  1. I use a maul for splitting wood and setting felling wedges, I have a fiskars x27 in my shopping basket so I'll give it a try this winter. I can't get on with splitting with an axe as I have a lot of old gnarled wood to split but anything really bad goes through the log buster or it gets ripped through with a saw
  2. Spent the morning cutting firewood with the beast, and found a few small problems on the saw only a few loose fittings but managed to get away with a full load of wood and another load chunked up ready for the next visit to the forest
  3. I've got my 200T on the bench, I've just changed the oil seals on it and I have to fill some of the plastic screw holes where the pull starter fixes to the main body, they are a little stripped and not holding that well. I've also got a husky 450 that won't start, plenty of fuel and a good spark but a no go on the running side of things, Tho only problem is that this husky's a PITA fiddly in the carb area, worse than working on a 200T handle carb connection rods
  4. Good to hear about the electronics rather than the points, I'd look at possibly changing the fuel pipes and impulse hose as they may be worn or weak around the fittings. I've had the same problem with an old saw before and I'd look at any AV mounts that need replacing I've fitted a new ignition trigger module to an old saw ( 051 ) and it's brought new life to the saw I'm just waiting for some more modules to turn up for my 041 and 038 . the 041 has points and I'm hoping to use it for a mill saw.
  5. I've used white vinegar on long drills and old chisels just don't leave them in for too long as it will dissolve the steel. It happened to me with a few old files but they were emersed for a few months
  6. Well fitted a new mower ignition module to the saw, a lot cheaper and easier than getting a second hand one from the bay. The saw now spits out sparks from the plug so I shall be cutting with it in the next few weeks, nothing like the old saws with the worn out av mounts and no safety break to keep you on your toes
  7. I'm not sure about that exact model but most saws I have changed the oil pump on require that the clutch is removed to gain access, which means that the side is stripped out rather than the bottom. If I remember correctly the only two saws that had bottom access were the Stihl ms250 and a cheap best green one but that was a few years ago?? Post up any pics and we could possibly help a little bit more
  8. Ive got the ignition triggering module from my 051 on the bench but i cant find any how to's on testing, anyone got any tips or tutorials?? please
  9. I've got some wood that was felled and cut this year and it's ready for sale now, but it has reached the high forty's here some days. This morning I had seven wedges in one hornbeam log and that was a bugger to split but the log has been basking in the sun for months
  10. I have a lansky system, well worth the money but for rapid removal of steel I use a tormek clone wet grinder along with a few of the jigs for other sharpening jobs
  11. Plenty of life left in that chain and even if it's past the witness mark it's good for an emergency chain last ditch use chain or any dirty cuts, Many a time I've used a chain like that to finish a job if I snap a tie strap or if I hit fence wire in a tree
  12. I have a 038 and a 391 but I've used the 390 farm boss, good saws with some power I run mine on a 20" and sometimes go up to a 23" if needed and there's still plenty of grunt. I use mine for firewood but I have used it for ground work as its light enough for all day use. Check out the cylinder through the plug hole and give the handles a good look for any cracks, For 200 quid it's worth a look
  13. I've only done up to an m8 thread size in steel alu and mag-alloy all have worked and as far as I know all are still running/operational. For a spark plug I'd go to a repair shop as stated above, due to the reason gardenkit said about a misaligned thread. I have cross threaded a Briggs cylinder head and that was bad enough when refitting a spark plug
  14. nothing saw related but i broke the gearbox on my sds hammer drill well and truly knackered as the bearings have separated aswell, and my other drill is lacking in power due to the hammer piston snapping the con-rod
  15. cutting up some ten year downed oak firewood a little bit of rot further in to the trunk but well worth the effort
  16. I have the 26cc blower/vac from timberpro and I only bought it because I wouldn't justify spending four times the cost for a Stihl blower, My machine is well built and has enough power for clearing up the job site, the only problem I had was with a bit of gunk in the mesh filter of the carb which affected the power. Twenty minutes later and it was sorted, well worth the money IMHO for the work it's seen and has already paid for itself
  17. In this 40 degree heat in mid france I wear cargos and a t-shirt, shorts are a no no any time of the year for me and the chainsaw trousers only really come out if it's bloody cold out I know it's not correct but freedom of movement and safe cutting practice works for me
  18. I've had similar experiences with a 261 starting I just clean the plug once a month with a file pass over the electrode
  19. I have an app on my phone for levels and angles. I've been asked to leave stumps level for garden table bases and bird feeders, the last stump a cut was 1 and 3 degrees out of level using the bullseye level
  20. I've had my second hand husky 450 on the bench today as I have found the oil tank leaks. Found the hole just below the front bar mount, The previous owner mounted the chain incorrectly cutting through the metal plate and the plastic tank. A quick repair with liquid gasket inside and out and hopefully it will hold till I can get some more oil proof resin
  21. I know a general handyman/roofer who has magnetic cards stuck on his van under a sign that says please take one so he can carry on working when up the ladder or on a roof
  22. I've got 15 at the moment, some donations that need a bit of work to get in a useable condition and some doubles of my old saws but my primary cutters are my Ms150, 450, and the Ms661
  23. Well I've been using the small cutter on and off for about an hour, I need to fit a rubber sleeve over the metal outer tube for extra grip and fit a D handle to improve the performance/grip options of the machine during use
  24. I knocked this up tonight whilst my standard hedge cutter is in for a service and i needed something with a little better balance whilst up the laddeer/scaffold the HL95 is a good machine but a little cumbersome
  25. Home Page Not the one I mentioned but one minute on Google brings up loads of options
