  1. You put the logs on the mill when its parked up Leslie
  2. I think there would be a lot of surprises. But I can see the net contributors wanting out and the net beneficiaries voting to stay in. The EU has destroyed the landscape of Europe irreversibly.
  3. Sorry Eggy. I genuinely could not see where I wrote that. Never thought to look at your posts
  4. It would be a very interesting project if all the countries within the EU where allowed their own referendum.
  5. Ok? It was not in the quote you asked the question in so Im out.
  6. I could tell you a few stories. You'd not believe a word
  7. And they earn every penny! Im hard pressed to rod my own drains let alone anyone else.
  8. Well that was something I was gonna comment on as well. Its basically communism with extra steps added.
  9. Pints might be £12 a pop here but no one drinks them. They get hammered on homebrew, moonshine and 'black' booze then heard into town for an hour, have a drink or two then head back for an after party. There is no 'local' mentality here. Everyone works better and harder when you've gone from earning pennies to a kings ransom over night Not for £9 an hour they cant. Not while there is an abundance of benefits that payout almost the same. The whole system is an utter mess.
  10. Exactly, its not going to encourage anyone. The reality is they need to look at what £9 an hour buys someone from Latvia, or Poland and offer the British the same. Im quite sure we'll see an end to folk here being called 'lazy brits'
  11. Perhaps the lure of cheap foreign labour should never have been allowed to be danged in front of them? Businesses will always look at the bottom line as opposed to following a moral compass. Do you think companies would follow the Minimum wage laws if they where removed? Of course not. Where we not to have have the EU thrust upon on Id suspect we'd not be in the situation we are now. 25% increases in the catering industry is a start, as is seeing trades commanding £250-£300 a day wages. I'll hazard a guess that the buying power of these wages will be akin to what a tradie was on, and what he could buy on his wages before the mass influx of cheap labour, ie a home going back to being 3 x their yearly wage. Inflation is skyrocketing on a global scale, not just in the UK. Time to invest in Gold again :D
  12. Yeh, Ive always just screwed the round to a board or two from below and/or from the side so you can straddle two bunks and so the log wont try and tip over. Then clamp the board to the bunks as per usual. I dont think the Op is on about what most folk would consider cookies though, I think hes specifically after 'surf board' Slabs that have a ring of bark around them, ovals as some call them. Sawing and Drying Diagonal Slices from Logs WWW.WOODWEB.COM Here's some advice on equipment and technique for creating oval-shaped slices through large logs, marketable for various...
  13. I think talking about cock is his day-job.
  14. Makes more sense than the story I was told anyway. Still, came in by boat and was auctioned off at the quayside. No idea what it made though, maybe Dave knows. I'll stick to getting my supply from the Estates around me
  15. https://9gag.com/gag/aAbLy4E#comment
  16. Certainly makes more sense. They must have something like Samson Posts down there like Rigs do on the Pipe Decks?
  17. Was that through Ken? Or maybe Harold? Do you know how they where loaded on the ship? It was that lad with the big lumps of Oak we where gonna buy off of him that was looking to buy some but backed out due being so far from Montrose.
  18. The loads at the time where Birch. I first got wind of them through a lad who does large quantities of Firewood. Thinks nothing of turning stunning logs of all species into it. He was told by a well respected local haulier when logs where in very short supply. So it’s a bit of a “my brother-in-laws sisters boyfriend” story unfortunately. 🤣 I think @Johnsond actually got his hands on some of the Birch, big fat buggers, not like you see around here that if they are that size they’re rotten on the middle. He might have a clearer picture.
  19. Not a clue, sorry. It’s just what I was told. I guess it’s ok for a short hop across the North Sea?
  20. I could not work without a loader, even with my baby 751. I can move beams around easy enough on a trolly but 24” slabs? No thanks.
  21. Ever past Angus Biofuels outside of Kirriemuir? Acres of softwood logs, many a nice diameter for milling and as clean and as straight as you like stacked a good 10m high. All for chip.
  22. Yeh, it’s not fun turning 1.5t logs with a flat side or two with a Cant Hook. 🤣 I bought the Logosol Log Turner, best £700 I ever spent. Makes light work of it and is great for squaring up perfectly because (as I’m sure you know) just because the log is hard up against the log rest does not mean it’s 100% square. So being able to tweak the log til it is is great. But I’ve not seen or played with Dave’s machine yet so perhaps he can do that anyway? Im looking forward to seeing Dave beast, it’s certainly a very well engineered looking bit of HD kit!
  23. Woodmizers seem to last forever, plenty of 20-30 year old beat-up Mizers still earning their keep. But they are also have serious lead times just now as well. If I had the coin I’d certainly not rule them out. Logosol don’t really do hydraulics yet, which is a shame. But the B1001 is significantly cheaper than £24k plus vat. They are also very well made with first rate support. Two year almost no quibble parts replacement and prompt delivery direct from Sweden. They also have two or three dealers/stockists in the U.K. But forget the Welsh Dealer, totally useless. Dave said he’ll pop down with his machine soon. Really looking forward to it. Got a few nice big lumps to put through it. [emoji16] Just need to entice him with some oak. [emoji16]
