  1. I'm closer to Machynlleth.
  2. Makes very little difference I just use normal chain it's cheaper.
  3. No chainsaw is going to replace a silky, I use my silky's all the time far more control, safer & silent. Had a job clearing a 40' windblown conifer the other day it had blown into the neighbours property & got hung up in a large holly tree. There had previously been some major fallouts between customer & neighbours with their trees so they wanted them shifted fast & discretely before the neighbour noticed it had dropped onto their property. Had it down & chucked over the fence in no time with my Silky Katanaboy, started up the chainsaw to ring it up & the neighbour appeared very suddenly and said "about effin time that tree went, are you taking the lot down?" I know both neighbours and know that if they had noticed it fell onto their property they would of done their best to be difficult & to try to drag me into the dispute too rather than just trying to work out what I was doing there.
  4. I once had a customer worse than that. Was prepping a load of lodgepole pine they had bought in ready to build a massive roundhouse yurt halfway up a mountain. In order to get it up the track to where it was going to be built had to cut a single branch on a silver birch that was in the way. Before I was allowed to do so we had to have 5 minutes silent meditation followed by a prayer being said. When the branch was eventually cut they were in tears, they then proceeded to wrap the branch in a blanket & took it off somewhere while they decided what its purpose would be.
  5. Glad I didn't bother looking at how much negative feedback they have received for not sending out tarps/net sacks etc... over the last few weeks.
  6. If you are working on your own then be 100% sure you really want the extra work as once you start on 24hr emergency call outs the customers won't care if you have just had an incredibly long day & have an early start in the morning they will want the job done immediately or you won't get called again. If you are in the middle of a job somewhere else they will expect you to drop it & see to their needs. Emergency call outs can be profitable but they can also be a real PITA.
  7. It is Oregon chain oil exactly the same quality as every other tub of Oregon oil only the label is different. Not a brand of oil I use myself (I use Exol) but there is nothing wrong with it.
  8. Would be extremely useful to me as I carry out most repairs myself, usually only go to a dealer if I don't have the time or the tools required. Tracking down parts can be very time consuming. If you are unable to list all parts online then it would be helpful if you could list the brands you can get parts for with a contact us for availability form or something along those lines along with the option to add gift vouchers to an online order to cover the cost of those parts as a special order item once you have confirmed availability & price.
  9. Stihl in the big 2? I thought they were Echo & Dolmar.
  10. No not legal requirements just HSE recommendations, Stihl will however quite happily sell a homeowner who has never used a chainsaw in their life before an 880 with a 4' bar for their own use & said person could go on to use it to prune a few trees in their garden off a ladder with no repercussions whatsoever from either Stihl or the HSE when things go horribly wrong.
  11. And a truck to shift it although I suspect it will have to be done in 2 loads, trunk first then come back for the brash later.
  12. They are just asking for quotes albeit exceptionally poorly worded. This listing on the other hand.... Live Birch Trees - Beech Tree (Firewood Trees for firewood and any woodwork)free
  13. Still a word even if it is not that common anymore. Used on page 39 of A Discourse of Forest Trees & the Propagation of Timber https://archive.org/stream/silvaordiscourse01evel#page/38/mode/2up Obselete.
  14. A small saw & steady hand will do the job but it is painfully slow compared to using a more powerful saw. Very sharp chain and cut slowly (stopping and coming back to it later if needed) so the saw doesn't overheat.
