We had them up here for the first time that I remember last year, they stripped the buds off all the fruit trees in the village and then buggered off... I was lucky I got 2 apples, netting bought for this year👍

Keep on going Stubby you've nearly got it back on course with butter coming from milk🤣

I have no doubt in the altruistic motives of scientists and researchers who strive to make discoveries and find answers to humanities problems. But these days I think that a very large amount of the ills that folk suffer from would seem to have been caused both directly and indirectly by these industrial complexes fecking with all that we consume in order to make dosh, and many aspects of our lives have been steered by dogmatic lies that get embedded into cultural acceptance and any questioning of the truth gets lost in time. One clear example of this [ at least to me ] is the introduction of the artificial sweetener Aspartame almost exactly 40 years ago when during the Reagan administration Donald Rumsfeld nobbled the panel of scientists that had repeatedly refused it's admittance into the food chain due their observations of it's 3 components. Aspartic acid made holes in the brain tissue of the rats they tested it on. Methanol is a known poison but very sweet Phenylalanine one of whose side effects is known to be intellectual impairment and is metabolised in the human body as the known carcinogen Formaldehyde. But Aspartame being 400 times sweeter than sugar, industry has saved untold amounts of money by using it as a substitute and not giving a toss about any future consequences. Back then there was virtually no obesity along with all the medical conditions that go with it and no doubt fill your hospital to the brim. So allowing sweeteners in consumables became way more than a double whammy for Pharma by eventually creating a global ' Diet ' industry with the ready made market of a generation of people addicted to sweetness where obesity is normal and they think that ' no added sugar ' means it's good for them... it's all over advertising and almost unavoidable unless a lot of care is taken at the shops. This dogma has become so entrenched that the government imposed a sugar tax ffs.. although there's a fair chance that they know exactly what they're doing.. I've long since assumed that Pharma along with weapons and oil are where most of the House of Lords have their billions invested. So this one substance has over a short period has played a major part in changing humanity but even so, most refuse to believe any of this and defend the health benefits of Diet Coke to the core. It's interesting that when my mother was recently in hospital the shop in the lobby area sold nothing remotely healthy. Absolutely not having a go at you, this is just the way I see things, cheers. and not a cow in sight🙄

How about ' The pharmaceutical industries 140 year plan to control the world by poisoning all of nature '

I can't react to your post with an inappropriate emoji, but I totally agree with your reply and understand the strain you're under. Mine has been through 5 years of hell on earth since having an adverse reaction to a prescription given by her GP who to this day has no interest in helping her. Luckily for us she was a health professional herself and her pension nearly covers the cost of her care which is still available here in Scotland atm although the system is under great strain with costs rising all the time. I hope each day for an end to my mum's suffering as perhaps you do also for yours... I don't really have the words to say any more on this except that I wish you well and know exactly what you're going through.

Hi John and Richard, Although this is a massive derail of a thread that's about some poor unfortunate person being killed by a cow, I think that the subject that you're discussing could do with it's own thread and with that it might get more participants as I'm sure that many on here are dealing with the same [ to me, by design ] problem with elderly care. As for myself my mother of 92 is being cared for in her own house by what seems to becoming the new system of private companies gleaning everything from folk who worked and paid to the national health system with their life long NI contributions expecting that they would have been taken in with open arms and been cared for and valued by the propaganda that they were led to believe in, but it seams that in fact they've been duped and have been dumped for the profit of government passing the financial gain being passed on to their compatriot's who they ARE in league with. In the UK, or anywhere else, if you think for one second that the powers that be have your best interests at heart you need to get you're you're head right out of you're arse and wake the **************** up, we're being manipulated big style with the new IT spying abilities that have been made able on a massive scale by big tech and all it's devious ambitions. As far as the NHS goes, listen and believe what this guy say's.

Interesting as I too have lost the very few Greenfinches that I had in recent years, I try to keep my bird table clean but I've got a few neighbours who definitely don't... I'll need to look out for the symptoms, cheers.

The water in both my locations comes from lochs fed by streams. Purely as a point of interest and some years ago as I said, having discovered the 6 chemical compounds added to the drinking water I decided to buy a water distiller, 3.5litre and cheap at about £60. On it's first use I distilled Glasgow tap water and tbo I was fairly surprised by the residue that was left in the pot when it switched itself off, from only 3.5 litres there was a thin layer of brown oily looking sludge and a few dark metallic in appearance hard crystals of around a bit less than 1/2 mm and no calcium... so I got the answer to the deposits on the stainless drainer. On doing the same with bottled and natural spring water all I get is varying amounts of pure white dissolved mineral salts, probably calcium carbonate or similar as you said. While the residue from the tap water looked unpleasant and is probably just symptomatic of a large piping system and may be harmless, but I know I don't want to be micro-dosed on a daily basis with the varying chemicals added to water by a water authority who are reluctant to say what they do. I hope the water in your well turns out to be nice and clean, cheers.

Never thought I'd like anything that he said.

There's quite a few affordable ro filters out there that claim to produce pure drinking water, I don't know how much they cost to maintain though.

