I’ve been giving this lots of consideration of late, as I’ll be ordering my Logbullet soon. ive settled on a tri axle Ifor, but got good feedback and recommendation from Big J about Meredith and Eyre. I approached them for a quote and they swiftly replied with all the details. The resale on the Ifor was one of th big considerations. Apparently the one I’m looking to order is not that common and a beast of a trailer (one of the salesman said that) so should hold its value. -

Echoing the words of others.... Grafter has a decent turning circle and is quite manoeuvrable for domestic type work. The one I've driven a fair bit requires constant attention to steering though. Bit like steering a ship perhaps.... Not sure if they're all like that though. It has a very bouncy ride, particularly effective if you want your passengers to nod off! And yes, quite thirsty but they all are when loaded to the hilt with chip and towing. But pretty reliable on the whole, and does the job. Spent a lot of years using a transit and still rate them, even though they get a bad press.

I had a pair of Haix Protector Ultras resolved by Altberg as they are quite literally just up the road from me (Richmond, North Yorkshire) Paid about £45/50 ish. Very impressed. Possibly not quite as grippy but will outlast pathetic Haix sole for years. I did a review on here and posted some photos somewhere...

Didn’t get chance to see it today unfortunately. Hoping to go back on Thursday if the physio gives me the thumbs up for driving. I’d be getting some far better tyres for sure, but well spotted.

? That is a beauty! Nice tip off! My brother lives in Enniskillen, so I could send him to have a look. Shame he is a magnet for crap cars and doesn't seem to have much luck when checking them out!

And instead of haggling on price, it's easy to haggle on warranty and other extras.

Absolutely no warranty with LC I've been perusing. To be honest I think unless you buy a second hand motor locally, the warranty is often pointless.

Not really mate. I think I'm possibly making a mountain out of a mole hill here. I know that the tow vehicle is a critical part of the business, and the only part I'm not buying brand new. But I like to think I'm a good, competent, safe and capable driver who understands the importance of mechanical sympathy! I would also like to think I'm going to be able to dodge a proper turkey of a truck too. Also, my intention is not to be driving long distances for long periods of time, an hour and a half max. With that in mind I think I can be happy enough knowing I can call for back up fairly easily should anything go wrong with the truck. I think I need to get out there and see some of the vehicles I have earmarked. Might rope my old lad into going for a day riding about the North looking at stuff. Landcruiser is most favoured choice, but I'll gladly look at Shoguns and Patrols etc. Be daft not too.

I can only go secondhand unfortunately.... Poor choices made in the past mean no bank or finance company will tocuh me with regards to credit. I've only made a few bad decisions with vehicles over the years. So I'm hoping the tow truck I pick will be a good one. Still edging towards a Landcruiser for the most part, but looking at Shoguns etc too now as you get a lot of truck for your money.

It's a bloody awkward situation really. Spend more on a Landcruiser, and hopefully reap the rewards. Or go less on something else, and take the risks.

Just been checking out some Nissan Patrols. Seems the auto can't tow as much as the manual according to one website. Does anyone have a link to a decent resource for checking a vehicles tow capacity?

Any tips or wise words of wisdom on what box to go for? The vast majority are automatic but there is a manual that's not too far away from me that would be worth a wee look at as I reckon I could get the price down a little with paying cash.

I am blaming me looking at Range Rovers/Discos etc on the anesthetic still being in my system! Still edging towards Land Cruiser, but Jeep looks interesting and hellish good spec and age for the money.....
