  1. Having gear stolen is a real issue, not only the loss of the gear and replacement costs but the potential to loose work over down time. So would there be interest in a security device to deter and prevent thefts? i have an idea for a system to lock saws and tools up, strimmers, pole saws, hedge cutters etc. can be used in sheds and vehicles but before I spend a load of time on developing this is there a market for it? I keep seeing posts about nicked gear so wondering what people would be willing to pay to protect their kit? £50 for a lock for a saw reasonable? £100? strimmer/polesaw £50/£75/£100? they would be designed to fit the major brands pro/higher end gear Stihl, Husqvarna, Honda etc thanks for any input... i had had the idea a few years ago but didn't do anything with it, not seen anything on the market but is that because there is no market for this type of product?
  2. Touch wood our 56 has been faultless (Domestic use) for 5 seasons so far bought used in 2012. Anything worth changing in advance or wait till it goes? a few hedges to finish off and that's it for another season.
  3. Does that make it worth the extra? With a working 56 it's a lot of investment for little gain but if buying new might be worth it, my 56 is getting on it's a 2008/9 machine but nothing wrong with it.....
  4. Still not changed the plug or filter...... anyone compared used both for same tasks with the newer km 94 to the 56?
  5. Kombi system?
  6. Anyone compared this to the km56? As it's £80-100 more is it worth the extra? Sounds a lot for 0.1kw extra but the numbers don't always tell the full story... lighter, smaller displacement but more power....
  7. A used km 56 with angled hedge cutter is the best tool I have bought got it several years ago and it's been faultless on basic garden duty my dad now uses it for strimming instead of his Honda, it has a metal blade 2 arm thing and nylon head, also have the polesaw which is great, have the 1m extension and wouldn't want to use more than one extension pole..... use normal stihl red oil and Stihl grease on the cutter gearbox had it sharpened and might treat it to a plug a new air filter some time oil filter gets very oily but that's normal. just follow the starting process and I recommend a full helmet
  8. Boats and aircraft often have much bigger tanks than 30l jet skis can have 60 litre tanks!!!! Or is this just portable tanks? A none portable aircraft or boat isn't a lot of use mind....
  9. saw this when i filled up at asda sunday
  10. 107.7 at ASDA by J32 yesterday not seen it cheaper round here
  11. I was surprised thought it would be 30 ish but it's rated kW is higher than the 27cc 56 unit ??? more power less displacement! Clever! Might treat mine to a new plug and air cleaner this year was just shocked to see all that oil behind the filter and how oily filter was. Tempted by the blower for mine and a few other bits...... But then I would probably need another motor lol...
  12. Thanks, if its a known thing then thats cool it does run a WOT fora time while cutting so makes sense was just a bit surprised to see/feel it all over the filter and inside the housing. The exhaust port is very clean unlike our cheaper 2 stroke gear. Guess i have no excuse to buy anything else......
  13. Just a bump but there is a new km94 2mix and lighter than the km56 but it's 24cc not 27cc but more power and lighter ??? Would seem ideal for the task?
  14. The head of the pole pruner will fit the straight shaft loop handle strimmers too the head is common to the kombi units, hedge trimmers and strimmers (loop hane straight shaft) i have the kombi one as I have a kombi but their all the same
  15. I'm a home owner user of a Stihl kombi ( fantastic bit of kit) It's a 2008 unit bought used in 2012 I think, it's used mostly with hedge trimmer attachment, rarely with a pole pruner and once only strimmer (have a strimmer so no need really) It has been faultless, gets a good use every year cutting a mixture of stuff privet, laurel, leylandii etc. or a week of pro use a year...... I'm not sure if it has ever been serviced, certainly not since I bought it, it's run only on red Stihl oil mix 50:1 and hedge trimmer is greased regularly. Today I took the cover off the air intake and knocked the crud off, the filter was oily and under the filter was oil not lots but enough to see Is this normal or is fuel mix going back out of the carb? I do tend to invert it and tip the motor and never noticed a fuel leak (has the fiddly black and white cover to tank) Should I be worried by the red oil in the filter material and on the inside of it?
  16. Depends what is worth to you handy to have another rig or hassle and cost ? If you could store it you could sorn it in summer keep it for the winter and use as needed, if its taking up valuable space and costing in wasted tax/insurance the money may be better in your pocket/pension/mortgage/rainy day fund. I would guess with that age it's value wont change much over the next few years.
  17. Does network rail or whoever you are working for allow it?
  18. South staffs near wombourne it's under the line at the moment. They just had a load of tree work done which wasnt cheap hence the question.
  19. Thanks Eddie do they shut the line down while they are done or leave it live?
  20. IT's not my land but doubt 3-4 metres clear 2m at most its 3 lines horizontal in parallel so could be lower voltage this sort of thing It's not my land but will pass it on to the landowner, thanks.
  21. After having had some tools stolen (from a locked site box on a 24 hour guarded site) the police helpfully lent us a UV marker pen to mark our gear.. unless they look for the smart water your not going to see it again.... UV pen may well be a good idea as atleast they may look for the marks. IF you have gear in sheds/containers one thign that can work Instant protection I think now you can have the smoke tagged like smart water.
  22. Not sure if available in UK but Iveco daily 4x4? The new Daily 4x4 in detail 3.5t twin or single rears and can have a PTO... New defender due next year....
  23. I'm no pro but do look after a few hedges (well butcher annually) laurel, privet, beech, leylandi and all are similar depends if maintaning or trying to get under control after being left to go wild. If it was a pruned hedge gone wild its pretty easy to get it back to shape may take a couple of seasons.
  24. Lay a tarp down before you start to catch the cuttings!
  25. Thanks the propert is in the Wmids but looks like wpd area on the web old meb area. Does anyone know the separation I don't want the tree down but it could do with a prune as its shading the veg patch!