I know a few folk that take their water from alternative sources and test with kits like this, and filter with reverse osmosis, not too expensive for small quantities. Not wanting to derail the water rates discussion, but most of the year I risk my health by drinking / cooking with untreated water from a local natural spring, it's wonderful, and when I'm in Glasgow I buy spring water at £1.25 a gallon, once you get used to this tap water really stinks of chemicals. I don't know if water treatment is standardised throughout the UK and I realise that the supply of safe drinking water is imperative to public health, but when some years ago I started noticing a very much increased amount of deposited white substance on the kitchen sinks stainless draining board from the small amount of water that had evaporated overnight I went about trying to find out just exactly what is put in the water to treat it. Not an easy thing to find out, as a layman... after a few tries just googling and spread over a few years [ only when my curiosity was spiked by said white residue ] I eventually came across this FOI request to Scottish Water, some folk may be interested in this, I think to be ingesting these chemicals on a daily basis can't really be healthy but thankfully no Fluoride in Scotland. Chemical additives to water supply - a Freedom of Information request to Scottish Water - WhatDoTheyKnow WWW.WHATDOTHEYKNOW.COM Could you please supply details, broken down by month, of all chemical additives used in the mains water supply serving...

The traveling scum that turn up here in the west highlands each summer are filth and leave their shite [ literally ] everywhere. they just camp up in a beauty spot do as much damage as possible while stealing anything they can before they're moved on..... But you already know this👍

Many would say you're about 30 years too late🤣

Can you spray Creosote with a knapsack spryer?
Macpherson replied to Woodworks's topic in General chat
This is the real creosote that I use, it's actually cheaper than the shite from B&Q etc TRADITIONAL CREOSOTE 20 ltr – Creosote Sales WWW.CREOSOTESALES.CO.UK Not sure that I'd want to spray it though, I dip posts and paint or roller boards, once done they'll last a very long time👍 -
A very emotive subject and you're explanation of the results that happen from dog attacks on animals I've no doubt of and I accept your right to deal with a dog that's worrying sheep or worse. Unfortunately far to many dogs are encouraged to take on the traits of their arsehole owners and I'd very much appreciate if you'd shoot them too. My near 16 year old loves inspecting nature just like me, she'll stand over and watch a beetle or spider with interest and on a recent walk through highland cows she ended up nose to nose with the bull which I wish I had a pics of, so you can't tar them all.....

Very good, that fairly put's things in perspective👍

Yes, yes and yes I do exactly the same, the ability of sharing knowledge using this tech has truly changed everything and for instance enabled me to meet you, cheers by the way👍 I guess what I was disagreeing with is the dark side of tech where everyone including our own elected representatives seem to be using it to do us over at every opportunity with ever more elaborate and underhand methods that most of us don't have a clue about. As ' Alexa ' was mentioned before in this thread, are any of you aware of the insidious aims of Jeff Bezos and the launching of his project ' Amazon sidewalk ' ?... If not you should look. Every aspect of our human rights and privacy is being eroded and undermined by an organised and determined regime that has no regard for us as individual and unique beings.. I've got a sense of despair as I watch each new generation of folk sleepwalking into oblivion riding on the wave of cheap Netflix and all the other rubbish.

Can't possibly agree with that, it's just so scathing of ' normal ' values ..why should only 20 ish years of evolving development force us to be so far apart, to me the pace of change is unnaturally fast with very little scope for the needs of nature to catch up. You're a bit of a bit of a conundrum in that you work at the pinnacle of technology and yet on your time ashore you replenish you're spirit with the rewards of manual labour and the joy of producing something with your hands. In no way am I criticising this method of achieving your dreams and I wish you success, but I think it would be more fitting for you to be conscious of the fact that this is not the norm for most folk, and that many others can achieve the same level of satisfaction just working in traditional ways without artificial crutches to buoy up their achievable goals. I for instance get great satisfaction from stonework. which tech couldn't, and never will have a hand in, the rewards of working with stone are spiritual , are as many long since neglected skills / crafts are, and to me this is what needs to be passed on before it's too late.

Aye, they look great and I can tell straight away with a quick glance that these don't have the Achilles heel of the polyurethane mid sole, I've an old style pair of Scarpa's just like them. Boots like these are what I also like for working in, there's quite often a bargain to be had with s/h mostly unused old school hiking boots that really take a beating and last for ages.. though no toe cap.

What I meant was that if the piston groove is 3.17mm + 2 x 1mm o ring cross section then there would be a 0.17 mm interference fit in the cylinder with the slight extra width of the groove 0.2 mm or only 0.008" allowing for the slight deformation of the o ring which would seem about right for the push back to form a seal. Sorry for the imperial reference but my brain doesn't work in fractions of mm's😁 Here's a link if any use to you, they're usually next day even to me way up here. looks like 5 for 2 quid free delivery👍 Metric Viton Rubber O Rings 1mm Cross Section 1.5mm-35mm ID - UK SUPPLIER WWW.EBAY.CO.UK Viton also referred to as FKM has a low compression set and have high temperature and chemical resistance. All of these...

Try SEALS 'R' US, they've got an ebay shop, they pop up first in a search. in my experience o rings are mostly a standard size so a 3 mm ID x 1mm would be the most likely with nearly 0.1mm beyond the 5mm piston. Apologies for busting in but I've been closely watching this for a solution.

Yep, I'm not sure about chainsaw boots but pretty much all of the top brands of mountain boots are the same now as they compete with each other, I think it started as a comfort / weight reduction thing but it's also built - in obsolescence which is a pity as many of these boots are getting on for £300 a pair. Even worse, some brands like Salomon for instance won't even provide the likes of LSR soles at all so when they wear down the boots are for the bin, cheers.
