  18. Top working Nishiki willow onto stems: This is top working . Putting a pretty willow onto a willow whip.
  19. We use elastic strips. They will degrade better than plastic which has to be removed. We do use plastic in the field. We also graft two or three apple varieties on one tree , family trees.
  20. In this case , the graft is a small tree that has pink flowers rather than the common horse chestnut which has white flowers , so we are just making more . It is normal , however, to put apples onto a dwarfing stock so you have characteristics of both plants.
  21. Scion needs to match the stock for size , so you cut to match the pair up.
