clean demo machine doing a small amount of chipping. And there I was thinking I had made my mind up ..... Of note the rep did acknowledge and accept issues with early machines and went through how issues were now ironed out with the latest machine. In fairness there wasn’t any dodging of faults or shifting blame.
  5. Hi Sold it around the time of this post. A trader bought it and fixed it up a bit. Seemed to know what he was doing with old landies Can’t tell you anymore than that I’m afraid.

    Stump grinding

I agree. Everyone’s overheads are different. Price it and leave it. Unless the job is big and there is more fat on the job to negotiate with you will only kick yourself if you go cheap. I priced some stumps 2 weeks ago. £440 plus vat. The customer wanted me to do it but they had a quote for something like £280 with no vat. I politely told them that was a bargain and they should take it. They still asked if I would negotiate. Nope. No doubt an element of bluff calling goes on.

    Ineos Grenadier

Can’t help but think it’s going to be over hyped. Just looks like a defender. The car landrover should of built basically. Hardly revolutionary.
  8. Does anyone have a form covering assessments and protection measures for trees on building sites? Thanks all.
  9. Anyone on here run a fair sized tracked mulcher that would like to quote on a stage of works at a job in Haslemere. Thought I would offer it up in here first before asking the likes of Kingwell etc. Get in touch if it may be of interest. Thanks.
  10. As per Doobin. Put up rated springs on so you don’t look overweight and draw attention. Any 3.5t van with high sides that’s full of chip will be overweight. It’s not big or clever but it’s the way it is .. I bought springs from midland road springs. They are rated 1.5t over and above the normal springs. Very pleased with them. When the barn doors are shut you wouldn’t know there was much in the back.
  11. I wish I could do the same with the amount of junk my missus hoards in the house [emoji23] I’m not brave enough though lol.

    Booze

I’m not fussed on a lot of the craft lager or IPA. They seem to make them very ‘floral’ which makes it ok for a pint but not a session beer. ..... oh wait maybe that’s the answer to reduce my consumption rate [emoji23] If it’s a real beer I find it’s hard to beat Doombar or Tim Taylor’s ‘landlord’ is another good one but more often than not it’s a cold lager that hits the spot.
  13. I bet you don’t get one [emoji23]. Tilia platyphyllos for the leaf.

    Booze

The down side and the upside for me is my mum owns a pub and I’m Supporting trade by buying wine through the pub from the suppliers. It’s my effort for the economy and supporting independent businesses [emoji23]

    Booze

So, who’s drinking more in the evening during lock down. ? I’ve noticed I’m consuming more. Not that work has been much different to normal but definitely sinking more whilst in lockdown. Anyone else the same ? Maybe I need another workshop project so I’m drinking tea instead of booze most of the evening [emoji23]
  16. Dear All. I’m looking to buy a predator 38x stump grinder. Local dealer tells me shipment awaited and not here til July perhaps. Anyone looking to move a low hours machine on? I will consider comparable alternative makes of similar power output but having looked at a few machines I thought the predator suited my needs best. Thanks in advance
  17. If you don’t have time to sharpen them ensure a set of teeth are factored into a full days grinding and bin them. I would say switching to Rhino teeth would be a smart move. They are better for grinding and easier / quicker to sharpen so you might be more inclined to do it.
  18. They aren’t fragile at all. Had my 2511 since they came out. Had it modded by spud and it’s an awesome saw. Doesn’t need any special treatment. I’d say tougher than the current plastic fantastic saws by stihl. 201’s have far more a reputation for disintegrating handles and filter covers .....
  19. Even if you only do one project and sell it on it’ll be worth it in the time you save. I’ve not looked at the specs but I would imagine it’s hard to find one that will mortise 12” from one position. Maybe be worth you buying a second hand one then reselling to minimise your loss. Just check chain condition etc carefully. Make sure everything locks in position And hasn’t worn. Fantastic tools and will save you days and your sanity !
  20. I’m out topping fields at the mo. Drop me a message on 07780614112 and we can sort a time to bring it down. Cheers [emoji106]
  21. Are you able to fabricate a new subframe ? Cheers
  22. Sadly it’s shot. Not repairable.
  23. Anyone here sources a replacement tipper subframe for a transit or similar. I have a transit with a scattolini tipper. The van and the Arb back are in excellent nick but the subframe isn’t. Boulter tippers at Basingstoke built the conversion for me and could fabricate a replacement although quite pricey. So wanted to investigate if there are other options off the shelf so to speak. Anyone here replaced theirs ?
  24. I’ve had the same request. Going by the guidelines on last nights news if you can maintain social distancing then you should be able to deliver logs without concern.
  25. For mid size 50 -70 cc saws I run husqvarna now and I’m delighted with them.
