  1. You’re not making any sense.
  2. I suppose the closer one gets to your expected life span (say 80 years) the less you feel you’ve been short changed if you die, you’re getting your money’s worth so to speak. Whereas, as a younger man, with seemingly endless years ahead, the idea of death was terrifying. Dunno, ask me on my Deathbed!
  3. As Woody Allen said ‘I’m not scared of dying, I just don’t want to be there when it happens’
  4. Do you think a dog like that is suitable for your situation?
  5. I think people are pissed off with living too long. They get to 75 or whatever and think ‘that’s enough of that, pass the whisky for my cornflakes, I don’t give a toss anymore’
  6. He’s using the ‘safety squint’
  7. Just recut it to previous.
  8. How long have you been doing it?
  9. Roof needs a bit more jiggery-pokery, but she’s done, and ready for work tomorrow. it was 6k to do it professionally. My brother volunteered to do it with my, and my groundy’s, help. total cost 2k plus time etc. But we had a laugh and learnt some stuff, so all good.
  10. He’s on FB, posted three days ago.
  11. If water is going in the air intake, it’s curtains anyway surely?
  12. I was born in 63, so grew up in the 70s, 25 years after the end of the Second World War (think 1999 to now for perspective) Anti German sentiment was widespread and accepted. Men like Beckenbauer and the West German football team with players like Muller, Gunter Netzer, Paul Brietner certainly helped us view the Germans more as people like us rather than pantomime villains. They didn’t have to keep winning titles though!
  13. Franz Beckenbauer. A personal hero, oozed class, magnificent player and man.

If you’re going to smash a fence, do it early on. It’s done then and you can finish the job easier, knowing you can’t break it twice.

I can’t work it out, but the cry of anger/fear is real enough.

If you were from West Sussex I could give you a few names. You’ll have to do some networking..

Back in the 90s in southern England most tree guys did fencing as a sideline, often through felling and splitting sweet chestnut as a filler, I did a bit with some guys, it’s not something you can pick up to professional level in a few days (certainly I couldn’t) I would just sub it in for a while and see if any of your guys enjoy straight lines and digging holes.
  19. Yeah, that sounds interesting.
  20. You sort of have to understand the context. Its in the comments section of a Facebook post about Joey Barton’s opinions on women footballers doing punditry on men’s games, calling them ‘The Fred and Rose west of commentary’
  21. Rather climb than rake that lot up!
  22. Been thinking about this and I think it warrants enlarging on. I realised a few years or so ago that where I am, business wise, is pretty much where I’ll finish, a small but well equipped one gang outfit. I’m not going to take over the world, but I won’t be delivering pizzas on a council funded mobility scooter. So at 60, with 2/3 years left in business I realise that I no longer have to abase myself to clients, or even worry about pissing the odd (irritating or unreasonable) one off or turning down work, a few people bad-mouthing me won’t undo the nearly 2 decades of work here in France. I still advertise, I’m still looking for new clients and I still sell hard when I’m pricing, but with this age there’s been a shift in my attitude.
