  1. We have been hammering the Ash for the last 2 years now. Some sites are just showing first signs, some are full of dead rotten dangerous trees! It’s everywhere here, rarely see a healthy one. Heart breaking really. I think it’s only a matter of time before someone is killed or seriously injured whilst felling them. Be extra careful, some that still look reasonable have been very bad. Hitting wedges is a big no no, shock loading is a very bad idea! We have a few estates now stating to take the risk near paths and road a bit more seriously, but many aren’t.
  2. Makita have known about this for over a year. A colleague of mine has had several demo saws from our local rep which 3 or 4 broke within a small amount of time and got sent back. The rep was reporting the issue to deaf ears by the sounds of it. Seems like they are doing something about it now. I think it is all down to the chainbrake spring being too strong and putting too much stress on the linkage and brake band as both of them seem to brake quite often.
  3. The chain on my (and others) 560 is striking the clutch drum, which is dulling one side of the chain and making it cut bananas!
  4. Yes of course! Apologies I wasn’t thinking straight, Sunday night etc. Will PM you now. Cheers.
  5. Hi Sounds like it would be something we could take on. Would you like to PM me their details? Cheers Simon
  6. I should also add, my colleague with the same problem has tried new clutch drum, sprocket, bar and chain. But it’s still happening!
  7. Have had a chance to use the 560 last week. Had it apart and the chain is hitting the clutch drum. Changed out the drive sprocket, but it didn’t cure the problem. Anyone got any ideas how to stop it happening? It’s driving me mad!
  8. I’ve had the same happen to my 560, and a colleague too! Haven’t have time to cure the problem as been in big timber for so long. Will have a check for a conical rim sprocket
  9. Yep, definitely some good improvements to be had, they pull damn hard! Really is the best hardwood saw going imo Another weak point is the air filter. The fleece one doesn’t breath well enough, the nylon one breaths great but let’s through way to much fines. It’s well worth the HD conversion kits from USA.
  10. Great hardwood saw with lots of torque. I usually run mine on 20” or 24”, I’m impressed it can pull 36”! I’ve gone through 3 brake bands and a brake linkage within the last year. I think the spring is too strong so puts a lot of force through when activated.
  11. Same thing happens with 346xp. Don’t know why. 7900 is a great saw except this and the chain brake!
  12. Yes, have the same problem. Need to use the combi spanner to undo oil cap every fill. Haven’t cracked it yet though. The caps from a Husky 560 fit, but still get tight.
  13. Bit far for me to drop it off, I’m just South of Newbury. You’re welcome to pick it up, or can box it and post it. PM me if you like
  14. I’ve got one you can have. Where abouts are you?
  15. Wow 6’8” I understand why you’re having trouble finding something to fit! Can’t be much out there you can comfortably fit in. Good luck
  16. I’m 6’3” and find it has plenty of room. You get a lot of car for the money too. Low range box and ELSDs. Mine is a 2005 so an older shape than the current one.
  17. I’m running a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Has a 3lt V6 Mercedes Diesel engine. Has been surprisingly very good off road and plenty of grunt (I don’t have any experience towing with it). Might be worth a look for you? Again, most likely just been used on school runs etc and not worked hard.
  18. The easiest way is the chin strap. But climbing helmets are like rock climbing helmets with side impact protection.
  19. AC Balance is all you need. No fuss. And don’t wear your climbing helmet cutting in the woods, it’s not what they are designed for and you look a complete bell end!
  20. I run my spuderised 346 on 16” 3/8. Great little saw always a joy to use. But once I’m at bar length stuff I’m straight on the 372 to keep production up. As mentioned above, if your willing to send to America you could get more from it.
  21. We went on the Saturday and the weather was excellent. Was still a bit muddy in places from the previous days rain, but at least we didn't get the car stuck!
  22. It does cut faster than standard as it's effectively geared up.... but, it bogs down easier. So long as the revs stay high it cuts faster. I have used a 550 with 13" 3/8 8tooth and it cuts incredibly quickly, but bogs very easily in bar length timber, thus loosing the speed gains. For small diameter stuff it's amazingly quick though. Don't know about racing a 660, but feel free to try it out, make a video and post it.
  23. https://www.clarkforest.com/shop/chainsaw/chainsaw-sprockets-3-8/chainsaw-sprocket-3-8-small-7-7
  24. As long as you find a small spline sprocket. It's just sprocket, bar and chain.
  25. Clarks do small spline 3/8 rims. But only 7 tooth. If you want 8 then you need the clutch drum with the standard spline. 550 handles 3/8 pretty well on 15". Will be fine in Oak.
