  1. My point exactly, the effort and work I put into my fencing , then I see others can't give a toss, Nailing stays to strainer, tieing base to a post, not ensuring flat side of post is against the fence, Putting staples in straight. All the above are common place with those that put no thinking on to fencing, How many think about the livestock, where the pressure points on fences will be, under trees, watering holes, Not putting in turners at regular intervals, But as you say piece of piss, The lack of accreditation in the profession is shameful.
  2. You said 150 for big gate , 100 for small, Are you supplying gates at that, Really posses me off that so many " tree surgeons" or gardeners with a chainsaw, Pass themselves off as fencers, most of which know nothing about livestock behaviour, the prices th at are charged beggars belief , and the fact that those wet behind the ears pays it annoys me even more
  3. 16ft gates, around £100, 3-4 ft £40_50, So even if you supply those figures don't add up, to me that is blatant ripping off.
  4. I don't see the difference between hanging a long or short gate exactly same work, only double gates are chargeable at higher cost.
  5. Up my way where timber is dearer, I'm around £6.00 pm mtr, extra for heap of turners, as for hanging gates, if someone charged me £150 to hang a gate, I'd expect them to open and close it when I require, til take £50 at most and I think that's on the high side even if I supply the hooks I only add £12. £6 is supply and erect, Erect only £3.00 per mtr,
  6. Well your in for another shock wire prices set to rise,
  7. an electrician I know , when asked when he could start a job had he same answer for everyone. Not this week. Definitely not next week. Maybe the week after.
  8. Tough one, if someone chased up a quote they gave me I would think they are short of work and see it as a chance to screw them down. However, if i don't hear back I have seen me get in touch to say I'm arranging my work schedule and to see if they want to to go ahead, I had someone get in. Touch with me couple of weeks ago also g me to try and sort out problem left by different contractor, When I arrived I saw a section of work I had priced last year still not done, So asked if she had changed her mind, said no I was £1000 too dear so asked someone else to do it, turns out that someone else never turned up, or returned calls or emails, so I was left undone, She then said she would get me to do it, too which I replied fine but my rate has gone up from last year, Serves her right.
  9. bought a viking m248 self propelled, from his for £230, Don't think that's dear.
  10. Hi folks, looking to buy a new mower, for domestic use, want self propelled, with easily adjustable deck, collecting grass not necessary Any suggestions don't want to pay more than £300, I have a Viking dealer near me, that I get discount at, Also saw on frjones, snapper mower, wretched any good. Other option is to wait for mowers to return to lidl or aldi to have them back in. Are they good value for the price,
  11. Are drivall not out of business now?
  12. and there is a case to say that the players would have done so under ranieri,
  13. I hope ranieri takes that trophy, into Stamford bridge, bursts in to abromovich office, Slams it on his desk, and says " get it right up you"
  14. a guy is pulled over on the motorway travelling at 90 mph, the policeman asks him to produce his licence to which the man replies, " i dont have one , ive lost it for the third time for drink driving" is that right, sir. can i see you registration documents for the vehicle. " well, that'll be tough i stole this car you see, and more to the point i muderered the owner and put thier body in the boot, if you want ill show you " as he heads toward the rear of the car. no, no its ok, if you can just hand me your car keys i have to get in touch with the saergant, the driver hands over his keys, withinh 5 mins there are half dozen cars, and armed response unit and hi hiz everywhere. the saergent walks gingerll up to the driver and says " my officer there, says you do not have a valid driving licence " the man produces a clean licence, " oh, well he says you stole this car and murdered the owner and have thier body bundled in the boot" the man produces his proof of ownership, and opens the boot to display nothing but the spare wheel. the man then shakes his head and says " aye, and i bet the b@$tard told you i was speed too"
  15. I'm delighted for ranieri, after the way Chelsea treated him all those years ago, Hope he gets it right up them.
  16. Donald trump, an intelligent man who says things stupid people want to hear.
  17. Yep, and beats t be rubbish the Mart, that bbc Scotland showed last month, showing real farmers, and professional auction company, enjoying immensely, I know of the Irvine family, and I can't believe that father has kept his cool, he could start and argument in an empty house.
  18. Do yourself a favour, Bin the husky bar.
  19. When I worked for the commission, We were given waterproofs well they called them that, Yet were told if we slipped on hag or fallen timber we were to blame, so wet days were spent Sat in van, sleeping
  20. Perhaps different in Scotland, the FC is being devolved fully to holyrood from April, and ironically the only government department not to have its budget cut, from last year apparently FC in Scotland is in the good books just now,
  21. I occurred to me yesterday while waiting to meet a Forrester about an FC contract, that if they were to have charged people for issuing the keys for FC padlock, the they could have raked in millions over the years as everyone and his dog seems to have a key in their possession.
  22. I used to have a husky 65, from the early 80s, The local husky dealer used to love having it to service, he said when husky stopped making the 65, they started making the $hit€. That saw ran like a clock, though. Someone bloody nicked it.
  23. When I worked for the fc, there was kincardine, Buchan, and moray fd's They were merged into Aberdeenshire and moray. I would expect Grampian or north east fd to be the next step. Though they are selling off any unused equipment and plant, to raise cash. The whole commission is very strange when i started there harvesting was the be all and end all, then recreation took over money was thrown at it the recreation got its own squad, any ant equipment wanted was bought the squad had use of a credit card with a £ million limit, I kid you not. Whilst the fm squad was left to get by on scraps. We spent months planting, staking and tubing hardwoods, Which were then ignored and neglected, then all those tubes were removed and disposed of and replaced by fencing, how th at can be cost effective beggars belief.
  24. I've worked as an employee of the FC, and as a contractor, the bureaucracy in the disorganization, is ridiculous, If you go for the work have risk assessments, and method statement ready, I down load templates and just change location and other site specific stuff, They don't know their elbow from their arses a lot of the time, when I worked for them as employee,we used to say first job was to get in van, open window and throw out all common sense. To be honest I'd be very surprised if the fc exists in ten years, the torys have unfinished business, they have tried to privatise them twice and failed, and they won't escape the next attempt, staff moral is low and they accept the end is nigh, I expect forestry commission Scotland, Scottish natural heritage, to be merged and I would suspect similar merges will happen elsewhere, I would say that, they were quite easy going when actually carrying out work, and payment was guaranteed and prompt in my cases
