  1. Good idea in theory. Can you find me 250 pieces of nice straight robinia 8 feet long.
  2. Is it not a casting Mark. I will have a look at my mk 3 in the morning and let you know.
  3. Do you think he has a girlfriend. Or does he use the Hoover.
  4. Cheers for that Paul it looks the nuts mate.
  5. With regards the chestnut posts, would these come treated and peeled or are they just cut and pointed. Thinking way out side the box does anybody make a galv post with holes that you can fit wire to with out staples obviously
  6. So this is the problem. I have got to install an ag type fence post and wire. The thing is this has got to be very substantial and I only want to do the job once. What do you view the expected life of let's say a 5" post driven in to firm gravel. Is there anything else I can do to stop them rotting off at ground level, I don't mind if I have to buy the posts a month before and stand them in some sort of extra preservative. This post will probably lead on to lots of questions regarding differant things to use as posts, Looks will not be as important as strength and lifespan. Cheers russ
  7. Leave them alone if the old system is working then that's all good. I think we're all getting a bit girly regarding drilling into a stem I have seen loads of old bracing with no ill effects on the trees health. But I have seen plenty of poorly installed cobra
  8. HOLY FLIPPING MOLY. the prices on that web site are bloody good I used to import my teeth direct in from the states and they weren't anything like as good as that.
  9. If it's what I think your talking about, then I've used it loads, but not as a lowering line. Lowering rope for lowering. Winch rope for a winch. Simple as that. If you want to know why it's because the winch rope will not stand up to the friction or heat build up generated in a lowering system.
  10. Does nobody braze on new tips? I found by grinding them down you alter the distance they stick out and change the performance of the machine tremendously, I used to be able to re braze a set of 24 teeth in the time it took for the misses to cook the tea. If you buy the tips in the states you can get them for under a pound a piece. I ran ran two grinders one 66 hp and one 25 hp five days a week for seven years I can't imagine just useing them and buying new when they are blunt.
  11. Crows nest farm. Breakspeare rd. St Leonard's farm. New Years green lane. Both green waste sites not bad prices, if you can chip up most of it crows nest will charge a lot less to take it of you. Charles also runs skips so could drop you a couple at site if that was more convenient. Or you could do what the rest do and drive down new years green lane with you tailgate down and tip up as you go.
  12. Any loler guys out there ? I would like an opinion from one of you if your about. Cheers.
  13. I don't lift anything I climb with it. I thought I would have got a lot more response than this, maybe I didn't word it correctly I will try to sum up my thoughts. If a piece of your climbing gear is wrapped in black shrink tube how are you supposed to do your daily, weekly,or six month inspections correctly, My opinion would be that you can't. Cycles to failure and all that jazz hidden from view.
  14. I thought I would start a new thread as I didn't want to interfere with the one about the lad on the telly who had a fall after his wire core flip line failed. I've just gone out to the tool shed and brought mine indoors to have a look at. Sometimes things are not obviouse until you are pointed in the right direction, mine is just like the one in the pic with black shrink wrap over the joined area, how are you supposed to inspect something when it has black shrink wrap all over it. I'm unsure what to do with mine it is nearly new and been used twice,if it cannot be inspected correctly then surely it is not fit for purpose, as we all know it needs to be lolered every six months and if this is not possible, then it can't be fit for purpose. Your thoughts.
  15. Bloody hell !, that is completely ****. Now you think of it the black shrink wrap is so wrong, it needs to be clear so you could inspect it, I wonder why it was rusty isn't the cable galvanised. I remember a few flip lines failing in the states at the same point, I think they changed the way the ferrule was fitted to them. Going out today to check mine and remove any black shrink wrap if mine is made like that.
  16. Can you tell us any more on the failure. Ta.
  17. Yep We have had two jensons one from brand new and the anvil gap is noticeably tapered. Just like you say at the bearing end it is tighter getting bigger away from the centre. How is your chip size with new blades in.
  18. How often would you use one? If this is not your only job go and buy one it will pay for itself in the first month.
  19. Mr git this is the system I used to use on all my teeth if you get it sorted correctly you can get a set of teeth back to new in the time it takes to drink a mug of tea. The most important bit is the correct size of grinding wheel, you have to match the diameter of the wheel to the concave of the tooth, I got mine made in the states and posted over for less money than I could find the correct one anywhere over here. Hope that makes sense. Don't even think of just using a standard 150 mm wheel it will destroy the correct shape of the tooth in seconds.
  20. Any reason you didn't have a stopper knot in the end.
  21. If you have your irata and like tree work have a look at the company's doing veg removal on cliff faces, I did it for a couple of years, amazing scenery, grit to swing about all day without having to use a chainsaw.
  22. It is easy to just chuck it up there and turn it into a bedroom then put one of your kids up there. But what happens in a fire how are they getting out. How are you going to get to them with only one staircase? How's the fire brigade getting up there? Building regs are there for a reason. If you want to do it do it right or it will come back and bite you in the arse. You can get most loft conversions done under permitted development so no planning. Unless you want a dormer window. But you must comply with building regs. The first one I did I thought the regs were crazy like most rules this country makes up until I thoght about how to get out in a fire, and they all made sense then.
  23. Yes you can use the adapters. But don't do it. I had the stein helmet with husky muffs with adapters it puts the muffs further away from the side of your head so when you click them down they don't snug around your ears, was ok with a saw but no good by the chipper, just got the petzl helmet and its 10 times better.
