  1. First time i picked up a chainsaw the boss told me to prime it 1st....spent 10mins trying to find the primer bubble....then clicked my chain was being pulled
  2. Yip- wot he said...driving with trailer/chipper
  3. Use both ends of the rope to advance ie pull the end of your rope up to where your tied in (with your lanyard) throw your rope ahead ascend to that point lanyard in,pull up other end of rope throw ahead etc till you get high enough to get to a t.i.p that gives you the access you require around the tree. You will have to carry a prussik loop to use on the end of your rope when advancing the working end(spliced end) of the rope.Hope that made sense. This technic is used when the tree is taller than the length of rope your using. Didnt you get shown this on your cs38???
  4. Nice work pascal, that aruba job looked sweeeeeet!

Hey all, Ive had a little ms180 for about 9 years,it gets little use nowadays so my plan is to do an exhaust/muffler(if your north american) modification on it to up the power, just too see how much i can get.If its a decent result i might look at modifying a larger saw, maybe ms261. My question is just how difficult is it ? Whats entailed? Im pretty mechanically minded so im capable(i hope) The 180 has no carb adjustment so is it possible just to mod the exhaust??? Thanks for all replies and advice in advance folks
  8. Gladiators, the grey ones in the middle.Miles ahead of anything else ive worn.Pricey though
  9. Stihl do an advance cut protection jacket but its over 200quid. I have the stihl economy jacket and some of the squad have the xfit, both expensive and both shite. Husky jackets are better imo
  10. Or buy chainsaw sleeves
  11. Bat perhaps mick? Is that the stihl economy jacket
  12. Hi and welcome to the forum mate,i came into tree work quite late in my career, many years as a gardener/groundsman. Climbing is the best job in the world imo, cold dry days in tree saw in hand...top of the world. Good luck-you"ll get loads of advice on these forums from experienced and knowledgeable people.
  13. No cut protection on the ergo jacket.
  14. Thats saws been around for a while. stihl say it wont go into Volume production but the knowledge gained during its development and testing will go into optimizing future stihl products. Carbon fibre Looks good though:thumbup1:
  15. Well said! ive saved my myself a fortune yesterday by buying bugger all
  16. Sniper towers, razor wire, snarling alsatians achtung achtung schnell!!!!
  17. Working for my local council all purchases would have to go through my H.O.D, i seriously doubt he would go for it. Pretty good idea though,i can picture wot your describing in my head.
  18. Surprised at that, when my employers sub contract tree work out its to save themselves money and try to cut corners. Glad your LA seem to putting safety before savings Good luck with the limes, have they pollarded before?
  19. I would hope common sense prevails and the council close the road for you, however i know the council have to pay to have road/lane closures and i presume you are sub contractor so i think your on too plums my good man as in my experience the road closure would not have been costed in to the job.
  20. When you ve got 12 limes to pollard in a morning shift, being able to break down and reset safe work zones quickly is imperative in maintaining good productivity. Hence we use cones, warning tape and banksmen etc
  21. Hi arnold, welcome to the forum.Ive got some experience with the stihl 251,it wasnt the cbe but the predecessor to it. I ran a 16"bar on it for a day cutting down some spruce on a farmers land for him.Its the top end of the homeowners saws and as such its an ok little saw. If your using it for logs and the odd small job id say yeah fine with a 14 or 16 bar.It pulls about 3bhp so its not the gruntiest saw but there are some other saws probably cheaper that will give you more power. Check out some threads on here for echo saws, ive no personal experience with them but ive heard good things. Good luck
  22. Try whole shallots in the stew jon its deeeilsh!
  23. Being verbally abused aint and never will be part of my job description bud,the sad thing is -for you and probably many others on this forum-you've taken abuse so long you think it comes part and parcel with the job. Why should i be abused for putting safety measures into place to prevent people who are otherwise too lazy or stupid from being injured. Although im relativley new to tree work im 43,so im too long in the tooth for the 'joe public will take a giant crap on you'mantra,i know this full well, being a council worker i know how badly the public can behave when confronted with a coned off work area and a perfectly polite banksman directing them around the danger zone. Personally i couldnt give a toss what the person on the street or in there car thinks of me,im just the guy who's tryin to keep them safe,if only they would recognise that. I appreciate your thoughts and views on this, after all thats why i started this thread. Too each his own and all that
  24. Ahhhh...a moment of clarity.thanks :thumbup1:joe
  25. If the ART positioner has a swivel, why would you need a swivel on the biner? Ive never used the ART so maybe im being as dumb as a bag of hammers-can someone explain it to me...
