  1. There is a lot of regulations in regard to what Trees can and cannot be cut down in the UK. TPO's Felling licences etc. You simply cannot go around felling trees, especially endangered trees in complete disregard for the environment and the species. There might well be millions and million of trees in Africa but the destruction of entire ecosystems over there to feed our whims is rampant. Now Im not saying Id not buy one of these slabs if I had a use for one but Im equally sure that if I did Id not be be getting a certificate to show its not been felled in compliance for any regard for the environment. Im sure you're not as naïve as this either. People should not be mocked by the likes of yourself for caring about the worlds ecosystem nor the huge carbon footprint of shipping Timber all over the World. Anyway, looking for ward to seeing the pictures Black Limba looks stunning.
  2. I’ll try and time my trip for a Sunday to Thursday 😁
  3. Some fair points J. It’s just the delivery you need to work on. 😗😝 I remember the euphoria of leaving Scotland to move to Norway and the daily feeling of amazement at how much better Norway was than Scotland, but as the years worn on it just became life and home was home, more for the missus mind. I do miss Norway but I love Scotland. I’ll most likely retreat into the Highlands more and more as I get older for much the same reasons you mention. Sure looks like you took that pic whilst driving a LHD car. 🤣
  4. I genuinely think that no matter the evidence presented to you you’ll point blank refuse to accept or acknowledge the systematic failure of U.K. being a member of the EU and will downplay the U.K. prospering post-Brexit to anything other than leaving the EU. The U.K. dong badly just now? That’s Brexits fault, nothing to do with Covid. The EU recovering very well in years to come? That was because of Covid, nothing to do with Brexit. The problems you complain about living where you do I find myself smiling at since I have a rather fit sister-in-law who lives a stones throw away from you and posts multiple times a day of her Swimming and running and living an outdoor lifestyle. She’s seriously into her outdoor swimming. But the rest of what you complain about (as you know) simply don’t exist here in Scotland. Norway might not be the ideal place to live in Scandinavia, but the rest of Scandinavia sure likes to come here to live and work.
  5. People want to buy second homes in the U.K., people want to buy second homes in Norway. But far more people in Norway but second homes and I can sssure you it’s not just cabins by lakes, not even remotely close. Far more affordable? You have to be kidding me! House prices here are extortionate. It’s inconceivable for one parent to work here and make ends meet. Even for the second parent to work part time is a stretch. Kids never see their parents it’s a crying shame. Dropped off at pre-school, school then either walk home themselves and make their own dinner or it’s after school club then wait to be picked up. All from the age of 1. The state raise the children here, not the parents. They might well be building more, but then Norway is virtually empty. The U.K. is not. Again, ending unfettered migration from 3rd world countries in the EU unquestionably had to end to slow down the over population boom we’re experiencing.
  6. There is that as well. But both are seen here in Norway as well. Marriage, if there is any does not seem to last any longer here than it does in the U.K. very few partners seem to stay together for long. Property investment is no different either. Second homes! Come to Norway, you’ll soon learn about second home ownership. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
  7. But is not the cause of this, as you already admit, over crowding? Over crowding caused in the main part by a massive influx of cheap Labour from the EU. Couple this with the significant drop in wages again due to the mass influx of cheap Labour from the EU. Everything you describe above can be placed firmly at the feet of the EU.
  8. I see it’s his birthday today. So it’s either the reason he’s extra grumpy or he might perk up later. 🤣
  9. Then take away minimum wage. Lets see how the market reacts to that.
  10. You should look in the mirror a bit more frequently Leslie You might see what many of us here do.....
  11. Not really, I'll freely admit to being wrong. It just does not happen often
  12. Aye, fair enough, I'll give you that
  13. Then it would no longer be close to 2t would it?
  14. You put the logs on the mill when its parked up Leslie
  15. I think there would be a lot of surprises. But I can see the net contributors wanting out and the net beneficiaries voting to stay in. The EU has destroyed the landscape of Europe irreversibly.
  16. Sorry Eggy. I genuinely could not see where I wrote that. Never thought to look at your posts
  17. It would be a very interesting project if all the countries within the EU where allowed their own referendum.
  18. Ok? It was not in the quote you asked the question in so Im out.
  19. Ive no idea? Who wrote it?
  20. I could tell you a few stories. You'd not believe a word
  21. And they earn every penny! Im hard pressed to rod my own drains let alone anyone else.
  22. Well that was something I was gonna comment on as well. Its basically communism with extra steps added.
  23. Pints might be £12 a pop here but no one drinks them. They get hammered on homebrew, moonshine and 'black' booze then heard into town for an hour, have a drink or two then head back for an after party. There is no 'local' mentality here. Everyone works better and harder when you've gone from earning pennies to a kings ransom over night Not for £9 an hour they cant. Not while there is an abundance of benefits that payout almost the same. The whole system is an utter mess.
  24. Exactly, its not going to encourage anyone. The reality is they need to look at what £9 an hour buys someone from Latvia, or Poland and offer the British the same. Im quite sure we'll see an end to folk here being called 'lazy brits'
  25. Perhaps the lure of cheap foreign labour should never have been allowed to be danged in front of them? Businesses will always look at the bottom line as opposed to following a moral compass. Do you think companies would follow the Minimum wage laws if they where removed? Of course not. Where we not to have have the EU thrust upon on Id suspect we'd not be in the situation we are now. 25% increases in the catering industry is a start, as is seeing trades commanding £250-£300 a day wages. I'll hazard a guess that the buying power of these wages will be akin to what a tradie was on, and what he could buy on his wages before the mass influx of cheap labour, ie a home going back to being 3 x their yearly wage. Inflation is skyrocketing on a global scale, not just in the UK. Time to invest in Gold again :D
