  1. Get an old Honda foreman 450cc. Bullet proof. Can get them for £2k ish. Preferably from a low lying farm with no hills (Suffolk) so not too much hard work done.
  2. As above, PM a price please. Thanks v much.
  3. Never seen one of those. Look amazingly simple !!! When the tipper dies I will invest. How much are they ?
  4. Could run a Christmas competition, guess the number of pigeons !!
  5. should have been working...oh well.
  6. This years addition of the tipper can to my fleet has been priceless. Only £800 so waiting for it to go wrong !! Saves 30mins of hand balling it of a trailer !!
  7. Exactly as tree save says. We mange out woods and coppice about 3acres of ash per Annum. We do this in a patch work method across the woods and the. We return to the coppiced area in 23 years time to do the same again. As long as we aren't fraping the woods by cutting too much down each year it will remain sustainable.
  8. £190 for a tipper van full (2.4m3) so about £80 per m3.
  9. My processor has a 10T hydraulic ram for splitting and it amazes me what it will split. I have put some pretty gnarly bits of oak through and held my breath but it doesn't even think about it. When accidentally testing the awesomeness of the splitter I might have accidentally put a couple of bits through sideways just to see what happens :-). Bit more of a struggle but it can still do it ! Make sure you have a strong splitting bar. I think a 6 way splitter would be great (mine does two or four). Look forward to seeing a video of the homemade splitter. V envious as I cant make anything like that.
  10. Haha. No other time to get it done. Off to the day job now.
  11. NFU - usually v flexible, whilst not the cheapest usually seem the most reasonable when a claim is made.
  12. Picking up...do wood in my 'spare' time after work and at weekends. Doing 12m3 a week at the moment. Thank god I bought a tipper van !!! Life changing - best £800 ever spent on eBay !! She's a ripper 160,000 miles and just about hanging in there !! Orders expected to increase in usual pre-Xmas panic !
  13. Is there a way of wiring your vehicle into the mains when you go to bed so the little critters get fried when they touch any part of your vehicle ? How much is a catalytic converter worth to them anyway ? Would rather tie a £20 note to it and ask them to have that instead.
  14. I'm thinking the same way...wood gasification boiler would be great but do I want to fill it up everyday ? And what happens if away for the weekend ? -at least ground source or air source is continuous !
  15. She's a ripper !!! V v v jealous !!! One day !!
  16. If you have been in breech of the planning condition for more than 10 years and can prove it you might have a chance. Speak with a planning consultant/land agent or even the local planning authority yourself. They can sometimes be helpful if a livelihood is at stake.
  17. If the original planning permission specifically states that the use is to process wood from that woodland then you are on a sticky wicket. This said (and this is very left field) a lot of councils are very pro employment and renewables and so if you were to demonstrate that the business is no longer viable without the importing of wood then you might be able to vary the condition. If you want to really wind the new lady up, you could argue that as the building is no longer viable that you need to get a change of use on it to residential for a holiday let property. Whilst a bit tricky, you would certainly wind her up !! The other good one is to mention quietly to someone in the local pub that you have been approached by gypsies who want to buy the woodland and as the business isn't viable you are going to sell to them !! - it will take five minutes for her to hear and she will no doubt change her tune. People are so bloody nosey and can't just get on with their own lives !!! Lastly, watch her Property like a hawk if anything changes, report it, if its an old house with plastic windows check she has planning for them and lastly when she wants a tree moved or pruned politely decline.
  18. Sounds exciting. Keep me in the loop if possible.
  19. Just got marathon place confirmed for London in April !!!!!! Time to start training !! Going to be hard work - bricking it ! Not sure where to fit training in with firewood and a full time job. Think it's going to hurt !!
  20. Not yet, I will get a pic tomorrow and post it. Also got a couple of walnut las down. But sadly someone has already ringed most of them !!!! Managed to salvage a couple of lengths !
