  1. Wouldn't using something like a jet fit head with 2 lengths of heavy line have a similar effect on the carb. I know excess length can drag rpm down but you also get more drag with multiple heavy precut lines even with the guard on.
  2. My 2008 fuel was from tesco
  3. When you said the bearings run forever was that just the bearings on their shaft? If it was it might be they have a little wear. Older worn bearings often run for longer than new when spun. Considering the hassle you've had and that bearings are relatively cheap I would change them to at least eliminate that.
  4. I have a car here that was last filled with fuel in 2008. Starts fine but not sure about the performance. Years ago I did experience stale fuel preventing a car starting but it had a different smell. Jerry cans normally seal well so highly unlikely to be any water ingress which I believe is the biggest issue. Rather than worry, feed it to a car or mower as GK suggests
  5. I have used a strimmer helmet with plastic visor when built in muffs have been needed. Bit OTT for workshop use though. We just use cheap plastic almost throwaway faceshields. No idea of the make but presumably they all must be up to a certain spec. Even a good one will scratch if placed shield down and no matter how many times the lads get a pat with a bit of 2x1 they don't seem to remember that.
  6. Grease loses its oils through its life and ceases to lubricate properly. Oil on top of an old tub of grease is a good demonstration of this. Age, pressure and heat speed this process up so Stihl have a good marketing ploy going there. I think its highly unlikely that any non greased gearboxes would last 1/2 as long as my old FS 280 has
  7. Probably only necessary if you want it to last more than a couple of months. My old Stihl has a plug that can be removed to grease the gearbox. I would be very disappointed if the newer ones didn't have this.
  8. Forgot to add that in my example engine hours would also be reduced by 50% as it wouldn't need to run overnight
  9. Unfortunately loads are rarely constant, if they were then there would be little need of this system. The idea is to even out the peaks and troughs and also supply power to very low demand times. Say a factory wanted 200 kVa for 1 hour, 100kva for 9hours and 1 kVa to run security over night. This type of system would do that but a straight genni would need to be bigger than 200kva which would be very inefficient producing 1 kva
  10. When we chip slab wood in the rain or recently after its 5 % higher MC than in the dry. Slab obviously has a higher surface area for the same volume so my guess would be 2 % extra held on the surface and bark. Bigger logs would hold less surface moisture as the surface to volume is less.
  11. Anyone wanting pictures please PM their email address and I will send that way.
  12. Might be worth a chat with your local Euro forest office
  13. Depends on the trees and their height. I have a triangular strip of land with woody hedges that have grown for about 20 years without cutting. The narrow end of the field grows virtually nothing until it widens to 7 or 8 metres. At 10 metres wide its a reasonable growth of grass but not as lush as the wider end. Most of the trees send out their lower branches into the centre of the field in search of light so further shade the grass. It suits me well though as my crop is firewood from the hedges.
  14. If you have ever grown an arable crop in a field with trees along the hedges you would see a vast difference under the trees. Lack of light, nutrients probably taken by the trees. I'm not saying flailing is right just explaining the financial reasons. I grew up on a farm with some trees on hedges BTW
  15. Sorry I don't seem to be able to transfer the file from my gallery. Will get some advice tomorrow perhaps.
  16. If hedges are left to grow then the farmer loses a wide strip of growing area around his field. 1000M perimeter around a field 5 M wide would cost around £10K to purchase that area so £10K wasted
  17. Base is1800x1070. 3 off 1900 high sides open at front 6mm x 200 square reinforcing mesh sides Frame is 50x3 angle Fork lift box underneath 120x 80 All measurements in mm We have 10 off that we don't use. Probably looking for £40 each. Call 07971794675 tomorrow to discuss if interested
  18. I rebuilt one, skimmed the block, head and pistons then a few years later the crank cracked. Engine was good for me as it payed my mortgage for a month or so. Still going now though. Hydro shift was trouble free. Just shows they all vary
  19. If those cages I described earlier are of interest they could be yours at a very reasonable price. Not sure how many are left but they must be at least twice the volume of ibcs from memory.
  20. Just a thought but were the bearings tight on their mounting shafts and in their housings.
  21. We had a load here in the way made from 50x50x6 angle with 200x200x6 reinforcing mesh, 2 metres high. Big box section underneath for the forks. Probably would be fairly easy to make considering transport costs.
  22. We have been using biomass fueled heating for about 10 years now and as Duffryn says along with most we are locked into wood fuel. We buy a few thousand tonnes of slab and roundwood each year and season for around two years so we are committed to maintain this in advance of use. The first boiler was pre RHi and payed for itself in just over 3 years. The second was eligible for a stupidly high amount of RHI so costs next to nothing to run. Over this period demand has obviously pushed prices up a little but be biggest jumps for us seemed to have coincided with power stations coming on line. When we started slabwood was at giveaway prices but when Slough started there was a big jump, in fact there was some breaking of agreements as higher prices were being offered. Similar situation with round wood though not quite so marked. Inflation plus a bit although lower oil prices must have limited its rise recently.
  23. An aerosol of resin cleaner
  24. Welcome from Cornwall Grizz. As Stubby says friendly lot on here and all like to help. A bit like a big family I guess.
