  1. And you can be pretty certain what the verdict would be if you asked them to inspect a tree.
  2. I posted this guys stuff before from Twitter. Very pro Ukraine for reference, but makes interesting points.
  3. Seems to me you threw that job away, very careless! If they wanted grinding YOU give them a quote, don’t get three others involved, giving the client the names and numbers of 3 other tree firms. They pinched it right under your nose, and you opened the door!
  4. Getting back to your first post, horticulture is not arboriculture, they often get lumped together. Mowing lawns, weeding beds, planting and spraying are low skill tasks, people pay you to do them because they don’t want to do them or haven’t the time to do it themselves, the equipment needed is cheap and often the clients have it themselves for you to use (I know, I’ve done it) Taking down or trimming trees is different, people pay you to do it because they CAN’T do it themselves, there is also risk (both to life and property) and the machinery is expensive and needs to be transported to site, and often large quantities of waste needs to be removed. The jobs are often one-offs (not once a week) so filling the diary is harder. So the money in trees is much higher. I’ve no interest in the National Trust thing, if you don’t like It, don’t do it.
  5. Well it is in the UK, if you don’t like the money get another job. Plenty about atm.
  6. Some on Twitter speculating just that. Sacrificing ten others to achieve that is a bit cold mind.
  7. Wow! It amazes me that he flew his personal plane near Moscow, he must have imagined he’d likely be a target.
  8. Reminds me of the great Emo Phillips joke.
  9. Yes, untenable to work all day in that. Trying to slot in the easy/finish by lunchtime jobs, putting off the all-day ones. Sleeping at night is the hardest bit.
  10. It’s not that they turned a blind eye, they didn’t know she was killing babies. They didn’t have procedures in place or they couldn’t believe it was down to her. They are culpable but not of murder. I don’t know how to absorb these cases, they make no sense, why did she do it? What kind of neurons in her brain got so misdirected that a woman would do this? I find these things exasperating, can’t compute if you know what I mean. https://twitter.com/Gillian_Philip/status/1692809681784160422?s=20
  11. The other aspect of the job I noticed was the machine was flattening the trees, flailing it a bit but perhaps not killing it. The uneven nature of the terrain would not have helped. IME with my flail on thin stuff you have to really be sure to get to where it comes out of the ground otherwise you just strip the upper side.
  12. Not sure that was showing the machine in the best light. What would the alternative method be, clearing saws and blades?
  13. Frankly I was rather insulted to be mentioned (as Mountain Man) to be in the same sentence as that bloke. It was like he’d just discovered the internet.
  14. It also means you have to hear what people say, whether you like it or not, and you don’t get to punch them in the face.
  15. Comical really. A photo found in a file somewhere.
