    Really good question. I think £80000 to £90000 company profit can be made with a team of 2 with one member being the owner/main climber. So if owner comes of the tools to run the business then probably one team of two should be making a profit of £40000 to £50000 and then times that by how many teams you have. So I would think that you would really need at least 3 teams to start making more money then if you just went out on your own.

    Question to ask whether you guys do much freelancing with the loader to other firms. As work is a bit slow just looking at other ways to bring in money. Also what kind of money do you think is fair. I had £400 in mind for me and the loader.

    Not uncommon now to do away with broadband completely and just use the data on your mobile phone if you have an unlimited data sim to run eveything in your house that need wifi. Of course it might not work for everyone but worth a look

    Sky the biggest rip off there is. I know a few people that pay over £120 and thats not even the whole package and you have to pay extra to use in different rooms. I was explaining that its far cheaper to use Now for everything Sky as there are always deals and you can pay as you go. I once got sky entertainment and movies on Now for £90 for the whole year.

    Has anyone's work improved. I have only 5 days booked in for this month and two in May. Hoping that sun out means more phone calls but I don't feel very confident that it will get much better.

    90% sure its a Wingnut. Going to get the app next that can id any plant or tree from a photo. Think there is a yearly cost but would be a real help with id and also help with my latin which I really struggle with at College.

    Used this company for the first time to sharpen some greenmech blades and have to say what a brilliant service. A week turn around and half the price to what I have paided in the past. Came back razor sharp and well packaged. Think I will try the blades when I need to replace.

    Thank you for having a look. Sorry its not a great picture but sent by the client. I was thinking a Wingnut or Bean tree. I was sent another picture. The tree in the background is a Hawthorn. Think the tree stands at around 5m tall with a 4m spread.

    £20000 will just about get you a euro 6 tipper. Plus chipper, saws, climbing and rig kit etc. Insurance. Chainsaw tickets Rent somewhere to keep the gear. I'm not saying you couldn't start with £20000 but even that is a lot of money to find. Unfortunately this is not a cheap industry to start up in.

    Don't think you can say that start up cost are low anymore. I would imagine you need at least £30000 to make a go of it if you're working near any city's that have ulez. Good contact climbers can make more money then some company owners with much less stress.

    The 1.9l engine in the Isuzu pulls better then the 2.5l I had in the cabstar. Also it might come down to stock. I had a wait of 6 months for mine without an option of the bigger engine one that year.

    I have the 125 and have to say that I have found no problem with a full load and towing a chipper. Manual gears which seem fine. Have to say I think so far its a brilliant tree wagon. Had a Nissan cabstar before which I loved and would have kept apart from the ulez but now glad I made the change.

    I think you are out of touch. Have you seen the quality of work and safety standards of some of the firms, (easy to find by doing a surprise site visits or even looking at their Instagram pages). You would not be recommending your clients to take a chance on the aa website. Every low life freelancer climber knows a firm that's aa approved that should not be. I'm not anti the scheme but you need to take responsibility of what the firms are doing after the one day assessment, not just when they need to renew. It also sounds from what you said that it's turning into an old boys school.

    If you have money its really easy to become aa approved. You can pay that guy Paul who writes really informative articles for the aa magazine to fill out all your forms. You can then pay a freelance climber that Paul speaks so highly about to get you a pass on assessment day as you sit back and watch from the side lines. Once you get your new stickers you can then go back to working how you did before with no accountability to anyone. On a serious note once you have passed it should open doors for more work as said by the above so can be positive more forward for any company that wants to grow.

    Had January booked before Xmas which was a good way to start the year but at present going week to week with just about enough work. Only getting a few calls a week but fortunately most turn into a job. I remember a time where I would be booked till Easter at this time of the year. It seems to get quieter each year. On a positive note been a beautiful day out in the sun.

    I've got both and use them loads, but probably because I normally work as a two man team so who ever climbs can lower the timber themselves. I find for smaller branches that a good trick is to use the 120kg wrench without the wench part engaged as you can easily pull up on the pulley but have the added friction of the pulley locking when you lower. Then as the loads get heavy just contact the wrench put up. Used then with the GRCS on a job where we winched timber over a wall but had to take the rope off the GRCS to walk around the wall and lower into the truck. We only had to do this because we were working at a two man team but it work fine.

    Help would be much appreciated. Looked at the above tree this weekend and unfortunately 1/3 of the crown has died. There seems to be a black liquid running down from the limb that has died. The tree is in the front garden next to a stream. Can anyone help with identifying what is wrong. Thanks in advance

    I have 36m of Cousin atrax that I use for SRT on smaller trees or fells and works fine and is a lovely rope to use with the zigzag on drt.

    Marlow Vega is an 11.7mm CE EN1891, UKCA certified rope whilst being compliant with ANSI Z133. This light weight arborist climbing rope, currently boasts the lowest elongation on the market (1.2%). Has anyone tried the rope above to use for drt and srt. Comes with a splice end and has a lower elongated then xstatic. I also use Xstatic but only climb SRT these days.
