  1. It really isn't but I thought it was a prerequisite of the climbing nptc I'm pretty sure I had to tie one 10 years ago for my test. I'm not knocking the OP I'm just bemused that you are a qualified climber and climb on a basic knot that you you don't know how to tie
  2. I know some awesome climbers that still use a prussik I don't knock them for using it. I use a lockjack just to make things easier for me I'm touching 30 so I'm trying to be proactive. The prussik to these guys I'm on about is a tool to do the job they do and go home they're not interested in mechanical aids because they do the job fast enough and happy enough on a prussik.
  3. But if you don't know how to tie one how do you your prussik is loop is safe to climb on pre tied or not
  4. Do you not think when it revs up it lacks the top end you need to cut a limb off in one I also feel it lacks the torque of a 201
  5. Peatiff has hit the nail on the head. Electricity is easily available via coal, nuclear, wind, wave and solar which is more sustainable energy than gas. Electric boilers will be the future. Nothing to do with china or Russia it's forward thinking these houses need to last 50+ years before they become outdated
  6. Again surely a double fishermans is part of cs38 or unit 1 (correct me) A few ££ bit of 11mm rope will get you sorted. Tbh if I couldn't tie a double fishermans I really wouldn't want to climb a tree with one pre tied as I wouldn't know what's right or wrong with the knot
  7. The husky chain is pants it looks and feels like homeowners chain. The bar..... Well I've used one of the lads 540 which has a Oragen bar on it and it felt more balanced and not as cheap (hard to explain unless you've tried both) I've had the chain come off twice maybe the bars fault or my fault not sure but it's going back to get work done one it av spring bent and I'm sick of choking it to get it running when it's warm. I'm quite disappointed by the saw if I'm being totally honest it let's me down at the precise moment I want to spear/cut away at a gob I've lost trust in it So the 201 is out until it's either sorted or I've got my money back and I'll stick with the 201 Oh an unguarded chain makes all the difference like what we used to get several years ago before elf and saftey became the norm on chains
  8. Keep your head down and graft don't get to arrogant, it'll be tough and you'll think it's not worth doing for the wage but eventually (about 5-7 years) it'll all come together and people will start to ask you to to work for them for a decent wage
  9. I agree I'm a massive fan of the 200t I just can't risk it I'll end up buying a knacker, the ms200 has been knocking about for a bit so every saw now is different but this one was in good nick and the 201 put up a good fight against it which in my opinion and the other lads opinions was the better saw. Since it's my 2nd saw now I'm tempted to advance the timing on it to see if I can improve it some more My wife would kill me if the 540 lived in the cupboard after I spent all that money on it haha
  10. I've got one of the first ones and it was terrible it was on the verge of dangerous. A unguarded chain helps a lot
  11. That is true but I'm not prepared to modify my 2 month old saw yet
  12. It's not what I drilled into the carb it's what I drilled out of the carb. A small resistor in the H screw just means you can turn it up quarter of a turn
  13. I'm a bit confused surely this 101 of starting out as an arborist
  14. I agree big polly prop will be stronger than the shear pin in the tirfor like tree quip said if it gets caught or torn it's cheap to replace
  15. After the initial cost of a lock jack you only need to replace the cams every year or so (£10) maybe a friction plate ever 5 years (£20) and if I'm being perfectly honest with the the rope you already use with a prussik you can change without spending even more money which can do the job of a zig zag no need to change to a 11.5m rope. It just seems crazy to use one specially after the first recal I didn't come here to knock the ZZ it just doesn't make sence to use one for the cost specially if you can't replace any parts Plus lack of confidence in petzl Forgot to add modifications I've added a swivel to mine. Which at the end of the day I see ART making existing equipment better
  16. Seems like a waste of cash at the end of the day
  17. Off topic but what happens when bits wear out on a zigzag? I can replace 90% of the bits on my lock jack myself with a torx bit is it possible to replace bits on a zigzag?
  18. I've owned a husky 540 for around 2 months apart from the husky chain it hasn't been to bad, I decided to get the older stihl 201 out today to give it a run out it's had it carb and exhsust drilled and to be honest it blew the husky out of the water. It started and ran with only one pull it even out cut a 200t, it feels more robust than the 540 and for some reson I have more confidence in then 201 over the 540. I've seen a lot of people rave on about the 540 and I've seen lots of people pass on the 201 but a 10 min mod (I know it shouldn't be done with a new saw) can transform a saw into a top handle that's 2x as good as a 540 and as good if not better than a 200. My 201 is a 2011 version Also I've had the 3 saws (200,201 & 540) together not specifically for testing just on a job and all 3 of us agreed the 201 was the better saw that day. I kind of regret paying £500+ for a saw which my original saw was better I'm just giving people a heads up
  19. The ginger viking will keep your right he gave me plenty of work when I was a subby he's a top bloke even though he's a ginger
  20. You'll need an operators licence and your vehicle will need checks every 10 weeks you will also have to do daily vehicle checks. You won't need an cpc because you are not carrying goods or materials for reward. You'll also need to operate within a 60km radius of your home base. Me and Chris gill had the pleasure of a seminar with the DVSA that's what they told us
  21. Orange for railway
  22. My lock jack works well with a 13mm rope I wouldn't get to hung up about it
  23. An old firm I worked for ran winter tyres and their ivecos and they had no problems with them, they lasted as long as standard tyres. They did make a big difference on grassy and slightly muddy areas
  24. If all else fails and you can't find any AT fit some winter tyres
  25. CJM

    Modifying a ms201t

40% is really optimistic say 15/20% off those mods
