  1. I wish I never mentioned it. I was away for 6 weeks, thats long enough when my wife is desperate for me to come home. I should clarify that the day rate is only when Im off-shore and in my off-period. I would have to wait to 'reset' my time from the last trip which is 7 days where Id only get £100 bonus and as soon as I got off-shore Id be on the higher amount. The last two weeks of my last trip was in my off-period so thats me ok for a while. Right now Im happy to be home with my family.
  2. If the first line is nonsense Im hardly going to bother reading the rest am I? I'll expect its bs too.
  3. As mentioned earlier latex gloves are sold in boxes of 100, thats 100 gloves, not 100 pairs.
  4. I really dont know, I never asked him. He's been a dole bum the last 15 years.
  5. on that basis 30 years of doing something you thought you might, or did like and changed your mind is significantly longer. But then getting a trade under your belt sailed into the Sunset. My oldman was a climber, he ended up hating it but was stuck as he did not know anything else.
  6. That’s closer to it. I did suggest he get a trade behind him as something to fall back on. I stand by that and don’t see the problem suggesting it. It would only be 4 years out of his working life and the opportunity to get an apprenticeship only happens once in your life. He’d be under 25 years of age with a trade behind him and years and years left to take up climbing in what seems like an oversaturated market should he still have the bug.
  7. Im not overly fussed really, to busy to actually take any jobs on right now. Hopefully it gains traction though.
  8. You know, thats a genuine worry. I have little transferable skills into the 'real world'. Im one of 6 in our company in Norway who does what I do, Im senior. I was sitting on my business class seat on the flight back to Aberdeen today after 6 weeks in Norway and they begged me to do another 3-4 weeks at £1000 a day. I knocked them back as I miss my wife and kids. Im a time served Car Mechanic and have a second four year apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering (for what thats worth) but you're right, how do I transfer 22 years in the oil game to real life? It simply does not equate. My plan is to buy all the gear but understand I'll have no idea.
  9. You think thats only been added now? Bless. Edit; My CV your Your's? I already have it added to mine so no point in adding it twice.
  10. Of that I had no doubt. That you hold such a view surprises me not one iota.
  11. Joseph de Maistre also said we get the government we deserve.
  12. And we all know what makes a lad blind.
  13. Its a 1971 Valiant Charger. Australian built car based on the American A Body Mopar, ie Dodge Dart, Dodge Demon, Plymouth Barracuda, Plymouth Duster etc. This is my 5th one.
  14. Never to old to learn! I think the more you keep learning and keep active the younger you stay.
  15. Good to see its working for someone. Not a sniff at my end.
  16. There is a stack of threads or at least posts in this section covering this very issue. The question was raised again just a post or two ago. Might be worth a search through the threads to get an answer on a subject thats been heavily covered within the last 12 months? Not having a pop, its one Ive asked too. If theres any fresh updates here I'll also be reading them with interest.
  17. Not sure if thats a pedantic comment, ignorant or an attempt at being facetious?
  18. Zero feedback as well. Obviously a scam.
  19. Well initially your comment seemed to focus on the width. But as I mentioned, he needs 700mm and 30" Planers are out there. So I really dont see your point? Then you threw this line in at the end, utterly meaningless and clearly nothing to do with the width. Perhaps if you use started to think about what your wrote before posting, maybe adding some punctuation as well your asinine ramblings could be more easily deciphered? Its also rich calling someone else a muppet when you write like a retarded 12 year old. But I guess you dont need to waste your time in actuality conveying whats going on in your head when your a self confessed 'Top Chippy'.
  20. He said he wanted 700mm. But granted that could be a touch to big as well. I'll assume 24" planers are not impossible to locate. Even 30" Planers are out there, maybe even wider? My Mate has a 24" Planer, Ive never asked him but Id expect he'd happily plane someone a slab for £50. Im not sure if you're referring to my comment that it would cost him £50 to get it planed or the width needing planed? Your comments are always quite cryptic.
  21. Take the slab to a shop that has one. You might get lucky and they only charge you £50 to pass it though their planer.
  22. Wood will naturally twist and warp to some degree, regardless how you dry it. (Im a novice and still learning) But you can minimize this by heavily weighting or strapping the timber to limit how much warping you'd get. So if you where to buy one green slab and dry yourself and did not know how to dry it properly then you run the danger of badly warping, cracking, splitting or checking the board. I dont kiln dry. I Air Dry and then finish in the house. Although Id like to invest in a Kiln at some point. There seems to be different opinions on whats better Air Drying or Kiln drying. No, Kiln drying will not prevent insects burrowing their way though. Why would it?
  23. What a nightmare. Getting a hand for a reasonable rate is an issue for sure. I can get a lad for £100 a day. But Im too tight for that.
