  1. I have always found them rather proud of it. I met one in a French bar, called him a monkey hanger, he was happy that his little town was so famous, this was before I spoke much French so my BiL explained the story to the locals, the French considèred it hilarious.
  2. Wake up, it’s happening sheeple!
  3. By any standards, that the UK has the most deaths, especially considering how it had longer to prepare and act than France, Italy and Germany is a poor result.
  4. Médiéval days the iron industry in Sussex and Kent used Hornbeam for the furnaces because it was excellent for heat etc.
  5. Bloody hell! Looks like you’ve been busy.
  6. I use the loop of a carters hitch with a twig to keep it in place.
  7. I keep looking at this thread and thinking ‘that’s the clearest picture of a beech possible’ A walnut? if it is then it’s name should be ‘The absolutely identical to a beech, walnut’
  8. What are temperatures like there now @Alex O?
  9. Fixings, concrete, digger hire, it all adds up, never mind the labour.
  10. I’ve seen your stuff Mark, you know what you’re doing, why would reducing oaks be beyond the pale?
  11. Not your bag? What is your bag baby?
  12. We’ll do it retrospectively, I can’t see it being an issue, rural France is being depopulated for demographic reasons, even in the 15 years we’ve been here, I’ve noticed the desertification of the hamlets and small villages. Old people dying and no one wanting their houses, so they fall into disrepair and collapse.
  13. Thanks, he’s a cabinet maker by trade, we sort of made it up as we went along. He's not a man of many words but he’s quite proud of it.
  14. We (the hired man and me, well mostly him tbh) built this during lockdown A carport for me and the wife’s cars, been talking about it for years, no excuses now. Total cost of materials around 5k Rather pleased with it.
  15. Yes, only done a few though. Poisoning straight after felling is my SOP on those. Then grinding once you’re sure it’s perished.
  16. Probably due to a recently cut down specimen in the locality.
  17. What’s that? More pictures you say? Well ok then..
