  1. The brakes are an eye opener for sure (to coin a phrase!) Thanks for the link.
  2. I remember many many years ago I had a lesson in school in Home Economics or some such. Anyway the teacher explained about buying a washing machine on finance, interest rates, payment schedules etc. It was the first time I saw how mathematics operated in real life.
  3. Fair play Goaty. In reply to Richard1234. Maths and English are basic life skills, kids should pushed and pushed and pushed in the basics. I'm on an American forum as well as here, I've noticed how much better the level of written English is compared to on here. If you take the mickey out of someone for a comical error they don't start screaming about bullying or being judgemental. It's not about passing exams, it's about basic competence in the core subjects. No one wants miserable kids but no one wants ill equipped youngsters poorly educated on the altar of "happiness"
  4. Log book says '78, certainly after '75 'cos it's electric start. Bit of a grey area as its imported from the UK. As for the pipes, I want to keep it standard.
  5. Thing is, life and education are about working on your weaknesses, so if someone's handwriting/literacy skills are poor but they're good at say, mechanics then they should be pushed to improve their literacy. Just because one is not very good at something useful, like maths, writing, languages doesn't mean they should be allowed to drop it.
  6. Dunno, not sure, seems like a long way.....
  7. Can someone please sort out this crazy picture size thing so I can get back to moaning about the calendar.
  8. Jonny, the seeding process is open, it's calculated with results in qualification and competitions. It's nothing to do with opinion or being bent.
  9. Painful to watch as ever, but an away win against nominally the second strongest side in the group, can't complain.
  10. Alright, this thread has officially disappeared up its own rear end.
  11. Keith Vaz 'paid for male escorts', Sunday Mirror claims - BBC News This guy has always struck me as rather publicity hungry. Be careful what you wish for I guess.
  12. You've let your wife down, embarrassed her in front of her colleagues, then come on here bragging about it for giggles and attention, under the pretext of asking for support.
  13. Funny you mention this. I have a couple of these engines, one in a TW and one in an ST8. Now I'm sure I used to get a copper washer with the TW oil filter up to a few years ago. Then they stopped....I think! The Forst didn't have one...I think! but neither leak. Take out the plug, save the oil, clean it up, and the thread in the sump and try again. I am a thread stripper of some repute, so I understand your angst.
  14. It's a lot tougher for youngsters today than when I was young (I'm 52) Not least because they get lied to about the usefulness of the various courses they get placed on.
  15. Personally the hardest job I ever did was working in a brickyard making bricks.
  16. More importantly though 100% of his peers, subbies and employees would have known.
  17. Ross Malone from kilmarnock was the original poster, not difficult for everyone in the tree game in the area to figure out who he's talking about. That he came on here to defend himself was understandable.
  18. I'd be really annoyed (to say the least) if this was my business that was being discussed and my pay rates pored over by all and sundry.
  19. Ok, I jumped through the necessary hoops to read the article. I have the husky and like it, the "time out" feature is annoying. Never used the Makita, sounds ok though. Do either of these saws ever kick back? I've never experienced it.
