  1. Has anyone thought maybe your the annoying workmate-its just occured to me!
  2. Hi scotspine yeah they do for the big trees and when theres a lot of storm damage.Theyve used quite a lot of local companies over the years im told.I cant really say on an open forum though mate but its the larger ones in the area im sure you ll work it out by that comment
  3. TBF it didnt require to be balanced out but if he did that it would have said to me he gave a toss about trees and his customers. But yeah purely aesthetics
  4. Clearly they havent done there CPC course
  5. If the guy knew anything about tree work he would have made proper pruning cuts and perhaps removed lower branches on other side of the tree to balance it out.
  6. He was working for the lady with the tree in her garden so cutting the branches back to the bark collar should have been done. And yeah it was there haha cheers for your input mate
  7. I can fit taps but id have too charge you for travelling to quote you, insurance and 101 other running costs
  8. I was waiting on you weighing in on this steve.Whats ur opinion?
  9. Agreed:thumbup1: Nice saw- im jelous!
  10. Do the job right or dont do it at all imo
  11. Ive lost count the amount of times one of our squad has done a 5 minute job for an elderly person, mist times they just want a chat, maybe your the only person they ll speak to all day.Give a bit back when you can.i agree with you 100% harvey
  12. I have no idea eggs,im lucky enough to work for my LA,but maybe not for long the way the cuts are going this year, but i would say 40 quid max to do the job properly.I realise people have overheads but too me its about giving something no and again. As i said ive no problem with geniune people making s living but i know the guy would have charged me less if it was my door he chapped,he took advantage of a pensioner,if he didnt fancy it-walk away
  13. Yeah your right mick,i also have morals and couldnt rip anyone off just to make a couple of quid
  14. Job wasnt quoted guy just turned up and set about the tree
  15. You ve restored my faith in humanity thank you
  16. Dont come down to glasgow then mate ha! Were all skinflints!
  17. I think its prudent to remember i work in Scotland so its the norm for garden/tree work to be 10-15% cheaper than down south where you guys ply your trade.
  18. Tetradium danielli has smooth beech tree like bark, where as this specimen looks as though the bark is rough or a fissured texture. Also the leaves barley change colour in the autumn only going to a slight yellow, where as this tree seems to be going through a really noticable change in colour. If it had berries on it i would be more inclined to agree with you to its ID.
  19. Just because someone is old doesnt mean theyre bonkers or deserve to be ripped of,would you be happy if it was your mother being done over for half her pension for 2 mins work
  20. 50 is not acceptable for 5 little branches even if he trimmed back to the bark collar, removed cuttings, fired them through the chipper and tidied the area after, none of which he did.
  21. Holy crap-seriously? I had no idea it was that bad. Glad i work for my LA
  22. Hey all, Could'nt quite believe what i was being told today-hence the title of the thread. So anyway we were out cutting back branches overhanging a public path with pole pruners when the elderly lady in the gable end property came out to speak to us,turns out she was the one who had phoned in the job to the local authority. She was in her 80's and was obviously quite lonely as she was more than keen to chit chat to myself and the rest of the boys. Several cups of tea and what seemed to be an endless supply of choccy biscuits later she told us a story of "That wee tree in ma garden". Shes got a small cedar in her back garden that had some branches over hanging her neighbours property, much to the annoyance of the neighbour. After much protestations from the neighbour she asked a local "gardener"to come and remove the branches, trusting the guy as he was recommended to her by a friend. This plonker turns up,bow saws off 5 branches-at the exact point where the branch crosses the boundery line and charges her 50 quid! 10 quid per branch,he then tells her he cant take the branches away as technically the branches belonged to her neighbour because the hung over her property.Neighbour returns too see 5 branches dumped in her garden,a butchered tree and a neighbour 50 quid down! WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE ?everyone has to make a living but to blatantly rip off pensioners is despicable. I was utterly shocked at this guys actions Unbelievable...yet sadly believable
  23. Mega wet in glasgow today, then again thats the norm here. Thanks jon
  24. We sometimes use 044's and you can feel the difference in havs when going back to the newer saws with all the anti vibration technology on them. Its a brave man who would use an 076 all day thats for sure mick
  25. Yeah its the lack of fruiting clusters thats got me doubting your ID,im no expert just flicking through some books and putting up some species that match the photographic profile.
