  1. What’s the thing where they’ll deduct 20% off your invoice on work done on a building site unless you have it? Edit. Eggs just answered it.
  2. I agree, hidden employment is an issue, not throwing any stones, I’ve been guilty of it myself, it’s one the building trade addressed with the cs card scheme (or whatever it’s called) Not so easy to address in arb where people are going to different sites every day.
  3. One that I have read often is ‘we don’t get the recognition for the work we do’ or ‘unless we do A or B, this industry will never get taken seriously’ Well, so what? You get paid, if you want appreciation be a nurse or a copper what is it you’re missing? Respect at the burger van from scaffolders? As it goes it’s not an unusual occurrence to come down from a tree to a round of applause, but maybe that’s just me.
  4. Sorry for the pompous title. This may get traction or it may die a death. There’s a lot of talk about this sort of thing without really pinning down if they are real problems or just personal gripes. So let’s try and identify specific issues and think if there’s any answers. All levels of experience and competence welcome, especially younger, newer entrants to the job, your views are as, if not, more important than those of us on the home straight working wise.
  5. No need to sound surprised I had a good idea! Some of the issues (that I imagine will come up) are some of the great things about the job.
  6. Can we have a list of ‘the issues we face as an industry’ please?
  7. Well, there are better peeps than pan me to diagnose, but I’ll start.. A petrol engine like that it’s either spark or fuel. Have you checked the plugs for a spark?
  8. @AA Teccie (Paul) Why not just show him this thread?
  9. Post a video.
  10. Ha! I thought it, you said it Rich. Prolly a little angrier than necessary but spot on nevertheless.
  11. What do they say about it?
  12. How old are you?
  13. The poor today are infinitely better off than the poor in the 70s
  14. There’s a mindset where getting richer and more comfortable every year is seen as a human right. We will have to get used to a bit more more snakes and ladders in our living standards as the global population booms and resources diminish.
  15. Operators of what?
  16. Good point!
  17. Maybe so, maybe no. If they don’t move at all it can deceive you.
  18. Spray wd40 on the window, sometimes they get stuck.
  19. 1: I have found derision and insulting behavior as a default setting works best, an occasional ‘you surprised me there by not bollocking that up!’ Can really send spirits soaring. 2: Be Professional. Not taking drugs and taking a crap BEFORE you come to work is a start. 3: Good luck with that. 4: No one wants to survey trees for utilities. 5: Going down the pub on a Friday after work with a pocketful of fifties, smelling like a bin dipping raccoon, having the good grace to chop up a couple of lines in the bogs for the impoverished youngsters is all that’s needed to convince the yoof you’re a man of substance and inspire the next generation to follow your lead.
  20. So, one has to pitch why one wants the prize in the short conversation?
  21. So, to be clear, is the winner picked at random, or do you decide who is worthy?
  22. 1.5 tonne digger struggles with a bamboo ‘carpet’ need a 2.5 tonne ideally. I’ve long since turned down all bamboo work. Walk away.
  23. I put it down to gravity.
  24. I was trying to keep it clean.
