A very emotive subject and you're explanation of the results that happen from dog attacks on animals I've no doubt of and I accept your right to deal with a dog that's worrying sheep or worse. Unfortunately far to many dogs are encouraged to take on the traits of their arsehole owners and I'd very much appreciate if you'd shoot them too. My near 16 year old loves inspecting nature just like me, she'll stand over and watch a beetle or spider with interest and on a recent walk through highland cows she ended up nose to nose with the bull which I wish I had a pics of, so you can't tar them all.....

Can't possibly agree with that, it's just so scathing of ' normal ' values ..why should only 20 ish years of evolving development force us to be so far apart, to me the pace of change is unnaturally fast with very little scope for the needs of nature to catch up. You're a bit of a bit of a conundrum in that you work at the pinnacle of technology and yet on your time ashore you replenish you're spirit with the rewards of manual labour and the joy of producing something with your hands. In no way am I criticising this method of achieving your dreams and I wish you success, but I think it would be more fitting for you to be conscious of the fact that this is not the norm for most folk, and that many others can achieve the same level of satisfaction just working in traditional ways without artificial crutches to buoy up their achievable goals. I for instance get great satisfaction from stonework. which tech couldn't, and never will have a hand in, the rewards of working with stone are spiritual , are as many long since neglected skills / crafts are, and to me this is what needs to be passed on before it's too late.

Aye, they look great and I can tell straight away with a quick glance that these don't have the Achilles heel of the polyurethane mid sole, I've an old style pair of Scarpa's just like them. Boots like these are what I also like for working in, there's quite often a bargain to be had with s/h mostly unused old school hiking boots that really take a beating and last for ages.. though no toe cap.

What I meant was that if the piston groove is 3.17mm + 2 x 1mm o ring cross section then there would be a 0.17 mm interference fit in the cylinder with the slight extra width of the groove 0.2 mm or only 0.008" allowing for the slight deformation of the o ring which would seem about right for the push back to form a seal. Try SEALS 'R' US, they've got an ebay shop, they pop up first in a search. in my experience o rings are mostly a standard size so a 3 mm ID x 1mm would be the most likely with nearly 0.1mm beyond the 5mm piston. Apologies for busting in but I've been closely watching this for a solution.

Yep, I'm not sure about chainsaw boots but pretty much all of the top brands of mountain boots are the same now as they compete with each other, I think it started as a comfort / weight reduction thing but it's also built - in obsolescence which is a pity as many of these boots are getting on for £300 a pair. Even worse, some brands like Salomon for instance won't even provide the likes of LSR soles at all so when they wear down the boots are for the bin, cheers.

I've had this happen to quite a few different makes of boots including Meindl, Salomon and Raichle all top brands, not Arb boots but I've long since chosen to wear mountain boots at work due to comfort and support. It's since they started using a Polyurethane midsoles and is a pita. the midsole is perished by a combination of time and UV light so for instance I bought a bnib pair of Meindl Island boots s/h and unworn at a decent price of £100 so £140 cheaper than retail, I was delighted with them until I took a few steps in the living room and the midsoles turned to dust. Not all bad as I got my money back and got to keep the boots, In the UK and Ireland Meindl boots get repaired through Bramwell international who then send them back to Germany to Meindl's own repair workshop I think it was about £80 plus return post to Bramwell in England, £20 ish. All new sole including the rand, new laces, a pair of insoles and a Tin of wax.. so not too bad as long as the rest of the boots are worth it👍.... It's known that artificial fertilisers [ from said pharma ] reduce the uptake of this essential salt by veggies. And yes.. It's a conspiracy that's been going on since the 60's. Why would you want a substitute anything? .. we all know that the real thing is usually better at the job, creosote and white spirit for instance. And as far as Ebay is concerned, It's mostly new stuff that I buy from online traders and in near 1000 purchases only 3 or 4 have gone wrong and all were resolved painlessly. Yep, the main scare tactic that's used to put folk off from using it is that it causes infertility, as far as I can tell from looking into that I've found that it's not true. Even if it were, most folk with arthritis are beyond caring about fertility and just need relief from a chronic condition.

It's not banned in UK you can buy it on ebay in many different quantities, I've bought it a fair bit as one of it's many other uses is to prevent mould growing on fresh milled timber although there IS the threat of that, it is banned for sale to the public in various other countries and there is an agenda. Anyway there's loads of folk who've got arthritis singing it's praises online.. fixed my tennis elbow into the bargain.

