  1. Mr Bolam is dead right. We did a similar job recently. The bank was really steep and wet, the only way to keep my footing was to tie into a nearby tree. We quoted it for a day and it took two. Every cut had to be hauled out of the stream on ropes. The tracked barrow would have been useless and would have probably ended upside down in the stream. Surprised no one put a price in though.
  2. In that case we really are in big trouble...
  3. Congrats Paul! Well done mate, you deserve it. [emoji106]
  4. Big 50! Nice one Paul, Happy birthday mate. Pm sent. [emoji106]
  5. Thanks Eggs.
  6. Excellent post. Getting your name out there so you are doing plenty of quotes seems to be the name of the game. That way you get more choice in the jobs you are looking at. The fewer quotes you do the more pressure there is to win the job which inevitably drives the price down. [emoji106]
  7. Thanks
  8. Thanks [emoji106]
  9. We’ve been asked to do some reductions over a single track one way street in the Midlands. The only way we can get it done properly is by fully closing the road. Can anyone recommend a good TM company in Bham? Thanks in advance.
  10. Went to see these tonight. Great atmosphere,
  11. Speaking from the the point of view of someone who has run a tree firm. There are jobs where hiring in a top climber for £200 + (usually includes travel though) makes sense. It’s all down to planning the work well and efficiently . It can help the newer and less experienced climbers aspire to a greater level. It’s not for every day but every now and then, hiring in a top climber on the right job for top money makes sense and has it’s uses.
  12. Badly hungover I’ve heard... he had too much to think again.
  13. Pm sent. I’m only down the road from you.
  14. You joined the Jehovah’s Witness’s?! Nice one [emoji51]
  15. Nice suit as well. Whilst on the subject of brilliant minds please allow me to share one of my favourites. It shorter than the Asimov interview.
  16. (My apologies Mark, I mistakenly thought at first he was just another rabid new atheist) watched it to the end but my internet is very poor so it was stuttering. Seems like a decent guy. Think I read a couple of his books way back, in prison I think. Makes some very good points, especially the ones about the charlatan faith healers. (Happens to be a pet hate of mine). Particularly in Christian circles. I would have liked to hear him venture a little further by saying that not all faith is irrational but that’s my philosophy, and maybe not his.? Thanks [emoji106]
  17. Isn’t it ironic how ‘irrational nonsense’ as he arrogantly puts it, is changing thousands of lives in a dramatic and positive way. (If you want to lump all theistic beliefs together then allow me to do the same with the spectrum of atheist ideologies) Which ideology is responsible for the most death and misery in the 20th C. ??
  18. [emoji846] [emoji41]?

  20. Excellent post. But, if you had to do something... you know, if you were compelled to....? ?
  21. Not an easy one for sure, but should we continue rolling over and letting him have his way.... Hit him where it hurts, financially. But do it so that it’s his mates that are getting squeezed. Do it with ruthlessness and in such a way that they start to get seriously disgruntled, then disunity sets in and his power base gets weakened. Putin isn’t an idealist, he’s just a gangster at the end of the day. Granted a pretty exceptional one but the bottom line is it’s all about money for him and his firm. The ordinary Russians love him because he’s “making Russia great again”. Start turning the screws on Iran. Start weakening his hold on Syria, making it harder for him to dock his ships in warm water ports. A bit of reciprocal cyber aggression. He’s not going to go away but us and the rest of the world are letting him get away with murder.
  22. Cmon Mark... Russia would never claim responsibility. Putin seems to take great pleasure in taking the p***roverbial. Like the ‘unidentifiable’ troops in the Ukraine and The airliner that got blown out of the sky by a Russian SAM. How much proof do you need? Maybe the best way to play him at his own game should be done through the one thing that Russia really values in Britain.... the financial market. Skilfully applied freezing of the financial assets and properties held in the UK by his closest associates would be a good start. Make his closest friends feel the pain by hitting them hard in the pocket. Even in the unlikely event that he had nothing to do with it, he’s still due a straightener.
  23. Yer, the only way we could use the World Cup to punish the Russians would be by actually winning it.. looks like its plan B then.
  24. Sadly, Britain has been effectively castrated on the world stage the last 8 years by choosing to follow and align ourselves with Obama’s impotent foreign policies. (Ukraine, Syria, Iran, North Korea. etc) Putin is a very shrewd player, he’s sending his Political opponents and dissidents a clear message and also, more to the point, he’s blatantly taking the Mick out of the British Government because he knows that we are so far on the back foot now. This will be a stiff test of May’s leadership, will be interesting to see how she responds and whether Europe and the US will follow suit. (Maybe they could all project the Union Jack on their prominent landmarks like they do with terrorist attacks)
