    Tesla Powerwall

Just to catch up. I paid for the powerwall from my own pocket, covered by saving the payments from my 3.885kv solar install. You can control how it charges - it has two modes. 1. Any excess solar not used by the house is used by the battery and released when house demand is greater than solar available. 2. Time shift. You get 1 above, plus the ability to tell the powerwall when to charge from the grid. I have a time of use tariff where I pay 5p KWH for electric between 00-01 and 7am. So the battery is allways charged to full by 7am. This in effect means the most I will pay for electric at any time of day is 5p instead of 17-24p. to buy one there is a long waiting list, it costs £5k + install. This is a business deductable expensive if used to power your home office/business. I was an early adopter of solar so benefit from the original feed in tariff rate of £0.55p /KWH. from may to early October I average 15KWH per day. As you can see this adds up fast. No wonder the gov scrapped it. These batteries will become commonplace in a year or two and much much cheaper, same as when solar first came out. My panels and install were best part of £10k, they are now £5k. The other tech coming up is using an electric car as a battery for the house, these have much bigger capacity - tesla 90kwh that would power a house for week. Using a combination of solar and time of use you effectively make the electric bill insignificant. Add some heat source pump to this and say good bye to the gas bill as well. For many people, especially retired, after the rent or mortgage, energy bill is the next biggest. If it can be got rid off largely then its a winner.
  3. you lot are mad messing about with fires. If you have land, ground source heat pump if you dont air source heat pump.
  4. Had it fitted yesterday, already had 3.85KW of solar. The unit 'holds' 13.5 KWH of energy and can discharge a max of 5KW at once. The idea being the solar tops it up when your at work and then you get to use it a night. I also have switched to the 'time of day' tariff which allows the powerwall to charge up (winter/spring/autumn) for 5p/unit instead of 20p during early hours of the morning. I am fortunate in that it was free, paid for out of my solar payments. the display is quite cool, shows where the power is being used.

    New Digger

as its long arm, it has to sit ont h bed of the pickup as its too long to fold up enough to sit on the triler plate. Fortunately we'll move it probably 3 times a year so not much of an issue. i tow it with a daily. 3500 tow capacity.

  10. ive got 3 buckets brand new a 9" , 600mm and grading, unused if anyone wants to make an offer. to fit kubota 3 tonner.
  11. ah i didn't read the while thread. In that case just tell them in the politest way possible to Foxtrot Oscar. Wait till its dark then kick f**k out of every panel, I'll give you a 100% alibi.
  12. have a read of this to see just what a mess PD really is and what you can get away with no problem. https://planningjungle.com/wp-content/uploads/Part-1-of-the-GPDO-The-10-Worst-Permitted-Development-Loopholes.pdf
  13. sounds to me you are only falling foul of putting the shed closer than 2M to the boundary right ? This means permitted development doesn't apply. Lets ignore the work issue, as you wont work from home and they cant prove you do. Just because you have work gear at home doesn't mean anything. It also doesn't matter your front garden looks like a pikey site, its your garden to do as you will with. Bang in an application you will get it approved 99%. If they refuse, which they wont, then appeals are free. Take some pics or use google earth and find 20 sheds within half a mile built close to fences and keep it in your back pocket.
  14. the kubota can be towed legally with buckets on the pickup. alumax trailer is 500kg, machine is 2.99!
  15. the high spec 3 tonner with dual circuits is 23k then however much the tilty is. and you get 3 years warranty and zero hours. better investment than any ISA sub 3 tonners.
  16. pretty expensive for something thats done 4k hours. Brand new kubota only a couple grand more.
  17. on the plus side, you can write off bad debt against your tax. So make sure you charged all the interest you can to run it up as large as possible.
  18. found an interesting coin that pays interest . https://bit.diamonds/ let the coins sit in the wallet, with wallet open and it 'mints' or pays interest so your coin pile increases. As with most of the alt-coin market prices have dropped so good time to buy in. As allways dont put your life savings in, but a couple hundred quid worth a punt. It's currently dat at $7 and was at $40 in Jan, its never had a price that it hasnt subsequent beaten. Never know it may pay for the summer hols.....
  19. not all brickies want site work as its variable and you have to crack out the numbers day in dayout. Also have to travel to sites a long ways. Not everyones cup of tea. some prefer more reliable local work and 150 is the going rate in midlands. obviously some more some less depending on skill and speed etc
  20. brickie 150 chippy 160 plumber 180 all less 20% CIS. More in london, more expenses as well.
  21. they m they may be wrong in terms of the law and paperwork BUT its your time they are successfully wasting. With Councils you have to bob and weave, pick your fights.
  22. not sure I have an application for it but its on my christmas list
  23. high tip is better to save double handling getting them on the pickup. We hire in Hinowa ones infrequenty in the building (all too small to be usefull) and they are ok and take some stick.
  24. dont forget you will lose holiday pay, sick pay and redundancy. 120 less 20% for tax leaves your boss a saving as he wont be paying NIC for you anymore as well as all the above. As an employer this would be a no brainer for me. Of course it may not be about the money from your bosses point of view......
  25. just hire in a bloody crane for an hour!
