  1. Weve all had moments in trees,4th day on my cs38,i couldnt climb just kinda froze,no energy no drive, dont know if i was scared tbh just knew i couldnt ascend any higher that day. Luckily the instructor clicked on and came up to reassure me. I never had a problem since, but ive only been climbing 5 years so ive still got some way to go. Some really interesting, funny snd porkie pie stories on this thread.Glad i found it
  2. Yip,put a sugihara bar on it,goes like a demon.Pains me to admit it (being a stihl man for so long) but i cant fault the 540
  3. I totally agree, today was manual handling and customer care.Complete waste of a day, tomorrow is working at height-which is an absolute joke as im a climber and have done this on several courses, and first aid, again a waste of time as im an advanced first aider.Seems to me the CPC is just a way of conning companies ( except bus/coach and lorry of coarse) out of money.I thought it was to promote safer driving-from the comfort of a classroom of course!
  4. Look closely at all chainsaws and eventually you'll find faults with all of them.Having used stihsl in a work environment for years i went out and bought a t540xp for subbie work.Think thats all i have to say.You will however get lots of advice on this from other members -who will-condem/promote all makes and models, which no doubt will leave you more confused and undecided than when you started.Good luck
  5. Neither...husky 540xp.Also heard good things about echo but never used one myself.
  6. Great idea.Im onboard.i know a couple in Scotland who are excellent
  7. Maybe the trees to be pollarded, allowing spikes to be worn around the limbs that are to be removed. You can also buy pruning spikes that can be worn in tree even if the tree is not to be removed/felled.
  8. Maybe im not understanding this right but wouldnt that mean the 2 ascenders being so close to each other that you would be limited to taking baby steps up the rope
  9. Is this what you mean ? Youtube kiwi klimbers spikesender.cant upload the link, sorry.do check it out very clever
  10. You can get decent trousers relativley cheap,i wouldnt spend a fortune if your only wearing them a couple of hours per week. I dont see the point in chainsaw cut proof gloves really, just get something with a good grip.
  11. Agreed
  12. I attended my first module of CPC course today.Same thing exactly, some non attendees getting modular credit for not attending because they have course credit in another discipline.I dont understand it at all
  13. Lantra would still be my recomended first point of contact as they are the course providers not the assessing body. That would be NPTC assessors
  14. Contact the local tree officer via the council. The TO will steer you in the right direction with regards to the tree being TPO'd or if its a conservation/sssi area. I wouldnt just go for it
  15. I know what you mean but, maybe confronting the trainer would end in tears(ie his)maybe best left to lantra to deal with the assessor instead
  16. If you feel agrieved first port of call is Lantra,a strongly worded email might highlight your complaint. Second to that is not to use that instructor again. If it was me id request a days training -free of charge-to teach your guys what they should have been taught in the first place. Im pretty sure the dogtooth/plunge cut is mandatory as used for forward leaning trees, certainly was at my assesment. Good luck
  17. Dont care i gave up
  18. FFS! I give up.....im out
  19. 3 words- cant afford it -that is all!
  20. So buy a waterproof then-but not the smok as its NOT MEANT TO BE WATERPROOF
  21. Common sense prevails
  22. Yeah i did, although the trainer said its mostly loggers in north america use it.Ive used it in tree in the past
  23. Number 2 training is part of the cs38-how to poo in a bag whilst up a tree dont u know ha!
  24. Oh and yeah green houses are a pain in the arse, however you can charge extra though for rigging it out rather than a straight cut and chuck
  25. Jesus mate be extra careful, your giving me the fear! Im not against people making a couple of quid doin tree work but get yourself some training,it opens your eyes to how dangerous arboriculture is.You say climb as high as i dare and judge the weight if the bit to be lobbed, you dont instill confidence in me.Indeed we all had to learn, and ive had my share of **** your pants moments but its the training that gives you the knowledge to deal with these issues.Be careful please
