  1. You sound like a busy man! Especially juggling logs and lambing which let's face it are both very time consuming. But that is the main attraction of a kiln that if you do well and sell most if your dry stock it's only a matter of a week and you can re supply customers with dry logs. We had it when we first started that the first 3 seasons we ran out of dry logs so just had to say we have logs but they're not really ready to burn, some people went else where others bought them and dried them in front of their fire before burning and others bought them to store and use the following year. What it has done is a lot of those people now buy and stock up during summer and early winter
  2. Looks like a nice robust splitter and that is a lovely sized log deck
  3. I'll have to have a look at rotatech. I pay 20 for my chains but that's if I buy them in a quantity of 6
  4. What chains do you usually use then. I've never used rotate chains as my processor uses oregan chains, which for me are very long lasting. All depending on wood and if it's clean etc, and thinking of it I've not had a chain break on me yet, *touch wood* it stays that way
  5. Yeah that's very true, and that's what we do as we only sell mixed loads, unless someone asks for just hardwood which I think has happened probably about 5 times in the 5 years we've been doing it
  6. From a video of cutting big is diameter wood to a video cutting smaller stuff. Have any of you been busy processing lately?
  7. Hopefully link above works. Was processing some decent size lumps the other day, probably about 16" diameter, should of had the 8 way splitter head on but made do with the 4 way. Just meant putting the big lumps back through, but there was only 4 lengths of wood this size so it all worked out fine in the end!
  8. I have never heard of the price fallows splitter, be great if u could put some pics/videos up! If you go where it says *go advanced* click on it then scroll down and you should find a box where it says *manage attachments* click on there then add pics from whatever device your using.
  9. Gdh have you ever found yourself I'm a situation where you can't get the logs dried quick enough to fulfill orders?
  10. Something that never gets mentioned is an open fire, I take it kiln dried would Burn almost instantly on an open fire that just draws
  11. And a lof burner is far more inviting that the poxy gas fire thing that we have, I do like the look of an original brick fireplace
  12. Well that'd just it for us it would be free as I'd just nick a few logs of ourselves. Apart from that I suppose you can't put a price on the enjoyment of having a nice cosy fire, and like I said we would keep the gas
  13. I'm thinking of installing a log burner in our house, all hot water etc is from gas, but with a log burner there would be no need to have any of the radiators on as the heat from the fire would soon warm up the house, it's not very big, so gas would only need to be used for hot water for taps, and bath. It's all hypothetical talking but I reckon wood would be cheaper,
  14. We've had it a few times that kiln dried burns too quick, the main feet back when regarding kiln dried is that it's quite a bit more expensive and without going into the science side of things customers said what's the difference your air dried logs burn just as well but not as fast as the kiln dried but is a lot cheaper, and lasts longer. And I think a lot of people have it as a background heat or for the enjoyment of sitting by a fire si they're not particularly fussed on how it's dried as long as it burns well and looks nice, and of course warms them up a bit.
  15. We very rarely get willow in but a lot of it I use to keep and burn ourselves but I found when dry it burnt perfectly ok so we do mix a little but in, but there's such a small amount if u averaged it out you probably get one piece per bag!
  16. Good to hear! Yeah we sell it mixed as our wood is mostly from abreast, I'd say on an average each bag is probably 60-80 percent hardwood. We vert rarely have problems with selling softwood. My guess would be that most people don't find an issue with seasoned softwood, and probably couldn't tell the difference and the other reason being price, If they want just hardwood other suppliers near us charge around 120 a bulk bag for it, so I think they prefer to give the mix of hard and soft a go!
  17. Sales have seemed to have dropped off a bit for the last week but it has been pretty warm. Hoping to have a few frosts to 1 improve sales, 2 to harden the ground up!
  18. We don't sell logs in nets but can sell firewood in bulk wholesale that you can ackage and sell as you please, we're also based in Hertfordshire.
  19. It depends on what wood you have to process, if it's cordwood then get a fair amount in and hire a processor (has to be 18" diameter and under) if it's a mix I. E arb waste I'd say stick with a chainsaw and log splitter, yes it can be hard work, believe me I know, but it's the quickest, easiest and most versatile option, I personally wouldn't get a pto saw bench as Imo it's a bit slower and can only take certain logs, we get a lot of arb waste in and I separate stuff that can go in a processor and stuff that need to be done with chainsaw, overall it's a lot quicker and it breaks up up the ordeal of using/ doing the same thing
  20. It's pros are that it's easy to process, doesn't splinter and is quite a clean wood so you have less waste when splitting, cons, hard to get it dry and keep it dry especially of your storing outside, isn't the best burning wood some would say but I find it burns well to be honest
  21. See just shows that mistakes can happen but people are genuine and try there best to rectify it. We would the same but would urge customers to be upfront so we can solve the issue instead of saying nothing and giving u a bad name.
