  1. Smallpox is kept in a Petri-dish at Porton Down, Salisbury.
  2. Yeah, it was over 40 years ago and with an illegal bookie to boot.
  3. My grandad taught me how to count with dominoes, cards and later horse racing. The latter was his personal vice but a great way to teach a child how to add up/multiply. How much per stake on a given odds, how much each way with different finishing results and how much with and without paying the tax at source. We used to head out once a week to an illegal bookmaker housed in a garage behind the local Social Club and place ten bob each.
  4. Nothofagus procera
  5. A guy I know had a compact syringe set in his personal first aid kit. He had been working in Greece & Cyprus for twenty years, lots more venomous insects/reptiles there. They where similar size to the calpol ones but you pushed down to create the suction, sucking out stings and bites, very effective.
  6. Square filaments have approx 30% more mass than their round equivalent(more surface area), that’s why you definitely need a machine powerful enough to run it. Husqvarna 545rxt if I could only choose one, best all rounder on the market. I run a 335rxt and a 555rxt for a mixture of grass and scrub, and 555fxt clearing saw with heated handles imported from Sweden for plantation thinning/sssi’s.
  7. Robinia is usually late to flush and early to drop.
  8. I recently picked up some ashes for an elderly neighbour, the funeral director commented that the person I was collecting had “lost a bit of weight”, made me chuckle.
  9. My mates daughter has been volunteering with an aid agency as part of her studies, been in Mongolia for a while. She came back last week via Dubai, they had airport screening then hotel confinement, she arrived at Heathrow then straight on the express to Brighton, no checks or information about Covid 19 whatsoever.
  10. Did you go through any COVID checks at the airport before they let you travel home Andy?
  11. The Oil industry is not alone in this, there are a shitload of people losing their jobs and possible homes/businesses. At least with a decent income from the Oil industry your guys might be able to adjust a little easier, triggers knocking back a grand a day at the minute.
  12. Have you had a pay out from the UK Government yet? I don’t know anyone who has so far and I am not holding my breath for the promised 80% either.
  13. A good friend of mine passed away last summer, only 52. He was a musician and was sent to the Crematorium in a coffin in the design of a Moog synthesiser, he would have loved it. These acts of kindness mean a great deal, well done.
  14. @Jamespepperpot has some nice kiln dried Deodar Cedar that is destined to be made into several desks for a London client, he may have more than he needs, worth asking as he is based in Kent. Not sure what dimensions the slabs are but he made me a great crafting table for the kids from one piece.
  15. That depends on how good you are at each activity and the kit you own to do either task. Only you know the answer, how long is a piece of string?
  16. I used pressure treated softwood sleepers to terrace my lawn, scaffold boards for my veg plot raised bed. The scaffold boards lasted 3 years, some of the sleepers started to go at 5 years. I replaced them with some Sweetchestnut that I had milled off a guy on here, 5 years later they are still solid as a rock.
  17. I use a combination of 550xp mk2 (15”) and a Spud ported 346xp (13”), the weight difference between the two isn’t really noticeable, the 550xp feels smoother and more comfortable in the hand, the 346xp has super rapid pick up and makes me smile every day, can’t think of any saw that is lighter and better suited to the job than these.
  18. You could use Larch as an alternative. James Pepperpot on here has a Sawmill in Kent, there is also Copford sawmill in Horam,East Sussex, they have a three week backlog at the minute though.
  19. You will get top money for it in Brighton.
  20. He makes jewellery. ?
  21. You forgot the truffle shavings.
  22. Me too, the first thing you notice are the imperfections. When I did my Oak decking at the Beach Hut I fixed it down with 4” brass screws and cup washers I got from a boat builder, all the slots in the screw heads are aligned in the same direction.
  23. The Japanese actually ‘garden’ moss in their Maple gardens.
  24. It’s low grade softwood, pressure treated with harsh chemicals to increase its durability to rot.
  25. I certainly wouldn’t be planting anything edible in it.
