  1. the only pic of todays work is the one where the MS261 was used as a wire cutter in some ash
  2. Not my first but my most memorable was this year, dropped a thin tall oak across a river mill race and it bounced in, the last tree of the day and im up to my knackers in freezing cold water trying not to fall over. I now take a full change of clothes and towels to EVERY water job i do just in case
  3. any of my customers that are unsure about the oil levels get the dipstick painted with a paint pen on the min>max marks before the mower goes back. i wipe the steel dip sticks then a blast from a jet torch to cook off the oil and a line of paint, the plastic dips get a wipe with acetone soaked cloth then painted. this saves a lot of head aches in the future and i demonstrate that the mower oil is at the correct level before the customer blames me for a seiezed engine in the future
  4. I've got a donated 61 sitting in the back of the shed, it's very tired and needs a lot of parts, I slip one part in every once in a while on my parts orders so it should get up and running at some stage but I keep thinking is it worth it for an old saw
  5. http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQsRbehROv8hRJtpromykj1w2F10vMTFtjycKge6G1LO3F3aOCqIg If fitted to the carb just remove the black pip of the solenoid and give it a try
  6. Check the fuel solenoid if fitted? And the gasket O ring of the fuel bowl,
  7. Great little saw as stated and my 200t feels like a lead brick when it's hanging from your harness instead of the 150. I keep a few chain loops in stock because not everyone stocks them and I have needed a new loop over the weekend or on a bank holiday and only one place local stocks them is shut on a Monday and closed for two hours for lunch, so it's convenience that makes me stock a few loops
  8. Has anyone got any tips on how to keep your back dry when working in a treemotion and keeping the weight down. I'm thinking either an old towel or sheepskin fleece pannel on the back padding but what do you use if anything ??, I'm thinking that a sheepskin fleece might get a bit rank in the summer but warm in the winter
  9. Ive had the 661 and 391 on the bench today just for a clean / sharpen and to grease the clutch bearings, they both had a squeek in the clutch area when sharpening so a bit of preventative maintainance with two new bearing cages and E clips on the shopping list for the next visit to the dealers
  10. I know it's not ideal but if I'm looking for a leak I put fuel in the tank as it's thinner than bar oil and will find any small holes easier it also washes the tank out. I then empty out the fuel and replace with chain oil once a repair has been sorted but any thin cleaning solvent will work just make sure that it won't melt the saw ( I don't use acetone as I have melted a strimmer tank before)
  11. I have an 038 and an ms391, a friend of mine has an ms380 All three are basically the same in overall dimensions and CCs and specs. Stihl just went up eleven numbers instead of one Also the ms250 is a homeowner saw the ms261 is a professional saw as was described to me by my dealer
  12. I have a pair of 041's, I use them in a dire emergency on the job or for cutting up old dead trunks for my fire wood. Great saws
  13. My local Stihl dealer has these shears for hire to the local communes for all the pollarding thats needed in the area. I've played with a set in the showroom but well out if my price range for the amount of pruning that I actually do
  14. Not my favourite job digging out weeds but you've done a good job I spent the afternoon strimming borders and a rubble pile, again the customer was happy and the jobs ready for the next contractor to come in with his mini digger for his new pool
  15. A good idea! I've not got the echo but I will use the same concept on my 200t
  16. A pocket dump bowl that I found in a piece of firewood, carved and sanded using only a dremel and unfinished as I'm not sure what kind of surface finish to apply, probably some kind of clear coat poly to show off the pattern
  17. My first shroom carved in oak with the 150 and sanded with a drill sander. I used a torch to colour the top and an all over coat of heavy floor wax for the finish I need more practice but I'm happy with it.
  18. I have the stihl long reach trimmer ( smaller engine size ) and I've had no problems with it, we'll worth the money . I have also removed the trimmer head to fit a chain saw head, strimmer head and brush cutter head as I have no need for the other split shaft accessories. A long reach trimmer and a pro adjustable ladder can handle most of the jobs I encounter
  19. I've also got a stihl ms250 on the bench not running correctly. I've never seen a stripy piston wall before? any ideas on a possible cause before i strip off the cylinder head to check the rings it does squeek a lot when it does run ??
  20. I've got a cheap PRC topper on the bench that I'm converting to run on the Stihl 1/4" chain. I've basically doubled the value of the saw by putting the Stihl guide bar, clutch and sprocket on it. All I have to do now is either get a longer chain or drill a new tensioner hole in the guide bar and the side cover can go on and give it a whirl
  21. It has made a difference but exactly how much is unknown yet. I'm going to be using it this afternoon so I will respond later I will say that the exhaust note is louder and more mellow and pickup seems faster. I will admit that I didn't make any comparisons before and after the work was completed
  22. I've been thinking about getting a new big topper(xp540 or 201) so I went to see my local echo dealer after reading the rave reviews on here about the new little saw just to have a look and check the quality , I think I'll be saving for the 201 with the electronics rather than the echo range There was excessive moulding flash on all edges and the saws looked and felt cheap, just my opinion but then I am a confirmed stihl snob
  23. Not a problem it's not copyrighted, I think I have a different exhaust than the one I saw in the youtube video which had a spark arrester in it I think? ?
  24. jus a pic of the ms150 exhaust mod i did yesterday removed the exhaust and used the dremel for the cuts and a screwdriver to open the louvres
