  1. I had in the past thought of using engineering lathe type coolant or white water as an alternative on my mates Norwood for the same reason, but never got round to it and he didn't take the idea onboard as him being the ' rough and ready ' type and not that bothered about a poor finish of cut, cheers.
  2. Just curious, does this not leave the timber smelling a bit ?
  3. As far as I'm concerned the whole of Pharma is and has been corrupt since their inception, it's bad enough that they poison folk with their concoctions but worse that all the treatments from nature that actually work and are safe but can't be patented so get banned, ridiculed or just concealed and are forgotten. And as you say the last 2 and a bit years has shown them up for what they are.... once again imo.
  4. That looks like a crackin mill you've got there 👍
  5. I'd kind of forgotten about her but don't the words ring true...I guess she wrote this as a reaction to Vietnam but nothing really changes.
  6. From the pics I'd say use it outside when it's dry and take it in when finished or give it a couple of extra coats of exterior polyurethane Yacht type varnish and take a chance, try a wee test area first to make sure there's no reaction between possible different finishes, good luck.
  7. Yep, in any trade 👍
  8. This popped up today and kind of put it in a nutshell, at least imo.
  9. Wouldn't be too hard to to use the dawgs you have as a template and just make a toothless pair from some thin plate, I potentially have the same problem as I've got them off just now to get that extra couple of inches... I've not had a chain break on me while milling but it's bound to happen.
  10. Thought this was interesting given the years between the recordings and the massive difference in tech.. Sound only of Jimi in '67 and Randy Hansen doing the same song 40+ years later, he's got it bang on but the you can hear just how much the recording Tech has moved on.
  11. Bonkers.
  12. Don't know anything about chippers but could it be that there's a tool for pulling the plate that attaches on to the 2 studs and has a jacking bolt in the centre. In any case from the photo I'd clean the end of the shaft with emery and lube before trying and unless it moves easily apply some heat. Or just a 2 leg puller if that would go on.
  13. So roughly what size are your4 year old Rainbow as a matter of interest.. I see Herons all the time and watched one last week struggling with a fish that looked to be around 5 or 6oz, cheers.
  14. Is this what you're looking for ? Bing Carburettor Kit Will Fit Stihl Chainsaws MS380 MS381 & Later Models Of 038 WWW.EBAY.CO.UK Fits Stihl MS380, MS381, later 038. Fits Bing Carb model 46-01-BNG. We will always go out of our way to source the...
  15. That's what I've just been looking at to sort out my fence, good to get a positive recommendation👍
  16. Hey Dudders I'm glad you started this thread, I've very much enjoyed the response that's emerged so far, I love seeing the amazing quality of others work, cheers.👍
  17. This is my Sunday night treat, watching Ted Woodford do an instrument repair or set up or whatever... by coincidence tonight he used his bending iron to repair a Gibson guitar, If you don't want to watch it all { addictive like milling } then skip to 11.20 to see it in action.. Danger.. you may end up enjoying Ted's input every Sunday night therefore causing a weekly diversion in your life.
  18. Yep. I assumed that, I only have a small stock fence around my garden but without the correct tools over uneven ground it's difficult to make it look tidy, it was just 2 completely different prices for the exact same tool that caught my eye, cheers.
  19. A maker but not of cabinets, I served my time as an engineering fitter and then set up on my own repairing old stuff and making 1 offs. so mostly all metal then in my forties just to get outside I switched to garden work, odd jobs and any tree work that I could cope with which was much less stressful and led me to working with wood, then I got the opportunity to do some stonework which I found very satisfying and did quite a lot of.. got a small pension now so trying to repair and recover and do some things for me, cheers.
  20. There was another thread just days ago where someone asked for an ID of this tool, and while I know there is always different quality to various brands of tools but these are probably the cheapest. The first listing is £28 and 10 listings down the same tool is £140 . fence+wire+tensioner: Search Result | eBay WWW.EBAY.CO.UK Find great deals on eBay for fence+wire+tensioner. Shop with confidence.
  21. Still looks like the Douglas that I've milled except that the sap wood has turned greyish due to it having laid about for a long while, any smell would have been in the bark which is long gone which is just as well or it would probably have rotted, Douglas can get quite hard when left and be rough on teeth, band or chain.
  22. That elegant stair just floats, you're very skilled. But I take you're point about changing tack in life, it's short and to accomplish all your aims, or at least as many as possible, you need to know when to make a change and move on to the next thing while retaining all you're previous skills and using them in another direction to gain more and satisfaction in other pursuits. I did the same as you and around the same amount of time in life.. I just had to get out the workshop away from the phone and into the fresh air... best thing I ever did 👍
  23. Had his 1st album on in the car this afternoon, saw him 4 times when I was young.
  24. I'm glad I blurped about bending with steam if it prompted you to show us your work, to me this has a touch of C.R. Mackintosh inspired design but I may be wrong there... but no matter it's very elegant. To do fine work like this do you have a carpentry / cabinet maker design background, just curious ? Go on then, show us something that you've made that you are keen on👍
