When it’s big I’ll bring out the hardware no bother, I’ve got rigging rings, RC3000, all that jazz! if it’s light and easy I’ll natural crotch rig and self lower, often using the tail end of my climbing line if it’s really light.

I guess it all depends. If you “snub” it as the yanks say, meaning holding the piece on the rope without running It I don’t thing you can beat self lowering with stubs. Do the wraps (without pinching the line) cut it, stow the saw, let it settle, then take off the wraps till you’ve good control of the piece, lower towards the groundy ensuring they communicate properly about what they want you to do with it ie. “Lower/hold” is a joy to do.

I looked into that on my single roller TW many years ago, was too much to change, hopper wouldn’t match the roller box, hydraulics etc.

It’s a self sown tree that’s grown out of a hedge by the look of it, been flailed and hammered numerous times, look at the base, multiple stems. It’s not a pretty job but it’ll come back strongly. They just got bored pulling ivy off, the story about it damaging bark is lies. I doubt they poisoned it either, probably best they didn’t. Emerald ash borer in the states is really bad apparently. Up to you in the end, I’d do a proper job and pollard it lower and try to make a decent shape of it. -
Yes, not worth a lot, 2.5k max, the single roller is a big down point, as openspaceman says, hang on to it for a while, then move it on once you’re confident of the new machine or keep it as back up.

The trouble with get little cheap stuff to tide you over till you can afford the bigger stuff is that it holds you back without realising it. Get yourself a good 30+ hp 6’’ minimum chipper, then you’re in business, otherwise you’re just a gardener.
