  1. Keep doing it and it will happen, very bad practice from a Husqvarna dealer.
  2. Poor quality, or stale fuel, if the saw has a purge bulb, does it help if you pump it 10 or 12 times to pull cooler fuel through the carb?
  3. The purge bulb, and it’s function has not changed from the mk 1, the bulb should 3/4 fill, if not the pipe is either trapped, or the non return valve in the carb is blocked for some reason, this will make the saw harder to start, I assume it does run ok? however this is not correct and should go back to where it came from, if it is not running well stop using it now as it could have other issues in the carb, fuel filter, or fuel hose will may lean the mixture and cause it to seize.
  4. Yes, an engine leak down tester connects to a compressor, once screwed into the spark plug hole , and the engine at tdc compression stroke, press the trigger and air is regulated into the cylinder, this will check valves seating, excessive ring wear etc. the engine breather is just a valve which allows pressure out and vacuum in. Also look at the engine oil, does it smell of petrol?
  5. Oil on the plugs is nothing to do with the carb, I am thinking blocked crankcase breather, engine over filled with oil or badly worn engine, a leak down test on each cylinder is the next line of approach, but this will need to be done by somebody with the kit to do it.
  6. It will have a vacuum pump on it, a pipe to the rocker box cover to actuate it, yes if there is fuel coming out of that pipe then the carb is flooding, looking at the pictures it looks like it’s never been off so a Google service on it, also be aware there will be an anti fire solenoid on the base of the carb, you should here an audible click as you turn the ignition switch on, if not we could have an issue with that.
  7. I believe that is a breather come overflow, it does not connent to anything.
  8. The gearboxes are the weakest link with all the pole trimmers, I appreciate they need to reduce weight however, the bearings, rods and gears are of what I would term as heavy duty domestic, the power is not up to much, over filling with grease can also reduce power.
  9. Warning stickers are still mandatory on the saw weather we like it or not.
  10. Level with the body is there about, that is a very early carb, the fuel inlet pipe was moved so as to get the pipe away from the back of the cylinder ( to reduce pre heating the fuel ) you can turn the inlet pipe down and shorten the fuel hose, this does help with hot starting issues.
  11. T542ixp gains a clutch over the direct drive from the motor shaft on the T540ixp, So bad points , slower to accelerate due to the weight of the clutch and time to engage, good points, more power at the top end due to the additional inertia of the clutch, my belief is this was done for the US market.
  12. I am sure there will be a large spline .325 rim somewhere but I confess I have never seen one.
  13. Hope he has a sense of humour!
  14. Only to the original purchaser as it will be registered .
  15. I would just to look at fuel settings etc however, not absolutely necessary.
  16. No it will not hurt it, we see power cutters everyday filled with diesel, just drain it out crank till they start, they smoke like a chimney for five minutes but does clear and all good.

What did you find wrong with it??

That’s because you have kinked the fuel hose between the tank and the crankcase, easily done.

Same power as a 500i! Must be something terribly wrong with the Stihl then.
  20. I hate to sound like a well worn record but Flex hones I have used for years, maybe too expensive to do just one cylinder, but they are really good.
  21. Oh Pooh, I thought we had not established it was a mark 1 or mark 11, took my eye of the ball there, I bought a box set of Doris Day films, living the life now.
  22. Sounds like you have a mark 11 ring, you are not going to get that ring into that piston sir.
  23. Metal fuel tank, its either very old or it was a G machine, the sprocket on the left is how I remember it, fixed bearing with the shim but should also have the plastic disc from the one on the right.