Hi, you could do worse than google ' Borax for arthritis ' and the same with YouTube, just don't listen to or believe any naysaying medical websites who try to dissuade folk from discovering this cheap and safe remedy that could potentially benefit most people. I've been taking this for 4 years now and the change in my reasonably severe ailments has been profound... I posted a document on this in the ' Our broken bodies ' thread which got a lukewarm response but I can assure anyone who cares to read the thing that it's all true. I originally had to stop taking painkillers due to scary problems they were causing and did use Turmeric and cbd to hold inflammation in check before stumbling over Sodium Borate. I'm 65 and not had a pharma painkiller in about 6 years but for some odd reason I'm strangely still compelled to medicate with your first 2 solutions😁

Aye, this is quite worrying in the sense that we've almost created a cage for ourselves before we've really had a chance to fully take advantage of the benefits of the new environment that's becoming increasingly more available every day. So the exponential leap in science that I had hoped to witness in my lifetime may well be contained in an orbital coup [ rubbish tip ] which could blind humanities view of the cosmos completely. It's interesting in that when you first start playing and can do nothing with either hand, a right handed person then perseveres to make their left hand make a lot of unnatural movements and hold strange shapes while their go to hand does very little [ at least to begin with ] As you say there are many more RH instruments around so when you're essentially a blank canvas would it matter? So I wonder if a lefty might get on better with the chord shapes more easily on a RH guitar. Just a thought, but there are many instruments and tools that aren't handed so right or lefty you don't get a choice on a piano, a sax or a chainsaw. Someone starting out wouldn't go wrong with either of your suggestions, probably I'd go for a version with a cutaway if was only going to have one guitar and I'd also say that learning guitar would be a help to playing bass👍

I'm planning to put 4kw of panels on a ground based mount in the garden, at least then I can maintain them, It would be a right bugger if you had a roof problem under the panels. I recently read that optimum angle ranges from 30* in the south of England to 40* in northern Scotland and facing south but I'm no expert, I've just been looking into it and trying to decide whether to try to diy it or get a company in to quote for it. I know from reading your posts that you take pride in the precision of your work so it's no surprise that you can transfer these skills to dialling in fine settings on guitars, something the I also get a lot of satisfaction from. Anyway I wonder if you know of Ted Woodford, a Canadian luthier who puts out a weekly episode featuring an interesting repair or set up to a guitar that's come through his door. He's kind of the Bob Ross of guitar repair as his vids are so educational and have frankly become the highlight of my Sunday night, this weeks is a Tele set up so @stubby will like it too 😁 I liked the ' mother of toilet seat ' pickguard comment.

When I that I saw this being heavily pushed I listened to an online explanation which was followed by a link to recommended supplier of said devices, the first thing that came to mind was that as this will obviously be a large earner for those supplying the alarms.. do any of them in Holyrood have any vested interests? So no one will be criminalised, but will insurances be invalidated as was the threat on the blurb I watched ? I consider myself similar and also suffer from finger envy but I've got a good practice regime and pick up a guitar most days.. as long as you enjoy it is the main thing and practice will always let you see improvements.. and then there's YouTube, young folk today have no idea just how spoilt they are to have just about any song broken down by an expert player for them to copy... where might we be today if we'd had that in 1969😅👍

I don't doubt that at all,.. so to me the inference is that the as cheap as possible synthetic rubber parts of these machines are even more affected by Ethanol than the equivalent quality oem part of a Husky or Stihl for instance. My village is full of garden machinery that's lasted no more than a season or two of minimal use, so essentially nearly new.... it just seems crazy that this situation is being accepted as ' normal ' and that petrol engines can no longer be run on petrol, most folk have never heard of Alkylate fuel and likely wouldn't pay the price for it even if the local garage sold it, they just keep buying cheap B&Q type stuff as and when.. Like I said being a stubborn bugger. when an engine has compression, a spark, a clean carb and is nearly new it simply frustrates me if I can't get it running, and that often leads back to the non return valve, or removing the welsh washer... ..As a matter of interest last year one of my neighbours brought me an original American McCulloch strimmer from the '70's [ surprisingly good quality ] which hadn't been running for a very long time but had a Walbro carb with a removable blanking plate with a seal allowing access to the mixing chamber... I 've no doubt that the denial of easy access to this by manufactures on nearly every carb is deliberate. When I first started working on engines in my early teens the pilot air / fuel mixing chamber on Amal's was a major headache which took me a number of years to get a reliable sort for 👍

Hi, the non return valve theory is something that I've pondered many times but usually parts aren't to be had so it becomes a sticking point in a repair to a low value machine, but.. Most of my neighbours prefer these cheap chinky garden machines and most have several ' broken ' ones in their sheds which I regularly get the pleasure of just.. ' having a wee look at ' .. They're usually almost new looking [ once cleaned ]and hardly done any work and to be fair I can usually revive them, but the non return valve on the bubble is the one part that I can never really trust and I've long suspected that it's function on these cheap machines is their Achilles heal, .. apart from the fuel !!... and everything else😅 I wonder about the materials used and their resistance to Ethanol damage as the actual bubble itself is often another early casualty of being dissolved into a sticky mush or becoming brick hard and bursting with the first pump, so two different reactions to the fuel, although time may play a part in that. I know most wouldn't bother trying to repair this very new ' scrap '.. but I'm a stubborn bugger and I refuse to be beaten by a simple fuel metering device and totally agree with your ' extra gubbins ' comment👍
